Here’s My Theory. What’s Yours?

Okay, look.  This is the biggest damn news to come down the pipeline in the last four years.  The Senate report on their investigation into Russian interference during the 2016 election.

It provided a bipartisan Senate imprimatur for an extraordinary set of facts: The Russian government disrupted an American election to help Mr. Trump become president, Russian intelligence services viewed members of the Trump campaign as easily manipulated, and some of Mr. Trump’s advisers were eager for the help from an American adversary.

For starters, at least *some* the Republicans on this panel knew *some* of the stuff in this report and they still voted to keep Trump in office.  Marco Rubio, you are dead to me.

Second, why now? I think it’s because the Democratic convention is proving that Democrats know how to react, adjust, and be successful.  Republican knew their convention, exactly like the Texas Republican convention, is going to be a last minute mishmash of secret meetings and horrible production.

Being able to react, adjust, and be successful are exactly the traits that Republicans do not have in their toolbox. Democrats have proven that they can.

What better time to roll this sucker out than during the Democratic convention?  The convention is eating all the headlines and social media attention.

You got a theory ?

My only critique is the “Mr. ) in front of sir name Trumo; the Trumpster, or A** Hole Trumpster is much more appropriate!

  2. Jane & PKM says:

Republicons didn’t want this as their very own “October Surprise” blowing up in their faces, so are hoping to air and bury it prior to the election?

Republicons are also treating voters to a form of “witness inoculation” to be followed by repeated spin and bury efforts. If they can whitewash Roger Stone, they have every expectation of loading up Manafort with their traditional lipstick veneer. When all else fails they’ll lie about their own complicity. Sound the “abandon ship?” Dunno. They seem hellbent on staying aboard this vessel until barnacles form on the rusting remaining pieces of hull at the bottom of the proverbial ocean.

I agree. They’re just trying to dress up the pig and put lipstick on to make it more acceptable to potential voters. I hope they don’t buy it.

I think the GOP up for re-election will go into hiding and just have lame commercials leading up to November. You have the stupid ones in DC they have to distance from as well as State ones in Texas. Gov. Dithers, after screwing up the mask/no mask, party/no party virus, he now is threatening cities if they re-route police funding to social services. It’s going to be a fight this November and again in 2022.

  5. A bunch of theories but none of them solid, except most do incorporeal Jane and PKM’s “October surprise” factor. First theory: Johnson and Grassley have been hinting about more “evidence” concerning Biden; his son, Hunter; and the Ukraine. Maybe they are hoping that getting the Russian interference out now during the Democratic convention will not only skip getting the media’s full attention at the moment and avoid that “October surprise” but get it further buried by their release of their so called Biden’s misdeeds report supposedly later this month.

Another theory: The avoiding-the-October-surprise theory gives them time to manipulate or spin the Russian interference as somehow Obama’s fault or making it a Democratic issue.

Or one last one: I read somewhere about McConnell has allowed the Republicans in states where they may potentially have a tough run to go ahead and distance themselves from Trump. Maybe this release now of the report is design to do just that – distance themselves. Unbelievably, last time more than a few of them tried to run on NOT repealing Obamacare when they actually voted for to repeal it.

All of these are counting on the voter’s bias and/or short attention span.

  6. Terry Sankey says:

“bipartisan” Senate? Makes me wonder, could the report be so bad the Repubs wouldn’t dare let it be partisan. My guess the Repubs want the report out now, rather than take a chance on it being the headline just before their convention.

  7. Those thinking that there is a short attention span on news would mostly be correct. Secondly, those who are inclined to vote for Trump don’t seem to care. If you were to debate using the report, they would tout the “no collusion” line by Rubio or similar bunk–or they would flat out say whatever dismissive name Trump says it is.

I think there is truth about the avoiding it being an October Surprise and hoping it gets buried in the news cycle where Dem convention will be a chunk in the news.

However, I also wonder if they are not considering some very important points: 1) This will not be a campaign season like any other and 2) Many people will feel pressured to make a decision sooner rather than later to be able to do mail in voting. So having any “surprise” bump or pothole needs to be planned earlier.

    7
  8. Yup! Those GOP Senators are no fihting for their lives. Too bad they weren’t that scared during the impeachment.

  9. So Cheeto will just fire any and all justices who oppose him at any level. It is just what dictators do. In fact,, he soon has a brush meeting with Putin to make final “adjustment” to his coup.
