  1. Susan the Neon Nurse says:

What’s all this fuss I hear about the Iowa carcasses?! If Iowa has a health hazard like this going on, they should clean it up themselves, not ask all these politicians to come. They’ll probably just make it worse!!! Why, they–what? Oh.

    Never mind. 🙂

  2. JAKvirginia says:

    Susan the Neon Nurse:

Carcass? I thought it was Caulk Us. I thought they had a leak problem. Oh, well… yes… nevermind.

  3. W. C. (Pete) Peterson says:

I was hoping to be able to compare total Democratic votes vs total Republicant votes to get a sense of how the nation feels about the election in general. But it now looks like the Democrats are reporting SDEs — State Delegate Equivalents, whatever those are. Why does it have to be so damned complicated all the time?

    3
  4. daChipster says:

JAK… They never cover the Caulk Us because the same guy wins it every year: Phil McCracken.

    Every. Damn. Year.

  5. My bachelors was from Punsylvania State, but it did not preparate me for THIS. 😉

  6. Polite Kool Marxist says:

As a voter in a caucus state (NV), I do not like this perversion of one-man-one vote. I do not like the Electoral College, and what’s with this “super delegate” chatter? Somehow some Sinator or Congress varmint outweighs your vote, my vote or any citizen’s vote?

Most beautiful ladies of the WMDBS, I come in peace. When I state one-man-one vote, I mean mankind of which you are the most valuable component. Not only do we need to repeal Citizens United and repel Kochtopocracy, we need to fight the good fight in which every citizen has an opportunity to vote and have their vote counted.

When Democrats win the popular vote, but are defeated by gerrymandering, we need election reform as well as showing up at the polls in significant numbers to change the dynamic.

    6
  7. JAKvirginia says:

PKM, re: showing up at the polls.

Yes! That’s it exactly. I’ve said it here before; when Dem turnout is 90% or higher, then we can shout about gerrymandering and other such. We NEED to show up in numbers this year that will gobsmack any pollster. This year is not about just winning. It’s about winning big. VOTE!

    7
  8. Juanita Jean says:

If Chris Christie finishes below Huckabee, that’ll be funny.

    8
  9. Truss Ted

    9
  10. WA Skeptic says:

Who’s paying these guys to waste time and money when they’re polling in less than 6%???

But maybe the citizens of New Jersey are funding this on the Q.T.; after all, if The Jersey Whale is out of state and campaigning he isn’t screwing things up in New Jersey. Plus, he’s wasting a lot of money!

    Win/Win

    10
  11. Juanita Jean says:

Okay, I would rather meet Darth Vader in a dark alley with a chainsaw than to look directly at Ted Cruz.

    11
  12. AlanInAustin says:

    Susan the Neon Nurse:

Are you sure they weren’t referring to Caracas?

    12
  13. AlanInAustin says:

Marco seems to be spending a lot of air time thanking God. You’d think that if he prayed to the right deity that Marco would have done better than third place.

    13
  14. Aggieland Liz says:

Juanita, use a mirror and cut his head off (isn’t that how Hercules got rid of Medusa or someone…and she had a hairstyle problem too? Scaly I think, which is most apropos!)

    14
  15. That’s a revolting development. tRump I expected to spend his money to buy Iowa. With no money Canadian Ted must have sold his soul for the win. There’s only one buyer in that market.

    15
  16. My son in the Quad Cities gave me texts with heads-ups on his caucus. The initial count gave Sanders 121, Hillary 95, O’Malley 11 and Uncommitteds 3. So that eliminated O’Malley because he didn’t make the 15% threshold. It ended up 124 for Sanders and 94 for Hillary. However, turning those into percentages means that of the 6 convention delegates for the district, this precinct apportioned 3 to Clinton and 3 to Sanders. Son said that though this was his first caucus, he was told that the turnout was greater than usual. Most were older, but his neighborhood doesn’t have a lot of young people either. It was pretty much over in an hour.

    16
  17. As much as I hate to give him credit for anything beyond creepiness, Cruz is actually the best politician in that crowd. If that doesn’t scare you, nothing will.

