And The Hits Just Keep On Coming

April 05, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

In Connecticut, the official NRA firearms instructor couldn’t make it to the Gun Rights Rally at the State Capitol because … he shot himself in the foot.  Literally.

And then in Philadelphia, an off-duty New Jersey police officer accidentally shot a building.  Yep, a whole damn building.

According to police, an off-duty officer, from New Jersey, went back to his car to secure his gun after being denied access to a building.

Police say the off-duty officer’s gun accidentally discharged once, going through the window of his car and the window of Triumph Brewing Company.

No injuries have reported.

Triumph Brewing Company was closed due to the investigation.

I think the name of the building explains a lot. Or at least a little.

Thanks to Carl for the heads up.

  1. Perhaps these guys should invest in corrective eye wear.

If the brewing company had hired armed guards, they could have opened fire on the assailant. Wouldn’t that have been swell!

Only good guys with guns can stop good guys with guns. Oh wait! I think I got that wrong……

And the NRA wants all the school teachers armed.
Lesson #1: If anything can go wrong, it will,

Lesson #2: When, not if, it goes wrong, children will be the collateral damage. How do you bring that up in a parent-teacher conference?

Lesson #3: Even people trained and experienced with guns
are often the problem, not the solution.

I had some wonderful teachers in my school years, but I do think if my 5th grade teacher (an exception to “wonderful”) had carried a gun she would have shot me.

  6. This brings up something I’ve long wondered about. The macho studs who insist they need a 30-round clip to defend themselves against attackers never explain if they will take responsibility for the dozens of rounds that miss the bad guys.

Not all bullets that miss bad guys hit buildings. Bullets fired up in the air on New Year’s Eve have been known to come down and kill people.

  7. Another good guy with a gun has been shot by a bad guy who took the good guy’s gun, killed the good guy and then himself. http://news.yahoo.com/investigators-miss-suspect-used-detectives-gun-174217576.html

This good guys with guns stopping bad guys (even one without a gun) is not working. Explain that LaPierre!

  8. Cindy D. says:

While listening to NPR, I heard a woman phone in to Talk of the Nation* to say she had been fired and her teaching license taken away because she slapped a football player who wouldn’t quit arguing with her in class. Maybe it was wrong for her to slap him (I’m willing to cut her some slack) but imagine the frustration that lead her to that point. I’m glad she didn’t have a gun that day.

*The conversation was about the football coach abusing the players at Rutgers.

Here’s hoping for more complete reporting of incidents of this kind. I would like the participants membership in the NRA to be included in the reports. The Darwin Awards are getting fierce competitive.

  11. There are no “mishaps” and “accidents” when it comes to guns. There’s carelessness, uncontrolled emotion, stupidity, and poor impulse control.

I wish to heck the newspapers and TV commentators would get that through their heads, and quit calling someone shooting himself in the foot a “mishap.” It’s not a mishap; a mishap is dropping the plate of deviled eggs you were taking to a potluck while trying to get the back door door open. It’s a spot of gravy on a gravy-colored skirt you were going to change out of anyway.
