Reminder: It’s Not A Gun Problem
An order from the Texas Education Agency has helped solve school shootings …
The Texas Education Agency issued new safety guidance on Thursday afternoon, just weeks after the deadly school shooting in Uvalde that killed 19 children and two adults.
Officials need to ensure that each exterior door at schools closes and locks, according to the guidance. Districts must also convene their safety and security committees in reviewing plans.
Earlier this month, Gov. Greg Abbott directed the agency to enforce weekly door inspections to ensure their security.
It’s not a gun problem; it’s a door problem. And, of course, shooters only use doors once a week. And fire fighters have magical powers to open locked doors in case of an emergency. And, of course, committee meetings are the ultimate tool against assault rifles.
And I suspect the situation in Highland Park is a roof problem. We just need to get rid of roofs. Problem solved.
How does one lock down the doors on a parade?

Maybe, I don’t know but… could it be too many guns causing the problem? It sounds silly, I know, but just a thought. Folks could keep their massive one occupant pickups with the dangly testicles when they need to feel all masculiny or sexy for the women. VRoom Vroom instead of bang bang thirty or fifty times.
Can we make schools safer independent of addressing the obvious gun problem? Sure. There are things we can do. Our campus utilizes key card technology. The doors automatically lock, but each of our employee ID cards open each door. They are even automated so that a message is sent to the district alerting them that a door has been opened. So, if one of us has a sudden urge to go to campus at midnight (or if one of our ID cards has been stolen) then they will know someone is there.
This is all fantastic, but if someone brings an AR-15 with over 100 rounds to our campus they are getting in. They will kill numerous people whether all the doors are locked or not. That’s kind of the whole point isn’t it. We can set up committees. We can develop numerous plans. We can have an armed guard on each campus. We can do all of these things. It still doesn’t matter. Someone with an AR-15 is going to win that particular game every time.
2This solution is like most everything abbutt does about problems, basically nothing, like the power grid. There’s a reason these chicken shit punks use AR-15/assault rifles, they can’t be stopped before the killing and maiming. Doors, windows and people are no defense. Same as in war- blow holes in everything fast. What’s next, making teachers go full MTG (or Boobert or Jr trumpf)- strap assault rifles over their shoulders?
3Only people happy are the second amendment gun nuts, manufacturers and dealers and the NRA.
Teachers need tanks. That’s how you stop a punk with an assault rifle. And when they get tanks, we call in air strikes. Really, I don’t see the problem. If the Highland Park parade had arranged for Apache helicopters, they could have taken him out as soon as he opened fire. We just have to accommodate society to the concerns of Second Amendment adherents and their Supreme Court.

2) shows up next day while kids are being let in and kills! I could think of at least 2 more simple work arounds. Outlawing assault rifles DOES NOT violate the 2nd Amend.
If this was a foreign national setting off a bomb, you know we’d be in a war already, yet nuts with military grade weapons?Just shut the door!
6I expect the actual Republican thought process on how to solve our mass murder problem will evolve soon to the best outcome, which would be to restrict reporting. If fifty school children are slaughtered in say Nebraska and it isn’t put into the news, then by definition there is no problem.

I read this article about the father of the Highland Park mass murderer. One quote that struck me probably tells you a lot about the son. The dad “liked” a tweet that read: “Protect the Second Amendment like your life depends on it.”. This just days after the Uvalde mass shooting.

Ya, make sure your son with a troubling history on social media could “legally” buy an AR-15 and murder 7 (so far) and maim more than 2 dozen others. This is classic for the guns kill Besides the killer son, this dad needs accountability.

What it is is a LADDER problem, allowing access to roofs. we need to ban fixed exterior ladders AND prohibit concealed carry of anything taller than a 5″ ladder.
And given the earlier instance of the shooter from the Las Vegas hotel into the crowd at a concert — we need to ban people from carrying in their own luggage (it could be weapons) and checking into rooms that overlook areas that have people forming crowds.
10Yup, lock fire escape doors and eliminate fire escapes. That solves the assault rifle problem. What were rational people thinking anyway. It’s so simple.
11The real problem is the so-called “victims” that get themselves in the way of the bullets. If we could properly regulate these people so that they can’t throw themselves at 2,000 feet per second (or more) at the bullets, or head butt police batons, there wouldn’t any victims!

Steve from Beaverton @8, I saw/heard on a news segment early in the reporting of this incident a reference to the killer’s dad, it was before any name was mentioned.
13It was stated that the killer’s dad had previously run for mayor of Highland Park and was defeated by the current mayor.
Immediately I was very curious about the dad’s political lean.
Now, after seeing the current woman mayor interviewed a couple of times, she’s clearly a Democrat; so it’s almost dead certain that daddy C. is another rabid loser Republican.
When doors are outlawed, only outlaws will have doors.

16The idea of knowing if and when a door is opened made me think of this. AR-15’s equipped with a microdot somewhere no one would ever guess that lets a central computer know if the rifle is in traffic and where before a shot is ever fired. Seriously. I think technology can really help in this situation.Anyuone who does prhaps find the microdot an tries to remove it should get one helluva surprise immediat4ely if not sooner.
Also, anyone buying a gun has to prove they have property insurance that covers things like ther computer, cameras, etc.
Also again, a 1,000% sales tax and proof that it has been paid.
17Just saw a report that a police officer outside the Uvalde elementary school had the shooter in his sites (carrying an assault rifle mind you), and asked for guidance. No answer, so we know what happened next. I’m guessing that a black man in the same situation would be dead. There’s a history of that outcome. Just sayin.
18After posting the above I realized it’s Texas and guns are legal and encouraged to carry anywhere, anytime and any type. And assault rifles are a protected class of war weapon for civilians to use, no questions asked. Now I understand why the police didn’t do anything- could have violated the guy’s rights.
