And How Does A Political Junkie Spend Saturday?
Well, there’s about 200 of us in Austin training to win elections a year from now.
There’s standing room only for a two day all day campaign training for candidates and campaign managers. The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc. has five people here learning to be experts, so if we say it’s Christmas, you better go buy some little twinkling lights because we’re damn experts and have a certificate to prove it.
What we are learning is that we better get used to living in a blue state and we should thank Ted Cruz in large part for that but Louie Gohmert, Rick Perry, Steve Stockman, Randy Nuegebauer, Joe Barton, and a whole mess of other old white guys for turning Texas blue.
Where is this training? Aargh. Oh well. I have to register voters this afternoon. Will you help point us in directions for training? I probably have friends at that event.
1“What we are learning is that we better get used to living in a blue state and we should thank Ted Cruz in large part for that but Louie Gohmert, Rick Perry, Steve Stockman, Randy Nuegebauer, Joe Barton, and a whole mess of other old white guys for turning Texas blue.”
We get by with a little help from our friends.
2I hope you’re right. I’m sure that Gohmert’s (for example) constituents laugh at him but I’m sure they also say “but he’s such a sweetie.” or something to that effect. He represents his district. Period. Actually I think I like him better than Neugebauer, who may or may not represent his district. I think I’m going to focus on getting folks elected who care that Texas has WATER. We can’t do without it, even the ones of us without yachts. Blech.
3I saw Wendy in Waxahachie this morning. I truly believe she’s going to be our next Gov. The woman is just on fire!!!
4Pass on the worthwhile advice, so we can all help.
Here’s something scary:

Thanks for the link, Cheryl. It is frightening to think that Cruz might have that kind of destructive influence on our country in the future, but as it now stands, he’s marshalled the crazies already and caused untold damage.
6The one consolation is that he seems to be
despised by the rank and file Repugs.
Hi Marge, I think the people in Looney Louie’s district say, “Bless his heart! But at least he’s not black(sic)!”
7aggieland liz: Thank you so much! I just spit my diet coke. I’ll be smiling all day!
8I’m still trying to figure out how Ted Cruz’s wife, VP @ Goldman, is squaring with this act he is putting on. What’s in it for her? Him? Them? Him knowing when uncle will be said will help her shorting, but there has to be more to it.

10She’s laughing all the way to the bank–anyone who can afford $40,000 a year health premiums has got to be making such big bank that mere mortals can’t even believe it!
Juanita, I surely do wish you’d feature links to fundraising sites for the TX Democratic causes in which you’re involved, so those of us outside Texas had some way to support your efforts.
Please.
11Teehee Crone,
12I think she’s Thinking really big Tiara’s and her name up there with the greats, like Eva Braun and Lucretia Borgia….
Litihorn, that must be it.
Can you imagine putting with that sociopath? There’s not enough money in the world.
13Campaign training sounds so interesting! I’ve only worked as a volunteer. I never got any kind of real training. This Texas Gov race is very exciting to us folks in “foreign states”. Thanks for keeping us posted on the grassroots efforts. Tons of people like you working in the trenches — That’s what it will take for Wendy to make it all the way through. Go, Wendy!
14J.J. Have you read The Political Brain by Drew Westen, and if so, what was your impression? An impressive list of Democrats, including Bill Clinton, have recommended it as a primer on how to win elections.
