And the Winner Is —

September 27, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, on our bet about the point spread in Alabama.  Here’s my math.

That means a point spread of 9.2 according to my jeweled solar powered pocket calculator.

We have a winner.

Close but no cigar honors: Marc Davis and Rebecca at 9.3, and John Jasynes at 9.1

But Annabell Lee hit it right on the nose at 9.2

Congratulations Annabell.  Your book will be right on the way as soon as I get your address.

Thank you all for playing and we should do this more often.

  1. It was fun! Yes, please let’s do it again!

    1
  2. Only 1/2 million votes in a high profile primary for U.S. Senate.

    2
  3. Alabama is very, very sick.

Trump’s right wing nutbag candidate wasn’t extreme enough for them.

OK, if you guys like to bet then here is next bet: How long and on what issue will Moore violate his oath of office?

    3
  4. Alan, some of us are not ready to “envision” a Sinator Roy Moore. That goes down like our daily dose of pResident Dumbass. We’re young and healthy, yet our dentist recommended we see a GI specialist about the amount of acid reflux attacking our teeth. Apparently that “throwing up in our mouths a little bit” has long term dental consequences.

Is there any chance Democrats can drag Doug Jones across the finish line in a racist red state? We’re begging. Just when we thought no one could be worse than Jefferson Beauregard Sessions, Alabama is ready to nuke the Senate with Roy Moore.

Secede? Hell. Can we sane states just toss the racist mofos from the Union?

    4
  5. @Jane – I like the way you think! Instead of secession movement, let’s start an ejection movement!

Perhaps that might confuse a few addled men who think with their southern brains.

    5
  6. I advocate for an ostracization movement. It goes back to the first known large democracy, classical Athens. If the citizens felt that someone was an obnoxious jerk, dangerous to the community, or getting too big for his himation, they would scratch his name on a potsherd (ostrakon) and toss it into the voting pile. Whoever got the most votes was ostracized– expelled from the city for ten years. By that time they’d either have wised up or would have to work their way back to the top of the heap, and in any case you’d be rid of the bugger for ten years.

Though there are several names higher on my ostrakon list, Jeff Sessions gets a placement. Special Snowflake just gave a talk at Georgetown deploring universities that have “safe spaces” for students who don’t want to see or hear anything upsetting. Special Snowflake had some students and professors disinvited to his talk, and took only polite questions submitted in advance. And anyone who wanted to protest SS’s talk about “free speech” was relegated to protest zones away from the action.

I just want to pat him on his pointy little head and send him out to play on the Beltway.

  7. Annabelle Lee says:

I… i just want to thank all the little people who made this moment possible.

Honestly I thought my estimate was low. When I checked last night Moore was up by 12-ish points. So maybe that’s… progress?

Anyway, Moore is a nut and he will not thrive in DC.

    7
  8. Congratulations Annabelle. Who you like in the Super Bowl?

    8
  9. Annabelle Lee says:

Falcons and Chiefs, Falcons take it by 10.

    9
  10. Forget the super bowl. The Really Big Championship is happening right now! Minnesota Lynx v. LA Sparks for the WNBA crown. The best of 5 series is tied at 1 each, both games won by 2 in last second thrillers. Annabelle Lee, who’s your pick? (Remember, I’m from MN!) The games are on ESPN2.

BTW, Lynx were the first pro team to wear Black Lives Matter t-shirts in pregame warm ups.

  11. Ted in Austin says:

Are there really any winners here? Moore almost makes Sessions palatable. And unfortunately all of Swamp Scum of this maladministration seem to be thriving much better than I ever thought possible. Violations of their Oath of Office seem to be non-starters with their base and Oligarch Overlords. I was actually rooting for the 9/23 End of the World! The only potential bright spot I can imagine is these Bozos may actually succeed in the full-blown rupture of the rethuglican party and usher in a long over-due era of democratic (yes, small d) rule of our formerly great country. Let us Pray.

    11
  12. Congrats, Annabell Lee! Well done!

    12
  13. Rhea – what a fascinating history of the word “ostracize”!

And Ted – wouldn’t it be great if there had been a typo, and the long-anticipated Rapture was really the Rupture? That would make ME sing Hallelujah!

(Point of grammar query: should it be “Rapture was”, or “Rapture were”? I can’t tell if it’s still subjunctive with this sentence structure. Trying to hold the line on proper usage, but it’s almost never used correctly any more, even by the more literate media outlets.)

    13
  14. Well, the RWNJs that voted for Moore did it as a sharp stick in the eye to Trump who they are liking less and less. Too bad that can’t understand that they also blinded themselves as well.
