Let Them Have Cake
The cake argument is not about cake. It’s about celebrating being judgmental and hypocritical. Oddly enough, those are the two things Sweet Jesus had the strongest feelings about.
There wasn’t any decision about cakes for mixed race couples, or for couples with multi divorces.
The Court went two inches away from allowing restaurants to refuse service to African Americans because the owner has a strongly held belief that African Americans don’t deserve service.
Or maybe a company can refuse to hire to hire women because the owner has a strongly held religious belief that women shouldn’t work outside the home.
The sumbitches are saying this is “a huge win for religious freedom.” No, it is not. It is only a win for religions who do not believe that we are our brother’s keepers, that we should judge other people harshly, and that being mean is a sacrament.
They were gay people in Jesus’ time. He had not one single word to say against them. Not one word. And I bet he would have eaten their cake or multiplied their fishes.
It’s kinda sad this decision came down to kick off Pride month.
Exodus 23:19 Eating a cheeseburger or anything that mixes meat and dairy…
If not separation of church and state, then now let the Roberts’ court perform their duty.
1Amen Sister. Preach to the heathens!
2As far as I know, there is no mention of who was being married at Cana. Could have been a same-sex wedding where Jesus did his first miracle. Who knows?
3“Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus tells Peter in the Garden of Gethsemane. “Everyone who uses a sword will be killed by a sword.” Matthew 26:52.
The NRA is now violating freedom of religion according to the USSC.
4And Christian denominations wonder why their membership numbers are falling.
5I heard plenty about this decision since I had cheesecake for lunch. Apparently this was very narrowly defined by the court and of course the liberal section declined. Have always felt that businesses that discriminate like this baker did are cutting themselves off at the knees inasmuch as they are not the one and only such business in town. I did hear somewhere that you can even order a cake via the internet. I wonder of a drone would deliver it? Still, its too bad the court had to see things this way. It has a jerky-jerky feel to it and I bet it won’t last long. Another sort of decision ill come along on something else that will undermine it.
As for Christianity having ever so much to do with this, I also see capitalism sitting on this case like an overdeveloped buzzard in a very, very small nest.
6Here’s another win for religious freedom:
Tear out pages in your Bible with which you don’t agree.
7Or save time, and don’t read them in the first place.
Have just downloaded the SCOTUS decision on the wedding cake. Seems that they thought the State anti discrimination panel went over the top with the language in describing the case in their decision. This leads me to think even more strongly that this SCOTUS decision won’t last long.
8I agree with maggie. This was a very narrow decision based on the Colorado brief being rather too flagrantly hostile to (racist/bigot/creepy) Christians. I think they are begging for another case that does not have as much baggage as this so they can decide once and for all.
9How do we know He wasn’t one of them? Never married, traveled with 12 guys….
10Nice little song dedicated to all the haters out there!

11Um, this was a 7-2 decision. Not a 5-4 us vs. them. I don’t LIKE it, because we are now really teetering on the tip
12tip top of the slippery slope, but I read that this was a very narrowly defined decision, specific to this case. Also, that part of the problem was that in some very early round, one of the members of the deciding body was extremely dismissive and hostile about the baker’s religion. So this MAY WELL BE about the 1st Amendment: the governmental body is meant to remain neutral on matters of religion. The transcripts will undoubtedly be made public for those of us who really want to go digging; at 7-2, this does not look like a knee-jerk conservative court response to me. There will be more cases involving florists and photographers and videographers, etc, etc, too.
@lazrgrl: ROFLMAO!! If that’s the case I don’t have to worry about if the super sanctimonious ones are gonna bug me if I manage to get to heaven-if dear Jesus was in fact a gay Jew they will all choose to go to the devil! LOLOL! Thank you for the giggle, they are thin on the ground these days!
13Hold my beer, or their unholy water. But according to their own dogma these fakirs supposedly follow dog’s law, not man’s law. Ergo ipso facto, they should not have been in court, but rather out in the desert somewhere searching for paw prints and signs to guide them.
14Wow! Always love your commentary, but this was the best! Preach on!!
15The most disheartening part of this decision was the 7-2 score. I get that the RAGS are gonna vote their nacilbupeR line, but who of the normal justices went to the dark side?
16SORRY… meant “RATG” but autocorrect got me. …
17There is nothing in the universe sillier than a Christian complaining about persecution.
18Yeah, this totally sucks, but, Fred, I really enjoyed the tasteful little ditty from YouTube you linked to. Gracias. I intend to share it. I share her sentiments exactly.
One thing about Christians. Please don’t lump them all together. The Mainline denominations have no problem whatsoever with LBTG folks. They ordain us, host our weddings, baptize our babies, celebrate with us. They are totally on our side!
Mainline: Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, United Church of Christ, Christian Disciples, United Methodist Church, Presbyterian Church USA, Episcopal Church USA, Reformed Church, American Baptist Church.
That’s all I can think of now but They Have Our Backs. Don’t confuse them with the a$$hole evangelical fake churches.
19Lazrgrl:
20You rock! Or country and western, I don’t know which. But that was fanf**kingtastic!
And Fred, I’m sharing that too.
And for anyone who doesn’t already follow John Pavlovitz, check out his latest, which happens to be about this very subject.

Stuff that needs to be Said
Jesus would let them eat cake.
Mmmmmm, that cake looks yummy. What happened to separation of Church and State? Allowing business owners to discriminate against any minority, no matter what they perceive to be their religious convictions, is unconstitutional. SCOTUS is dead wrong. They are being asked to provide what their business purports to provide, not commit sex acts against their will, for God’s sake.
Even Pope Francis has spoken out about gay rights. “God made you the way you are.”
21And what would Mr. Rogers say? “I like you just the way you are.”
