Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
Great stuff; all on point today. These should be given out to all the Bernie supporters who refuse to vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination because “Trump can’t be any worse than Clinton.”
1Susan (and admins), I’ve posted this on Constitutional Mic Drop, so if double posting isn’t allowed, feel free to remove it:
Is every adult you know registered to vote? If not, find out if there’s some way you can help. Possible ways: access to your high speed internet, small gift (masquerading as a loan if that saves face) of cash to pay for documents, ride(s) to the DMV for photo ID if you’re in one of “those” states, ride(s) to the polls if they’re distant. We must have a Democrat in the WH, and we really must take back the Senate. I have spoken!
2Does anyone know if there is a way to volunteer to help people get registered? The people I know are registered, but I’d be happy to help someone who needed a lift or help with byzantine paperwork (former librarian and special needs advocate) if I knew a place to volunteer. In other words, Is there an app for that? I’m in Austin, btw.
3lyntilla, connect with your local Dem office. Mine had us standing at shopping centers asking everybody if they were registered to vote and helping them with the (non-byzantine in MD) paperwork right there if they weren’t. You can’t be partisan about it, but you can pick the neighborhoods you cover. I assume they also arrange rides to the polls later, but I wasn’t much use for that with my two-seater.
4Marge Wood, frequent contributor to this forum, is the Energizer Bunny of Austin Voter Registration. Basically you have to go down to your county elections office, take their little course, raise your right hand and swear on your honor to do the right thing…. they will give you the paperwork, and you’re off to the races. Just call the Elections Office and find out when their next class is being held.
5I choose the talking boxing glove. It really pictures the true tRump who talks like an abusive husband/boyfriend/son. I don’t know of a single victim of domestic violence who would vote for him. The fact that I know victims of domestic violence? I formerly did some social work through a church group. Very, very educational.
6According to Drumpf,he is the single greatest (fill in the blank) that ever was.
7To lyntilla. Believe it or not, I envy the fact that you live in Texas. In Florida, our governor has made it basically illegal to register people to vote. Using methods reminiscent of how most of the south has shut down abortion clinics, he has made the rules so stringent [register with the state before beginning, get the paperwork to the registrar within 48 hours or face a steep fine] he has managed to drop voter registration to an all time low.
This law was put into place when Obama was running for his second term. Gee, what a coincidence. Fortunately, at that time Obama’s campaign hit the ground in Florida canvassing to register new voters. I don’t think either Dem campaign is doing that now and I, for one, can’t risk making a mistake and getting fined. I’m guessing, too, that Rick Scott’s administration might accuse me of voter fraud [they need fraud statistics to justify the law] and take away my right to vote.
I AM working for Bernie right now and I will offer to transport voters to the polls on The Day – no matter which candidate makes it onto the ballot. THAT I can do without risking the loss of my right.
8If ted poe was still on the bench / not in congress
9two crows, those laws sound horrific. Is someone challenging them in court?
10In South Dakota, wingnuts are all upset about being designated “ammosexuals”. They claim it is as derogatory as “fag” and “queer.” Poor babies.
