Convicted (and Trump Pardoned) Felon Calls for Military Coup

May 31, 2021 By: El Jefe Category: Qanon, Treason (Yes, We're Going There), Trumpists

Mike Flynn, former national security advisor and convicted felon who was pardoned by Trump, called for a military coup like happened in Myanmar to remove Biden by force and instate Trump as dictator.  That’s right folks, just in time for memorial day, a retired career US Army officer and highest ranking security advisor called for shredding the Constitution and taking over the US government, Banana Republic style.  Where did he say this?  At a Qanon convention in Dallas. Yesterday.  Watch for yourself.

So, instead of sitting in a federal prison cell, insurrectionist Mike Flynn is calling for overthrow of the US government.  With the radicalization of one party, we continue to inch towards actual war.

Be social and share!

Commissioned officers are never truly separated from the military. The Sec. of the Army ought to order him back to duty and then court martial his ass.

I think we should have a good old Time neck tie party for him.
    He is a traitor SOB>

  3. Zyxomma says:

Lock. Him. Up. After trial, of course.

  4. BarbinDC and rastybob,

Take away all of his bennies, his retirement, free health care, the free grave at Arlington, etc. Court martial him and LOCK HIM UP.

  5. G Foresight says:

Presidential pardons are not forward facing. Continuing criminal activity is subject to new charges.

A question is when will the “rule of law” actually overcome the ability of the high-ranking to avoid being charged, and convicted, from ex-Generals and ex-Presidents to 2008 subprime crisis financial / bank officers etc., etc.

  6. RepubAnon says:

It would be nice to see him convicted at a court martial, then subjected to the old ceremony of having his decorations torn off his uniform, buttons removed, sword broken in half …

Did legitimate TX media have anything to say about this?
I heard the TX house voted down the Jim Crow voter suppression act that abbutt was getting a hard on to sign in front of the media. Maybe the house got wind of flynn flam’s comments and decided maybe it wasn’t a good day to approve such a bill. But they will eventually.

RepubAnon @6: OK, now you’ve outed yourself as a fan of the old TV show “Branded”. Or at least as someone who remembers it.

I’m reluctant to call for removing pensions and other benefits from these criminal insurrectionists. Once we start doing that, it will be easy for the next Fascist wannabe president to start doing it wholesale. E.g., you were at a protest for BLM? Then you lose any future Social Security and Medicare benefits. The wealthy won’t mind it, they will just use their Cayman Islands bank accounts and other tax shelters to live upon.

It’s the same idea of paying congress folk and senators minimum wage. It would not deter the Republicans who can draw upon Fox News and Koch brother money. But it could prevent people like AOC and Bernie Sanders from serving. And those are the folks we need in D.C.

  9. Seriously, isn’t it about time we brought back firing squads in the military? Retired or not, this guy is a traitor.

    9
  10. Steve, the Jim Crow law in Texas wasn’t voted down. The Democrats walked, so they didn’t have a quorum and couldn’t vote on it. The deadline ran out.

  11. AKLynn @10.

The gov and Lt gov are in a pissing contest about special session, when and what. Bet this voter suppression makes slot number 1.

What Barb in DC wrote at the beginning of the thread. The Secret Service might want to have a serious chat with him, too, ASAP.

  13. Halster says:

Flynn violated 18 U.S. Code ยง 2385 – Advocating overthrow of Government. The first provision is just for verbally advocating. Other provisions are for actual effort and participation. He could be fined and receive up to 20 years in federal prison where he wouldn’t be able to spend his military pension. The FBI should investigate and the DOJ should indict and prosecute, but we’ll have to wait and see if he gets the usual free ride.

  14. Steve from Beaverton says:

AK Lynn- stand corrected, thanks. What the Democrats in TX did is what OR repugnanticans have been doing for years to obstruct legislation. I’ve not been a fan of that, but don’t recall legislation here that is so blatantly partisan and obnoxious. It will get passed, no question.

  15. The Surly Professor at #8 says they are concerned about stripping retirement benefits and such from insurrectionists because that could be turned around and used against others, like BLM protestors having Social Security or something taken away.

The two are not comparable. The Uniform Code of Military Justice allows for someone to lose all their benefits if they are convicted while on active duty, a reservist on active duty or during training, or a retiree who retired from active duty (but not the reserves, or a veteran who did not serve enough to retire).

Essentially, retirees from the military are still subject to the UCMJ.

The last person called back to stand trial was in 2015, a Marine staff sergeant who had retired three months before his crime, sexually assaulting a coworker at his civilian workplace (a bar).

He was convicted in a courts-martial of rape and making illegal recordings. He appealed to the Supreme Court, which declined to hear the case.

Another Marine was recalled to active duty to stand courts-marital ten years after he retired for downloading and sharing child exploitation photographs. He was also convicted, also appealed, and also lost.

Retired Lt. Gen. Flynn has called for insurrection against the United States government, a crime explicitly prohibited in the UCMJ. He has also shown Contempt for Officials (another crime in the UCMJ).

Should calling for insurrection and instating a military dictatorship like Myanmar (as he argued), a direct violation of his oath to defend and support the Constitution without any mental reservation?

  16. Buttermilk Sky says:

Could they at least demote him to colonel? That would reduce his pension and give him something to whine about on Tuckums’s White Power Hour. Of course a sitting member of Congress just told people to shoot up “Silicon Valley,” so this is not a notable time for consequences.

    16
  17. Mae Ellen Childress says:

Consider this. Everyone in Texas can now carry handguns openly and without a license, training, etc. This is an open invitation for Qanon radicalized people to just go about shooting those with whom they disagree.

  18. Ormond Otvos says:

Serves us right for not voting.

    Try harder.

  19. john in denver says:

Wonder if Flynn’s remarks were vetted by his one-time lawyer, Sidney Powell — or if Flynn will rely on the “No reasonable person would conclude that the statements were truly statements of fact,” approach that her defense attorney submitted to the court for her defamation trial.

    “Ha-ha, it’s just a joke. Really.”

    19
  20. Bill F. says:

I don’t want to go too far down this rabbit hole, but doesn’t the rabid right keep telling us that the reason for the 2nd Amendment is so that what happened in Myanmar can’t happen here. Despite their dreams of Rambo and Red Dawn, the reality would be a lot closer to 1980s Beirut or 1990s Sarajevo.

  21. You would think from observing that many of the participants of the attempted Capitol coup are still in jail, those who are considering a second coup would think twice before trying it again.
