  1. A fine man who lead an exemplary, moral Christian life who was NOT a Christian Nationalist

He understood the inherent evil of an oil economy and tried to get us off of it.

    1
  2. Jimmy Carter was a wonderful human being. The world is diminished by his leaving us.

    2
  3. RIP, Jimmy.
One of the most decent men ever. And one of our best Presidents, certainly the most honest and straightforward of them.
I’m glad to have enthusiasticly voted twice for James Earl Carter.

Only to have the 1980 election be stolen from him. By the vilest of Rethuglikkkan and Reagan’s treasonous actions, in making a secret deal with the Iranians over the American hostages that they were holding.

I don’t know if the Logan Act was in effect then, but there have been many serious violations of it, all by the Rethugs.
Most recently multiple violations of by tRump, which should have his sorry ass behind bars, instead of defiling our White House again.

These ideals Jimmy Carter lived by are completely foreign to trumpf. You could name the exact opposite of each and you’d be describing trumpf. I read today that he tried to come out with a tribute (and maga is pissed) just weeks after calling him the worst president ever on his 100th birthday. Trumpf is a stain on our history.

  5. The Surly Professor says:

Again, I’m not clever enough to spot these things, but have students who are:

    1. Carter lived long enough to vote against Trump, then did not have to watch Blob Bottom get swarn in.

    2. The usual 30 day period for ex-Presidents means the flags will be at half-staff at the inauguration. Which will irk the Bloated One to no end.

Another point: Even those who claimed Carter was a big failure as President, agree that he has been the greatest ex-President we’ve ever had. Of course, the competition has not been stiff. Reagan took a cool $1M to give a talk in Japan, Bush 1 urped all over the Japanese prime minister at a dinner, Bush 2 makes paintings of his feet in the bathtub, Clinton gets frequent flyer status on Epstein’s Lolita Express. But just as a human being, ignoring him being an ex-President, Carter is one of the Great Ones.

Thank you, Jimmy Carter, for promoting–and living–all the decencies that cartoon above displays. The world is a better place because you and Rosalynn lived in it.

  7. From what I have read, drumpf’s tribute to Carter was all about drumpf. No surprise there. Fake Noize blew a gasket when Biden said drumpf could learn decency from Carter’s examples.

  8. Charles Dimmick says:

As good a candidate for sainthood as any.
May his soul dwell in Heaven with all the saints.

At one point I was his local Campaign chairman for my Town, a service I was proud to do.

  9. Steve from Beaverton says:

And greg abutthead offered his condolences to Rosalynn Carter after Jimmy Carter’s death. What a guy.

  10. Thanks for sharing this; I love it.

I would like to make a suggestion here that is somewhat related to Jimmy Carter because of the time constraint that I had submitted about a week ago thru Tell Juanita in order to not put trump on notice. Have not heard anything back. So here it is; Biden resigns 2-3 days before Jan 20 and Kamala gets sworn in as prez so she can take Biden’s place during the oath giving to trump.

  12. The Surly Professor says:

van heldorf@9: that has been floating around for some time, originally the idea was just to have a black woman president, if only for a few weeks. Also to screw with all the “47” branding that the MAGAt trinkets have been stamped with.

It won’t happen, though. Biden is still too old school to do the stunt (sadly). Personally I like the idea of Harris suggesting that she’ll do what Pence did not: refuse to do certify the election results. Not actually do it; just to get the Fat One riled up, and see how he can claim it was OK to do in 2021 but not in 2025.

  13. Harry Eagar says:

Until he got snookered into the Iran raid, Carter was going to be the first and only president to serve a term without getting anybody killed.

    You know who’s No. 2?

    Biden.

  14. 1952.
    28 years old.
He climbed into a nuclear reactor undergoing a partial meltdown, one of the few people qualified to perform the task in those early days of nuclear power. His exposure to radiation was 1000 times what would be allowed now.

He still lived to 100 years old. He continued helping other people when he could all of his life.

  15. van heldorf says:

Surly Prof @12: Thanks for your input. I likely have seen something similar before but I am old and all that goes with that. If Biden goes old school at this critical time as you suggest and assuming he is not senile, he will likely be remembered for a long time as being needlessly inflexible regardless of the good things he did. This is also assuming that the magas don’t do everything to erase anything about him. I also believe that the good guys will win in the end such as 51-49 whenever that time is.

  16. van heldorf says:

I spent a number of years as a regular crew member of Habitat for Humanity in the north Houston area during the ’90s. I don’t forget the underhandedness of the reagan machine in what they did to Carter and the hostages. With the death of Carter and the positive outpouring of good things about his life, tfg knows he won’t get that kind of respect when he checks out. IMO, he and his magas will do whatever it takes to erase this history.

Totally off-topic, and I’m sure all the Texas-based clients of the Salon already know about this, but:

    https://www.attorneygeneralpaxton.com/

It’s been set up by one of the South Park writers … and probably does not have the approval of Paxton himself. To say the least. He’s set up several others, including https://www.governorgregabbott.com/ and just recently, a farewell letter from the governor of Mississippi https://www.governorparson.com/

Just some fun reading while waiting for the new year to kick off.

    17
  18. drumpf and Fake Noize immediately tried to pin New Orleans terrorist attack on Biden’s border policies, claiming perp recently crossed border. Perp is a lifelong resident of Beaumont Texas and served in US military. drumpf is a liar and a divider and Fake Noize needs to be sued again.

    18
  19. Steve from Beaverton says:

Mike, you’re right. Our problem is his magats only hear what he says, not the truth, and the fake noize will not correct the story line.

    19
  20. 15 known dead in terrorist attack. A new year and nothing has changed. Israel is still killing Palestinian women and children with US weapons in Gaza.
