Living Well Is The Best Revenge

August 08, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Y’all remember the Dixie Chicks, don’t you?  Republicans tried to run them out of business after they said that they were proud of Texas but not so proud of George W Bush.  Why, the Republicans accused the Chicks of being unAmerican for poor-mouthing the President.

Well, Honey, they are back with a vengeance.  And ho boy they can sing and sell out shows all over Texas.

But they are still not ready to make nice.  Good on ‘um.

The crowd wasn’t just enjoying the music. They were communing, absorbing, welcoming back old friends who still have plenty to say.

The message was clear during revenge anthem “Goodbye Earl,” which earned one of the night’s biggest responses. Scenes of women in peril from black-and-white films were interspersed with images of Chris Brown, O.J. Simpson and Donald Trump as a cartoonish devil (which earned the loudest roar).

Welcome home.

  1. Loved “Not Ready To Make Nice”! “I’m mad as hell, can’t bring myself to do what it is you think I should….” And “Goodbye Earl” I hope makes a few bullies and abusers rethink their approach to women or else Goodbye Earl!

  2. Love those Dixie Chicks!

I’m way out of the loop – didn’t even know they were back together.

    CHICKS RULE!!

  4. Closet Optimist says:

I made a point to go out and buy that CD when it came out. I love them! Are they still blackballed on country radio stations?

  5. Nice to see people come to their senses… over the long haul.
The only way George W. could sell out an:

    Iraq!
    Mission Accomplished Tour 2016!

in Baghdad, is if promoters offers free shoes as part of the ticket price. For throwing.

  6. Just when I thought they couldn’t find any one worse to run than ‘W’.
The GOP tops its self. Long live the Chicks. And many top 10s.
    Will they have.

Yes, funny how Republican thinking about criticizing a “wartime President” shifted from treasonous during Dubya’s term to a patriotic duty as soon as a Democrat got sworn in. But that’s Tepublicans – no fixed sense of right or wrong.

  8. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President,
or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong,
is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable
to the American public. — Teddy Roosevelt

They certainly got a raw deal. Especially when you consider the crap Toby Kieth get away with from the rethugs. All his whining about poor put upon white christians. Of course like trump, some people play to their audience no matter what.

  10. The chicks are back. And Larry Klayman isn’t from Texas. It’s gotten to the point that every time some RWNJ spouts something repugnant, I cringe as I read where they’re from.” Please don’t be from Texas. Please don’t be from Texas”. Maybe things are looking up.

  11. Old Fart says:

While I’m definitely not ready to make nice, I don’t wish anyone to die either.

But then nobody has tried to take my life, either.
    I’m glad they’re back ✨✨⭐️

  12. It is beginning to seem possible that Hillary Clinton as President would really kick-up the fight for equality (and respect) for women.

  13. Saw the CHX last month in Hershey, PA, and it was wonderful. I joined the hundreds of young ladies singing the “incendiary” songs from that CD at the tops of our lungs– it was…Awesome, as the young ladies say! Great fun to see them, and they played quite well in Central PA.

Gawd, I love them gals! And “Not Ready to Make Nice” is one of the best songs in the universe. YOU GO, DIXIE CHICKS!

  15. Dixie Chicks, the living example of the old adage well behaved women never make history. Good on them!

You have to give them credit for courage and plainspokeness.
One or more of them live, or used to, in Bandera, TX (Cowboy Capital), which is about a reddest county in Texas you’ll find; it’s just eat up with teabagger types and worse.
Even a RW’er like everybody’s fav, Phil Gramm, has a ranch near there. Haven’t checked poll results lately, but I think Bandera usually runs better than 90% Rethug votes cast.
There was a prominent ‘school prayer’ case there not long ago (covered here), about football prayer huddles, etc, IIRC.

(long ago, when we needed more riding time than the stable (now gone) at SA’s Brackenridge Park, my kids and I would go out there to horseback ride (almost) open country at some of the dude ranches around Bandera, fun times; not as much fun as the one East of El Paso with miles and miles of riding country though).
