Watch Out Nolan, Here Comes Abigail
Alvin, Texas has a world-famous native son in ace pitcher Nolan Ryan (#34). I know this because every time I traveled down Highway 6 to (and through) Alvin I was reminded of this fact with a roadside sign that announced the fact that he, indeed, was raised there.
Not born there, mind you, but was a resident since he was 6 weeks old. Ryan led his Alvin High School baseball team to the Texas State finals in 1965.
No one outside of Texas knows much about Alvin, but those that do, know about Nolan Ryan’s ties to that community. Positive stuff, obviously.
But now Alvin has another celebrity for it to claim…or not, depending on your politics.
Abigail Jo Shry, 43, of Alvin, Texas made national news this week when she threatened the life of Judge Tanya Chutkan who is hearing the January 6 case in DC against TFG. Oh, and she also wants to show Congressman Sheila Jackson Lee to the afterlife, along with any and all Democrats in Washington, D.C., as well as any member of the LGBTQIA+ community.
A ponderous list.
Representatives of the Department of Homeland Security asked her about her threats in a recent “knock and talk” in which she admitted to having no plans to travel to DC, but did admit that should Congressman Jackson Lee make a trip to Alvin, then “we need to worry”.
Indeed.
Like Judge Chutkan, Rep. Jackson Lee is African-American but that seems to be the extent of their commonality. However, Rep. Jackson Lee does not represent Alvin, so for that reason, would (thankfully) have little reason to stop by.
I never did, either, for that matter.
But fame is fleeting and I suspect that Nolan Ryan will once again have sole claim as the Number 1 (or #34) favorite son of Alvin once more. Or so we can hope.
Dang! She forget where she left her medication again!
1Abigail is the tip of the iceberg of threats against those involved in prosecuting trumpf and associates. From congresscritters like matt gaetz to the ex prez 45, kind of like the Jan 6 insurrection. I’m afraid legitimately that someone will be killed because of what trumpf and followers are saying and doing.
2Abigail fell out of the stupid tree and smacked every branch on the way down. Calling in threats from your home phone.
3Half Empty, I appreciate and enjoy your articles. But as an old Texan, I gotta pass on: while cattle and chickens are raised, people get reared. My grandfather usually reinforced the distinction with a dope slap to the back of the head of any kid who got it wrong.
And as my grandmother always reminded us: humans do not sweat. Horses sweat, men perspire, and women glow. Right now Abigail should be glowing up a storm.
4You should have also said the Judge and SJL are well educated – U Penn for Chutkan and Harvard for SJL. That automatically makes them uppity Black women – three strikes out for some folk!
5When I was commuting to work in Galveston from Misery City back in 1982-1985, I’d drive through “the A towns” (Alvin, Algoa, Alta Loma). That was when Highway 6 was just 2 lanes. I also was driving my unairconditioned VW Rabbit for about 5 months of that time, having just relocated from RI where such things were unnecessary. So on my way home, I’d stop at the 7-11 before I got to Alvin (a dry town) and get me a nice cold Miller Light for the ride home. It was legal back then to have an open container. Shocking, I know, but boy that beer made the rest of my drive tolerable! I did finally replace my car with a diesel VW Rabbit, with AC. But I will confess, I still sometimes stopped at 7-11 on really hot days. Ah memories.
6I’m curious if any one, I’m pretty sure there is, has taken the time to compile a list of the dum dums that have done something in the name of the orange one and gone to jail, been arrested, or reprimanded in some way shape or form whilst he stomps around on democracy. (Takes a breath) Short list that I can think of off the top of my head…….everyone that participated in Jan. 6th, Michael Cohen….about to Walt….should have Roger, and his CEO or was it CFO. I’d stay at least a ten foot pole away from him but I would anyways.
7I do volunteer work at a state park about 30 miles west of Alvin, and I drive through Alvin most days that I go to work there. The bypass around Alvin is butt-ugly, and it seems to me that the town has more than its normal share of people like this woman.
There is a dealer of ‘power sports’ vehicles, i.e., ATVs, UTVs, and the like on the east side of Alvin. They have a big sign on their fence that says ‘Free Bible. Free American Flag. $500 Gift Certificate for Purchase of a Firearm.” I’m always glad to have Alvin in my rearview mirror.
Alvin does have one thing to redeem itself, though. Joe’s Bar-B-Q.
8I worked in Alvin periodically in the 80s-00s, commuting from my temporary corporate apartments in Houston or Galveston beach houses.
It was a quite small town, dry [but the beverage stores nearby did great business], and with churches on almost every block.
Nice place to work, walked across the town square for coffee breaks; nice, friendly people.
A place much like the other then small towns around Houston [but maybe more religious and conservative], like Lake Jackson, Clute, Angleton, Rosenberg, Richmond, Freeport, Brazoria [worked in all and many more in S & E TX]]; all much larger today.
Now everywhere is just eat up with RW whackjobs and itchy trigger fingers, inflamed to insanity by traitors like Mr. Mango Manboobs and Greg Abbutt.
9Fenway Fran @6, I’d sometimes commute down the old two lane Highway 6 to Alvin, if coming up US 59 from home in the Valley; sometimes took Highway 35 along the coast.
10Only drove through Mo City, but worked at adjacent Blue Ridge and Sugarland off and on.
