And They See Flying Saucers, Too

As proof that John Boehner and his staff have gone mentally missing, there’s this evidence crater.

boehnerOnce President Obama announced his invitation to congressional leaders to come to the White House tomorrow to have a discussion about (1) reopening the government, and (2) raising the debt ceiling, there comes this from Brendan Buck, Boehner’s spokesman.

“We’re pleased the president finally recognizes that his refusal to negotiate is indefensible,” Buck said. “It’s unclear why we’d be having this meeting if it’s not meant to be a start to serious talks between the two parties.”

Holy crap.  Holy giant crap.  These people are delusional.  Maybe he’s having the meeting to whip some GOP butts or to make Boehner cry.

I’d rather try to dig a ditch in the ocean than understand why Boehner’s office thinks NOW is the time to get prissy.  The invitation says congressional “leaders.”  In what possible world can John Boehner be considered a leader right now?  I think they’ll probably send Ted Cruz with Boehner’s winkie in his pocket.

The two parties? Does he mean the Republican Party and the Tea Party? They are the only ones with a need to negotiate.

  2. Perhaps the President will invite the 12 or 13 Republicans willing to vote for a clean continuing resolution, and perhaps those he thinks can be persuaded to see that’s the only viable solution. There should be nothing that even hints of negotiations.

Boehner is a coward. Period. He is afraid of not being Speaker and he needs the nutcase teabagger crowd to get enough votes to beat Nancy Pelosi when they decide who will be Speaker. I’m crazy enough to think that, if he wanted to be sane about this, he could make a deal with Nancy to get just enough Democrats to support him in a coalition type arrangement. Of course that would require him to negotiate in good faith which appears to be a problem for all of his ilk.

  4. Boehner is an “I must hurry and catch up with the others, for I am their leader” leader.

Best case for the Repubs is that the Dems will be willing to “negotiate” on some meaningless but face-saving ploy to cover a Repub cave.

  5. I have thought that he is a coward, too. He would rather be known as the worst Speaker of the House in History, than not be Speaker.

I would rather NOT be known as the Great Poopah, than be known as the Worst Not-So-Great Poopah Ever – but that’s just me.

  6. This is just so Boehner!!! As I recall, he was involved in an attempted coup to oust Newtie 17 years ago and when called on the carpet, complained that all he was doing was some basic research! Look what happened to Newtie and tell me if karma is circular.

  7. They really know how to send a gracious RSVP reply. Just the kind of guests you can count on to be the last to leave, wearing one of your lampshades on their head.

I wish Boner would just shut up. What can you expect from a congress that works maybe three days a week. They have done nothing. All they have is the same stale talking points.

Watch out, Mr. Boehner! It’s a trap. Prez Obama and Harry Reid are inviting you to a poker game.

  10. @Rick…. also the kind of “guest” that you would count the silverware…. after they left.

My great-grand daughter….. one of the few girl children in the family….. is a Type I diabetic. Up until yesterday….. “uninsureable”. Thank you to President Obama, and the Affordable Care Act….. that is no longer the case.

To the people who continue to elect this idiot, John Boehner, to Congress….. Shame on you all.

  11. Rick, exactly the kind of “guest” who would leave with everything of value tht they could stuff in their pockets and slug you if you tried to search them.

Regardless of the argument, political protocol would demand Buck be fired.

  13. Wonder if they have forgotten their 18 refusals to negotiate on the budget in the last 6 months!

  14. In my own Personal Script, The Rethug leaders would all arrive, take their seats, all pompous like, and then President O would enter screen right, they would all stand, he would stand in front of them and as the secret service agents start to move behind them, the Pres Looks them in the eye and starts Mirandizing (is that a word?) Charging them with Terrorist acts against the USA, as they are all handcuffed… umm, I could sleep on that one!
