A Simple Logic Test
OK, so here where the Republicans stand:
- All books about diversity should be banned from school libraries to protect kids from being exposed to anything not bible thumping, white, and straight.
- Teachers don’t have the judgement to set their own curriculum.
- In more and more states teachers aren’t allowed to say the word “gay” or even address the fact that millions of children live in “non-traditional” families.
- Teachers are not allowed to teach actual history including slavery, subjugation of women, immigrants, or those who are not white.
- Textbooks that discuss actually history are banned because they might upset kids.
Now these same Republicans are calling to arm teachers with firearms to protect children against shooters who are, BY STATUTE, allowed to buy and own weapons of war and unlimited amounts of high powered ammo online.
So, to be clear – Teachers cannot be trusted to teach their students on subjects of history, social studies, and civics, but those same teachers must be depended on to carry firearms that can repel attacks by crazed gunmen carrying high powered weapons of war and wearing body armor.
Is it me, or have Republicans and their base lost their fucking minds?

8Corporate power. Take away the designation of corporations as “people”, limit their ability to buy elections, and allow common sense to have its say.
9It’s been coming to where the current level of lunacy is for years. Some of us saw it coming way back, some people have been taken by surprise. And it’s going to get worse.
10Leslie Fish @9 is apparently unfamiliar with the moves in Texas, Florida, and other states to make sure that students don’t have their feelings hurt by hearing that at some points in history, white people weren’t nice. Or that laws passed and structures set up to oppress Blacks continue to have negative consequences.

The 2nd amendment say …right to bare arms!! OK!!! Outlaw guns and make swords legal! It takes a lot of practice to use a sword. Also try to out run someone carrying a big sword, now try to outrun 9 shots from a 9mm!!! I know my choice! In Texastan it is illegal to carry a sword but legal to caring two 9mm! Talk about st00pid!!!
16Perhaps if 20 Republican senators were locked in a room with an 18 year old with a loaded assault weapon, and half of them were gunned down, the other half might change their minds about passing common sense gun laws.
17There is another aspect to the issue of raising and educating children. I was a Director of a large child care facility in an underserved area, infant through pre-K. We saw children come in with fetal-alcohol and drug withdrawal, for instance. Or other forms of neglect. Generally those parents didn’t want to hear that their children were anything but perfect. The social and emotional needs of these children could not be addressed by CPS, because there were not enough staff (funding).
18There were many resistant responses from parents, including a direct threat to me, when I suggested their grandchild get help with reading. The only suggestion, or referral I could make for outside help was reading. I was not allowed to use any vocabulary considered “diagnosis”. (I understand the potential for misuse behind this rule.)
If we got the child into the reading program the emotional distress would appear and the child might get help they needed. This is the convoluted system early child care functions within.
Without getting support for this child, he hung himself when he was 11-years old. All systems failed this sweet, caring, sensitive boy. This was avoidable.
Without “preaching” I suggest parents have individual time with each child, every day. 15 minutes a day makes an impact toward showing your child that you care about them. And more time if you can.
They don’t really want more toys, they want time with you.
The odds are stacked against us.
