And Speaking of Large Organs, Alabama Checks In
Alabama State Representative Mary Sue McClurkin has introduced a bill to make a felony for a nurse or a doctor to perform an abortion. She’s studied up on this stuff and announced …
“When a physician removes a child from a woman, that is the largest organ in a body,” the lawmaker declared. “That’s a big thing. That’s a big surgery. You don’t have any other organs in your body that are bigger than that.”
I guess she’s never seen the lungs on Dolly Parton, huh?
Back to studying, Mary Sue, because there will be a test on this.
Thanks to Brian for the heads up.
Let me guess… she had failing grades in biology, anatomy and logic.
1I still don’t get the logic, even if it were true. People had had the majority of their stomach removed, when necessary. The stomach is a pretty big organ. Was that a crime, then?
2I am pretty sure Mary Sue is already missing two of her organs – her heart and her brain. Which doctor was responsible for that?
3I think she’s got a large organ of her own – her head – stuffed back into her body in a position which must be extremely hard on her neck,
4So a fetus is an organ? Then why does that organ need rights? I have the right to take out my appendix is that not allowed either? What about donating a kidney?
How about this. Don’t call it an abortion – let’s call it an organ donation and any right to life woman who feels that strongly about abortion should be willing to become incubators and PROVIDERS for that organ.
5This displays just how stupid they (think we?) are, Sharon. Although not an organ, a fetus is not a person, either, and switching between the two makes obvious the hypocrisy of their position and causes one to think that maybe there’s a hidden agenda.
6I am not of the medical profession but, did stay at a Holiday Inn once. Is it not the skin that is the largest organ?
7Pointing out the errors in this woman’s thinking is to reduce one to her level. It truly is remarkable those things which pass for intelligence in today’s world.
Actually my tonsils were quite large when they were removed when I was 21. If a fetus is an organ, it is an unnecessary one, and if it causes any discomfort or concern to the female with such organ, she should be able to have it removed.
Who wants to bet Mary Sue has had an abortion?
8As Basil Fawlty said to his wife Sybil on “Fawlty Towers”—
“I’m fed up with you, you rancorous, coiffured old sow. Why don’t you syringe the donuts out of your ear and get some sense into the dormant organ you keep hidden in that rat’s maze of yours?”
9gabberflasted, you are correct. The skin is the largest organ of the human body. The uterus, unoccupied, is pear-sized, I believe, which makes it smaller than kidneys, liver, lungs (even an average person’s, let alone a singer’s), intestines…
10Sigh. Aw shucks, she simply believes that rain makes applesauce. Thats just about her top speed.
11There would also be the circulatory system which may be miles long by the time you get down to capillaries!
I think people with uteri should manage their own, only, no one else’s. I realize that discriminates against those unlucky enough to be born without one, but I advise them to go away and play with their own toys!
12Well you have to give her this, a one-minute embryo is way bigger than her brain.
13This is the result of having a state that is number 1 in football and down near the bottom in education.
14Last I checked, removing organs from the body is LEGAL. Hence, I think this brainless legislation is brilliant. There’s no ban on heart/lung and kidney transplants, so why not ignore 1st grade biology and call a fetus an organ? That’ll keep abortion legal.
15What does that do for organ transplant hopefuls?
