  2. Oddly enough several universities have “Free Speech Area”s. For example at UNT in Denton, you will find it at 1155 Union Circle Denton, Texas 76201 on the unt.edu website. Go figure huh!

  3. I guess I could have composed some of that better. The unt.edu website helps you find UNT’s Free Speech Area, which is located at 1155 Union Circle, Denton, Texas 76201. I do hope senility turns out to be my friend as I get older.

  4. Marion (formerly known as MM) says:

Excellent amendment to the amendment sign.

  5. Is it equivalent to the old public squares where one could speak on any issue, but if one did it on the sidewalk, possibly obstructing traffic, one could get arrested?

I call to example the “Silent Sentinels,” the suffragettes who held banners in front of the White House demanding the right to vote. In July 1917 they were arrested, and many convicted, on charges of “obstructing traffic.” A really powerful movie on this is “Iron Jawed Angels.”

Anyone who wants to think women are the weaker sex should read a biography on Alice Paul. She fought for women’s rights for over 6 decades. God bless her.

  6. Marge Wood says:

    Wonderful, all.

    6
  7. Where’s the 2nd Amendment Area? Everywhere else?

    7
  8. W. C. Peterson says:

Every area with nobody in it is a free speech “First Amendment Area”. Speech is free. Listening will cost you extra.

  9. e platypus onion says:

Amazing in that you can tune out someone’s speech, but you can’t escape their guns.

    9
  10. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Privilege anyone? The final court deciders, aka the Roberts Robbers, are protected by a distance from even hearing a murmur from any group protesting, while women seeking health services are subjected to physical assault, mental stress and any number of indignities, while their health care providers are intimidated up to and including assassination.

Guys, if the gals will accept the assistance, I think we need to combine our reproductive health facilities with those of the ladies. I challenge any ammosexual or cray-cray person with a sign to challenge someone inbound for a finger wave.

  11. According to the Supreme Court money is our main First Amendment Area.

    11
  12. UmptyDump says:

Interesting concept – amendment areas. I wonder if Michael Brown was outside the 14th Amendment Area when he got shot in Ferguson, Missouri.

    12
  13. Maggie: My guess is this is in Ferguson, MO. It’s for the journalists. They are supposed to stay within the “fenced” area and risk getting arrested if they don’t. I don’t think they are abiding by this “rule.”

    13
  14. Marcia in CO says:

Do you suppose this might be in the general vicinity of Area 51? Evidently Area 51 isn’t suppose to exist but we all know it does!!

    14
  15. Last time i checked…. that whole Bill of Rights thing says all areas are First Amendment Areas but then what do i know, im just a girl and a liberal to boot
