Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
Happy Fourth to all the Murkuhns out there. May your BBQ, beer, and shopping be good. That’s what it’s all about, amirite? Oh, and fireworks. Don’t forget the fireworks. No need to think about anything else, is there?
1Still a great country. And let’s keep up the efforts trying to keep it that way. And keep your pets inside (or locked in the barn) during the fireworks!
2Let’s – and everyone be safe, too!
3Somebody had fun making that painting! Makes me want to paint.
4Time for congratulations on the fact that this country, the only one on the planet with an actual birthday in writing, has managed to make it 240 years. That alone I can cheer! In comparison to the rest of the planet with countries that can ascertain their existence hundreds upon hundreds of years ago, we are toddlers! And toddlers can be messy! The vast majority of our gifts – intellectually, industrially, scientifically, etc. – have yet to really be divined let alone developed and implemented. I have spent some time this morning reading some very relevant stuff for the Fourth of July, such as Frederick Douglass’s speech about Independence Day Add to that quotations from a bevy of Founding Fathers to which I will add just one more from a Founding Mother, Abigail Adams, “Remember the ladies.” A lot of of what I read I already knew – the Theism of the Founders, for instance, and how even a lot of the last half of the 20th Century Republicans agreed with it when it came to public and personal liberty and where the interests of the state began and ended. I always was and still pretty am confident in not just the better angels that Lincoln referenced but the best angels. Happy Independence day, y’all!
5Here’s to FREEDOM, not Freedumb.
6There is a full moon tonight to celebrate. Imagine the moon and fireworks in one spectacular heavenly display. Then think of Drumpf and puke your guts out.
7Technically the full moon this month is July 19, but anything resembling it tonight will be Donald dropping his drawers and bending over to show his respect for America.
8But why is one of the baseball games in Canada today? Just doesn’t seem right.
9This site..er..salon, is a great example of how fortunate we are to be Americans. A lot of people in the world have the technology to do this, but not the opportunity without fear of reprisal. And at least to me, even in the places where that freedom exists, political discourse and even exercising the right to vote can lead to very different outcomes than here. How many times in the past have we read that some newly elected European leader had to form a new government? Our founding fathers gave us a stability that’s rarely seen outside our borders in the form of our constitution.”A nation of laws, not men”. That gives me faith that even when we’re as divided as we are now, eventually enough of us will remember that we ARE all Americans. We all love our kids, and there really are a lot more things that unite us than divide us. And it’s that very stability that allows us to disagree so much on so many things, knowing we won’t have to fight our neighbors anytime soon. At least I hope so. Anyhoo, thanks for the place to talk JJ. Happy fourth everybody.
10Umpty, you are of course righter than me. I was going by the solstice full moon and they said July 4th would be the next full moon. If I could count I would have seen the error of my ways. I can still puke my guts out thinking of Drumpf.
11Happy 4th of July!
12KEEP AMERICA GREAT
DEFEAT TRUMP
Dig this-Hobby Knobby Lobby apparently believes Independence Day is for white kristians only.

Pay no attention to Grudznick. He mainlines on gravy taters and farts out his mouth.
13The world’s first documented baseball game took place in Beachville, Ontario on June 4, 1838. Although more strongly associated with the United States, baseball has existed in Canada from the very beginning. The world’s oldest baseball park still in operation is Labatt Park in London, Ontario. It is home to the London Majors of the semi-pro Intercounty Baseball League.
14Actually, we didn’t become a country until the ratification of our Constitution in 1789. We just declared our independence in 1776. And then things got messy. Just goes to show, nothing is easy.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA! Have a happy 4th to you wonderful salon patrons! Big hugs to y’all.
15Our 4th has been rained out. Will feed everybody tomorrow after work. Could be worse.
I consider this a small price to pay in comparison to all the other people around the country who have been dealing with tornadoes, floods, wild fires, and other weather-related disasters. We’ve been relatively lucky here in DC this year.
16You know, that might be a big messy decorated cake, not a big messy painting. Just think of a very large two year old turned loose in the kitchen when you think of gummint.
17I just love reading what y’all have to say. Thanks for the salon, JJ!
18Would rather not thing of the Large Orange One today, thank you very much!!
19Stuffed my tummy at our lunchtime potluck!! Burp! Burp!
Took a nice long afternoon nap after that lunch!!
And now I’m up and still full from that lunch!! Supper? No thank you!! LOL
I’ve had a lovely 4th, so far! Looking forward to some snappy fireworks put on by the City of Canon City later on and I won’t even have to go outside to see them!! 🙂 Love that part!
I hope everyone has had a fabulous Fourth so far!! <3
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY
20From Talkeetna, Alaska
Fabulous Fourth! Watched and burped little ones. Ate buffalo wings, the homemade kind, had a beer and ate patriotic cake with gelato. Enjoy your family whenever you can. One of ours is moving his little family off to Pennsylvania.
21It made me angry. It was all long ago quotations not for this era. Basically bison piles. How many papers? Bet it cost millions and pissed off a lot of people. OQ
22Happy Independence Day to TWMDBS and Americans everywhere!
I moved a week ago to an old people building and just discovered that 2 of my neighbors are right wingnut tea bagger types. As long as we don’t talk about politics, they’re nice enough old ladies. They’re 15-20 years older than me, so not many votes left for them. I wish them a happy 4th too.
23I sympathize with Debbo. I have lived in Texas for 3 years now. (Getting old and the kids wanted me close after their Father passed away) I joined the local church quilt group. Sigh. Not only do I have to listen to the tea bagging repubs blather about how bad Obama and Hillary are, I also have to put up with them trying to convert me. Just because I live in Texas does not make me a Texas Woman. Dammit, I am an American
24Crazy Quilter, my mother went to her church’s Wednesday Morning Coffeebreak the day after the election in 2008 and all the other women were talking about how terrible it was and how America was going to be ruined. “What did you say?” “I didn’t say anything. I drank my coffee and ate a bun.” I dared her the next week to wear the button I bought her: Old White Women For Obama. She said she did and nobody said a word.
25Thanks Rhea. That makes me feel better. Usually, to change the subject, I just ask a dumb question and they all have an opinion on how I can fix whatever is wrong with the quilt I’m making. Quilt advice I’ll listen to, politics, not so much. When they start with the Jebus talk I usually have to go to the ladies room.
