Texas Medical Center Now Censoring ICU and Hospital Capacity
As we’ve already reported, the Texas Medical Center halted reporting all COVID-19 data after some kind of agreement with Greg Abbott to continue allowing elective surgeries even after his statewide order that shut down those elective surgeries to free hospital capacity for infected patients. TMC halted that reporting just as it reached 100% base capacity and forecast overrunning surge capacity in days.
Well, TMC started reporting the data again last night, but OMITTED ICU and hospital capacity data. A before and after example is below. Doctors in
TMC have been ringing the alarm bells for weeks, and management was accurately reporting data and also sounding the alarm until everything stopped Thursday. The Houston Chronicle has now picked up the story as well as other local media. Frankly, this entire episode is shameful; corruption has moved from Austin and the governor’s mansion to the largest medical center in the world.
Our legacy will be determined by how we respond to this crisis. I’m not hopeful as the cancer of Trump has metastasized from Queens to Houston.
Not only the TMC has quit reporting, the Texas State Department of Health has now restricted that information on their daily post. I have been writing the numbers of state wide and my own region’s hospitalizations every day for three months (doing my private research project). Today I find I must have a username and password they will accept. They accepted none I proposed. I am very angry. This is their site. https://txdshs.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/ed483ecd702b4298ab01e8b9cafc8b83
1Isn’t this what Trump and Republicans are accusing China of
2Covering up the Corona virus severity?
Welcome to world where Government is run like a business. Corporate Fascism, ‘Profit over People’
Lol, let the markets decide!
3A little OT, but maybe not so much with the Orange Guano trying to eliminate the ACA, I seem to remember a Congress-person(Katie Porter?) nailing a Gov official down that the Gov would pay for All testing And treatment for Covid19. I could understand the *Administration not reminding us, but our JOB is to remind them, and hold them to it! At least, that is my take on it.
4It made the ABC Nightly (National) News!
5Notice: Please take a glance below.
Rebekah Jones was a scientist summarily fired by the state of FL for refusing to fudge facts of Corona virus. She started her own web site instead and keeps accurate data although pertinent information is still being withheld by the state.
Someone will have to step forward and present a workable site specific to Texas counties for lifesaving information.
There are 3 panels showing numbers ( left ) county (in the middle) and graphs (right) Please click the three lines on upper right to fit to screen.
Note: the bottom row of tabs has useful info for FL residents including ICU availability grading counties on social distancing, etc.

6After I posted, I went to Texas Tribune site. They have access to current hospitalizations and are posting, both state wide and regional numbers. Our local health department in the county has done well so far in providing information. (Small town, small county. The director lives two doors down the block. I’m not worried about local. Yet. Unless they are throttled.)
7Judith @ 7 Yes, TMC and FL Covid sites are visually similiar. The variance in county numbers is eye opening though. You are fortunate to have locally accurate data sources. State quashing of data reeks of DC origins.
8The Republicans seem to believe that if they hide the numbers, nobody will notice that hospitals are overrun and thousands of people are sick and dying. Not only is this hypocrisy lethal, but
9it is terminally stupid, much like the Drumpf and Pence show.
They are all complicit in allowing people to die needlessly.
Lying is their default setting.
This morning, I have access to the hospital numbers, state wide. I threw a hissy fit for something that was probably a temporary glitch. Goes to show how tentative trust is. But I hope those who saw only my first post will see this one. I really really hate misinformation, and now I see how it can get going – I can start it!! – by being on a hair-trigger.
10Sorry everyone.
Judith:
11Speaking only for myself, you’ve just demonstrated why you you could never be a repugnantcan. Changing an assertion based on new evidence is refreshingly…..
American.
Thank you.
Actually, it’s also nostalgically American.
12Seriously. Thanks.
They’re fudging the death rate, too. If they were honest, even a little honest, like GWB or Darth Cheney, it’d be something north of 5%.
Somehow, they think they can get away with a wholly fictional rate of 1.62%.
13The downside of having the world’s biggest hospital is that you can run up huge deficits very fast. Beancounters in charge, not medicoes.
14Fudge the numbers all you want…at some point reality hits…harder if you have been fudging. For example, most people don’t really pay attention until someone close is affected. Say a husband, wife, mother, father, son or daughter is affected….and, boy howdy, see the real reaction when a grandchild is affected.
Odds are not really stacked in the current administration’s favor as long as they try to ‘manage’ the numbers rather than address the health issues itself with real data.
15After months of not being able to utter “wear masks”, Pence finally Sunday said it out loud. Also, Azar finally told the truth as to just how serious this pandemic is. It’s almost the 4th of July, 6 months after they knew about it. While they now think they’re doing such a great job by coming out, it only proves that the Trump administration was derelict in their duty and complicit in the resulting deaths. Of course their leader hasn’t said nor will he. He’s too busy running for the presidency of the new confederate states.
