When A Democrat Acts Like This, He’s Gotta Go
I understand that Senator Doug Jones of Alabama is in a very red state. I also understand for Democrats in a red state doing what it takes to get reelected far surpasses doing what is right, but Ho Boy!, this one takes the cake.
Alabama Democratic Sen. Doug Jones said Sunday that he could vote either way on President Donald Trump’s yet-to-be announced nominee to replace Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
“I’m open to voting yes. I’m open to voting no. We don’t know who the nominee is going to be yet,” Jones told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union. “I don’t think my role is to rubber stamp for the President, but it’s also not an automatic knee-jerk no, either.”
Okay, wouldn’t it be easier to say, “whoever writes me the biggest campaign donation gets my vote, Skippy.”
I flat know that having Jones beat Roy Moore was a wonderful thing, but Jones left the victory stand and took an immediate right turn. He also started to take himself far too seriously.
If Jones didn’t understand on election night that (1) Black women are who put him in office, and (2) he’s only going to have one term to put himself in the history book, then he’s a damn fool and the GOP can have him.
Thanks to Brian for the heads up.
He’s just mirroring Susan Collins – I hope.
1I don’t worry about how Doug Jones votes, but he should if he wants to remain a Senator for a full term. As reason #1 you stated: “(1) Black women are who put him in office…”
Like the many ladies who brought us into the world and are fond of reminding us, “they can take us out” so too will happen to the political world of Doug Jones should he forget the Black women who brought him to the dance. H/T Molly Ivins: Molly Ivins wrote a book titled “You got to dance with them what brung you: politics in the Clinton years” (1998).
2Another name on my call list/email list.
3Let’s see, there’s Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp, Joe Donnelly
Lisa Murkowski, Susan Collins and Doug Jones, along with my homies, Bob Casey and Conor Lamb.
I’ve given up on the Repug, Pat Toomey. He’s a lost cause.
Doug Jones IS a demdisappointment. I read somewhere, can’t recall where that he votes the Spanky Drumpf line over 50% of the time. Useless as a dem.
4Yeah. I wonder about “Democrats” like him. I understand counting numbers toward a majority, but . . . what’s a majority worth if it votes like snacilbupeR? What have we gained?
5This is the problem with supporting anyone who claims the D after their name on the ballot line.
6Too many like munchken from w.v, heidi from the north nd donelley from Indiana, and others, are, in lenins words, “useful idiots” who are at heart thuglicans but the queue of r’s in front of them is filled so they run as d’s as a matter of convience knowing their R freinds will welcome them after they have sold out the d’s on some matter of importance.
So for all those who say we should vote for these ……. just because they have a d after their name please cease. phil graham had a d after his name before he sold out and help gut the texas D party.
Still proud of that vote?
So how do we get campaign finance reform without running afoul of Citizens United?
7The vote that really counted happened in 2016.
8Not the brightest thinker. How soon they forget.
