  1. Go Beto!

I was afraid Abbott was going to go unopposed.

  2. Alright alright alright! Let’s go, Beto! I wonder if McConaughey will throw his support behind one or the other. As I recall, we weren’t at all sure which party he would claim, or whether he’d run as an independent. Hope Beto has gotten an assurance from Matthew that he won’t run.

  3. Go Beto! While you are about fixing things Texas, how about Cecile Richards for Lt. Gov or AG?

  4. This is damned good news, Beto’s probably be only Democrat with a good chance to beat Abbutt’s butt.

Never heard of that a-hole Matt McConman before, just another g’damned celebrity-type I guess, f’em.

Beto needs to work around some serious baggage from his past campaign[s], but the usual campaign PR should be able to patch that stuff up.

Yeah, I’m mainly talking about that ‘gunz, etc’ stuff that many of y’all more liberal types might want to emphasize. Forget that shit, and minimize some of the other stuff too. This IS Texass, and this is going to be an uphill fight that will need everything possible to win.
Harping on dead-loser issues and waving them around will not pull a victory off here. Just look at how that crap worked out before [with other candidates too], and just get with a winning strategy for a change.

  5. Jane & PKM @7, Excellent point.
Beto needs to run a super-strong and smart campaign, and a thoroughly competent running mate is imperative. Whether they be Richards or whoever, I’ll be happy with a proven winner.

  6. This will be a heavy lift, Abbott and the Texas Rethugs from top to bottom have thrown up huge barriers, voter suppression, hindrances of every kind. They have a deathgrip on much of the media.

    It ain’t gonna be easy.
    Start here:

Then start working and/or donating, either directly on Beto’s website, via ActBlue, or the Texas Democratic Party website [I got an email early this morning about this from them]:

  7. FYI, Beto’s website ‘donation link’ takes you right to his Actblue setup if you already have an account there, so it’s nearly painless and hassle-free.

  8. Grandma Ada says:

M glad Beto will run- the Democrats have been running the person who drew the short straw for too long! Also a reminder, Mike Collier is running for Lt. Governor and GOPer who registered as a Democrat Matthew Dowd is also going to be in that primary.

    9
  9. He’s on tape from one of the debates saying he’ll confiscate guns. He’s toast. Forever.

    10
  10. FYI– If you vote in Texas here’s a useful political districting tool from the Texas Tribune [link below] for checking out your location and which districts you’re in, how they lean, etc.

I know my location really got sliced and diced by the current Rethug redistricting bastardization, JFC what a mess. The inroads that the Rethugs have made with the Hispanic cohort in Texas should scare the livin’ shit outta the Texas Dems. Do something, damn it!

And good ol’ Abbutt was just in town this morning patting the latest now-former Democratic turncoat traitor on his yellow back.

Beto is definitely facing an uphill climb, some think he’s already dogmeat: https://www.texastribune.org/2021/11/15/texas-beto-orourke-guns-2022/

Texas has new political maps. See which districts your home is in.:

  11. For you out-of-staters: TX governor and Lt governor don’t run together on the same ticket. It’s two completely separate races and IIRC they don’t even have to be the same party.

    12
  12. Whatever his politics may be, how is his organization ??

    13
  13. Jane & PKM says:

Jill Ann @12, while independent spots on the same ballot, there is a synergy to be gained by Beto if the Democratic LT Gov candidate is also a high quality candidate. Sort of a twofer cover Texas campaign. While not joined at the hip in respect to the ballot, they can coordinate covering the state, maybe a few joint appearances with an energetic guest campaigner such as Senator Warren or another who can ad to their name recognition for an event to get out the message of what CAN be done for Texas.

  14. john in denver says:

Given the importance of negative partisanship, I’m hoping Gov. Abbott is less liked than Ted Cruz — though I’m not certain how that could happen.

Beyond the usual depredations of Republicans, Abbott has been in charge during last winter’s freeze fiasco and the ongoing tragedies of COVID. He is smack in the middle of ending abortion in Texas. Yet somehow, 270 To Win still shows Texas as a “Likely Republican” race.

Anyone have an explanation on how Beto & Democrats generally can boost interest in the race and provide good reasons for a sizeable set of voters to support the change?

    15
  15. Well, Beto set a record, needs to keep it up to surpass Abbutt’s $55M cash on hand though. [I chipped in my bit]
