And The Grand Total Is ….

July 11, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The final bill to remodel the Texas Governor’s Mansion, called The Gov Shack, is in.  It’s a mere $25 million.  It was originally supposed to cost $10 million but, you know, it’s for Rick.

The improved Governor’s Mansion will include inch-thick longleaf pine floors, an added wing and a geothermal heating and cooling system that required digging 40 350-foot (107 meter) wells, according to Bloomberg. The cost of the mansion renovations would have paid for 11 million school lunches.

Now, when Jacqueline Kennedy remodeled the White House, she got private donations to do it.  You’d think with all Rick’s rich friends ….. oh yeah, they hold on to a nickle until Thomas Jefferson screams “Uncle!”  They are all so tight that when the smile, their toes curl.

Thanks to Stephen for the heads-up.

  1. Geothermal heating and cooling?

    HUH?

This is Texas, damnit, and in Texas we burn oil. Lots of it. Because we all know that oil is an inexhaustible resource and global warmin’ is a hoax. So what the h-e-double-l is Gov. GoodHair doin’ putting in some commie, socialist, “environmental” air condition?

    Drill, baby, drill.

We gotta rip that thing out and put in a proper system.

  2. I’m having trouble with “geothermal cooling,” and I’m thinking global warming is taking care of the heating, but I’m sure Gov Goodhair had plenty of friends willing to drill a bunch of holes for just a few dollars more…

  3. Yeah, I’m gastiflabbered that Texas, of all places, is using an environmentally rational heating and cooling system for the Gov’s house. Did somebody get slapped upside the head until they made sense for once?

DJ, it’s geothermal cooling and heating because the underground stays at a more constant temperature than the surface– warmer in winter and cooler in summer. I think you still need another energy source but not as much– I could be wrong on that.

I have no problem with the remodel, or with the geothermal system. Let’s vote Perry out though, so some nice deserving person and their nice spouse can live there. NOT Rick and NOT Anita! Please?

I do have a problem with spending 25 million when we are firing teachers and taking lunches away from hungry kids and NOT following the law (ACA, exchanges) and NOT expanding Medicaid on the Feds’ nickel.

I move my previous statement: can we get a LEADER in that house? PLEASE?

At least here in Arizona, there is an end to our suffering with inept State officials. They can only serve two terms before they have to get a real job.In two more years we can pull the plug on the train wreck that is Jan Brewer. May Texas enjoy similar success in removing Icky Ricky from office.

  6. JJ….. this is from the Wikipedia people…. and this is what scares me most about Ricky.

“Perry is the longest serving governor in Texas state history. As a result, he is the only governor in modern Texas history to have appointed at least one person to every eligible state office, board, or commission position (as well as to several elected offices to which the governor can appoint someone to fill an unexpired term, such as six of the nine current members of the Texas Supreme Court).”

    Way too many cronies…… everywhere.

  7. I just hope the ghost are still there. Remodeling often riles them up.

Seven words for you: Term limits Term limits term limits. Thanks.

  9. @Miemaw, you’re exactly right. That’s one way Perry gets all his power. The boards and commissions are now all filled with his like-minded cronies. If any appointee goes astray, they’re removed ASAP.

@Meimaw I suppose he learned that from the Bush/Cheney/Rove School of Governing? Seems to be catching in other states too.

  11. Careful what you wish for, Star. If the ghosts are too riled up, the Perrys might get skeered and want to be in rental property again.

An extra wing? For him & Anita? Just who is staying in those rooms? It was big enough before. Gee, does this mean Rick will pay my mortgage since I paid for his renovations?
