Any Social Plans

Do you have any special plans for the convention kick-off tonight?

I went to a national convention in 2012 and everybody should do it once in their lives.  It was the most exhausting week of my life.  You start with breakfast at 6:30 in the morning and you don’t get back to the hotel until well after midnight, generally 1:20 am.

Bubba and I have special dinners planned – some fancy, some hot dogs and apple pie.

What ya gonna do?

Be social and share!

  1. Drink heavily.

  2. Larry from Colorado says:

We have 2 dinners of pulled pork from the local senior center.
But…I”m not sure I want to listen to the speeches. Maybe tomorrow read/listen?

  3. Grandma Ada says:

I’m going to the market tomorrow – I think cold beer and boiled shrimp might be on the menu.

    3
  4. Steve from Beaverton says:

After watching our grand boys for 11 hours today, believe we’ll sit on the patio, sip some fine (but cheap) Chardonnay, eat pizza with our daughter, watch the dogs play in the yard and fall asleep in my lounge chair. We’ll catch up on the highlights in the morning.
Now election night will be different (hopefully) staying up late and finally getting to drink the champagne we bought in 2015 to celebrate HRC being elected. Hope, hope, hope…………..

    4
  5. Eat a magic brownie and watch something intelligent like Spongebob.

    5
  6. Hey, I was a delegate at Charlotte in 2012 too! From upstate NY. I’ve been listening to (no TV) conventions for a really long time. The Dream Shall Never Die. Obama’s purple state speech in 2004 (I told our kids that he’d be the next Democratic candidate for Pres). The historic chaos of 1968, when I could vote for the first time. And do you remember Gabby Giffords leading the Pledge of Allegiance in 2012? I was a puddle on the floor. And John Lewis. His was the speech that I texted my wife “Go watch this now.
We’ll watch on the intertubes, live for part (early bedtime)but mostly the next day. A good speech bears repeating. Regardless, it will be historic. Looking forward to it.

  7. RepubAnon says:

My mind’s made up – straight Democratic ticket. No need for conventions.

    7
  8. I’m with RepubAnon. Don’t want to get my hopes up; just want to see the orange shitgibbon sent packing.

    8
  9. Jane & PKM says:

All of you folks in the heat belt, please, don’t laugh. But with a series of coastal thunderstorms creeping over the Sierras and doing nothing in terms of rain, we’re sitting in what is unaccustomed heat and humidity to us. When it’s in the high 70s here and does not drop the typical 40 degrees overnight, we’re whupped. It was already 59 this morning. Again, please, don’t laugh. Mornings here start about 35 degrees, that’s when we get the work done.

No cooking. Cold salads and things like shrimp cocktails, fruit plates, etc. until this passes. We’ll be on the patio begging for a breeze, listening to the convention with one ear, and taking the best advice from our boys. They’re always good for suggesting a swim in the creek. The little guys are hard to resist and the dogs always vote with them.

    9
  10. I’m with RepubAnon as well. I don’t have the patience for them, but I will catch the reviews tomorrow. Straight Democratic ticket here too.

Is it just me and my 12 year old boy humor or does this t-shirt make you cringe https://dncstore.com/products/the-cream-city-t-shirt

We are having a virtual wine party to toast Michelle Obama when she speaks.

    11
  12. I really want to hear Michelle Obama tonight.
    She is an excellent speaker.
    Also, Bernie will speak tonight!

    12
  13. thatotherjean says:

Sorry, not watching. I know what’s going to happen. I’ll catch Michelle’s speech tomorrow, and watch, probably, tomorrow night.

Why did we invite so many Republicans to speak, yet gave AOC one–that’s o.n.e.–recorded minute? I can see why people are offended. Me, too.

None of what’s going to happen, tonight or any other night of the convention, is going to change my vote–straight Democratic ticket. We need to win big, from President to City Council, because swamping the ticket will be the only way to quiet the Trumpers and get Donnie to go away.

    13
  14. Please let us know when someone from the Democratic Party publicly demands, during this convention, Indictment, Prosecution and Incarceration of this horde of criminals.
No business as usual this time.

    14
  15. @Philquag

Giuliani “warned” that of the thugs in the Republican party were prosecuted America would become “a banana republic”.
    https://www.mediaite.com/election-2020/rudy-giuliani-who-pushed-trump-doj-to-investigate-biden-warns-that-if-biden-doj-prosecutes-trump-us-would-become-banana-republic/

If by “banana republic” he means politically unstable, “any exploitative government that functions poorly for its citizenry while disproportionately benefiting a corrupt elite group or individual”, we’re there.

    15
  16. I made a terrrrrrrrible mistake.
So I’m watching the convention. But, along the way, I got curious — what is FOX up to?
I’ve got to stop listening to that little voice — but I didn’t this time.
    So I checked. And omg.

Hannity had some woman on and she was bemoaning the state of the nation. Because – – – – –
    wait for it – – – – –
people are miserable. Why? Because we’re living under a “Democrat regime.”
    Wait, What?
I guess the White House and the Senate don’t exist in her world.

The post office isn’t being dismantled and 171,000+ people haven’t died and people’s livelihoods haven’t been destroyed because the important issue is BLM. And that’s all the fault of – – –
    Democrats.

So she started going on and on about Portland. Because, heaven knows, Portland is a mess. Not because Trump sent military types there — with no insignia and no way to have any idea as to who they actually were — to throw peaceful protesters into unmarked vehicles and spirit them away.
Oh, no. She didn’t mention that.
It’s all because of the mayor.

I’ve gone back to the convention now.
There’s only so much a girl can take.

  17. slipstream says:

Chloe Bear: yep, that’s a cringer.

    Eeeeeeyyyyooooouuuuu.

    17
  18. I didn’t see the very beginning of the convention, but what I have seen has been excellent. The production values and smooth transitioning have kept it flowing. Each speaker has done a great job, culminating in Michelle Obama’s mesmerizing speech. So far so good.

    18
  19. Paul Lynam says:

Watched it end to end, and I sincerely hope that Michelle Obama remains in public life until I’m dead and composted.

    19
  20. Sam in Superior says:

I followed it on my phone. We just got a new dog at the shelter so everything in our life is grand.

The Netflix series “Ozark” is a good look at Trump supporters in their natural habitat.

    20
  21. The opening with Preamble to the Constitution and National anthem were AMAZING. Memorial to Covid victims was very well done. I wasn’t paying attention to all of the speeches as I was working on a project but I heard later that Bernie behaved himself. 😉 Heard most of Michelle and she was fantastic.

    21
  22. I will be ZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. 9PM start?!?!?! That’s when I’m curled up in bed with a book!

    22
  23. Popcorn and whiskey.

    23
  24. I made the mistake of watching the “convention” on PBS because they were the only broadcaster scheduled to air the whole thing. Much to my surprise, they spent way too much time chatting with their pundits and ignoring what was being shown. A pox on the house of PBS. At least they showed all of Bernie and Michelle.

So, since it’s mainly just two hours per night, I will watch on my computer and ignore all the talking heads.

The Dems have come up with a program that’s too compelling not to watch. The RNC is really screwed. They didn’t start planning for an alternative until way too late and, besides, all the creative people are Dems.

    24
  25. Popcorn and whiskey? No! Popcorn and beer sounds much better.