    17
  18. What sucks: Cruz and Trump ended up first and second, but everybody expected anyway that the two of them would top the Republican field.
What doesn’t suck 1: Donald the Blowhard trailed Cruz considerably and ended with Rubio hot on his heels.
What doesn’t suck 2: It’s still no walkaway for Cruz. He’ll fare far worse in New Hampshire, and all the Republicans be leaving Iowa with lots of pig poop on their shoes.
What doesn’t suck 3: South Carolina will likely be bad for Trump and Cruz while Rubio may have his day. Anything that keeps the snacilpubeR in turmoil will have them devoting more energy to slamming each other and less to demonizing Hillary or Bernie.

    18
  19. BraxtonBraggart says:

“With no money Canadian Ted must have sold his soul for the win.”

    A second mortgage, maybe?

    19
  20. Huckster and O’Malley are out. With that pitiful showing, Santorum should have followed them. Maybe tomorrow.

    20
  21. austinhatlady says:

Home now from three-hour chorus rehearsal. Just a few minutes after getting in car, Cruz started his victory speech with “To God be the Glory”. Good thing there is not that much traffic on MoPac at 10:05 pm! On sofa now watching MSNBC with dark chocolate Kisses and a class of milk, cheering as Hillary delivered a “victory” speech. Bernie about to take the stage.

    21
  22. Mark Schlemmer says:

Well, given that these boys are not playing marbles (or with all their marbles) I expect the campaign to question the legal status of Cruz being President will ramp up in the next 72 hours.
We can only hope that is the case. If there is really a God: Please don’t make us listen to him make speeches for a year.
    Please.

    22
  23. Mark S. I was just wondering about Cruz’s eligibility. I didn’t think it was settled; how much longer is this going to take?

    23
  24. Micr – I’m pretty sure that Cruz has lots of financial backing.
Though it makes me a bit uneasy that he won, Iowa has a strong evangelical contingent that isn’t present in lots of other places.

Really tickled that Trump is a LOOOOOO-ZZZEERRRRR!!!

And little Mario damn near tied him. Eeeeexcellent.

    24
  25. slipstream says:

Allow me to informulate you: a caucus is the sound made by an angry crow . . . and aren’t they all?

    25
  26. Ralph Wiggam says:

So it is official, Trump got schlonged by Cruz.

Now try to get that image out of your head.

    26
  27. PKM, your long, brilliant history here at the WMDBS give us no doubt you come in peace. I also come in peace. As a now officially “old” female I respectfully request that you please consider the terms ‘humankind’ and ‘one-person-one-vote’ for future use.

Us folks here in NC who are involved in the Moral Monday movement are doing our damnedest to fight for the voting rights of ALL, which also means encouraging them to fully exercise those rights.

    27
  28. Marcia in CO says:

If any of you caught any of Morning Joe this morning, you’d have heard how surprised Joe Scarborough was over the fact that someone with the Cruz campaign sent out a tweet or email saying Ben Carson had dropped out of the race when, in fact, he had not. He went home to get some clean shirts! So, Joe was shocked … SHOCKED I tell ya … that Cruz’s people would LIE about Carson in the hopes of grabbing votes away from ole Bennie. It would seem it worked to Cruz’s advantage!
Evidently, Joe Scarborough, hasn’t read the memo that the only way the RWNJs can win anything — ANYTHING — is to lie and steal.
So now the Right has their Joe McCarthy Clone running for President … that must be pretty close to orgasmic for so many!!!
    —————-
Clinton and Sanders … running neck ‘n neck … holy cow!!

    28
  29. Actually, kind of thought that Hill and Bernie would finish this way in Iowa. Also had hoped that Trump would get his pants handed to him and WOW! The Canadian Cuban did it. I seriously doubt will last long. Also had a feeling that Rubio would do very, very well and GASP! i was right!. And how often does that happen! OK. Onward, ever onward. New Hampshire is very, very Bernie country. Has been for years. Next question: if NH hands Trump his pants again, will he drop out before Super Tuesday and a few of these other events? Another question almost like the first: in that case, will he declare and run as an Independent? He not only has the money, he has something even larger: his ego.

    29
  30. Marcia in CO –

Cruz is much worse than McCarthy, who, though every bit as amoral and opportunistic, was pretty much an alcoholic buffoon with no remarkable political skills. Teddy, OTOH, is crafty, strategic, and, as evidenced by his speech last night, intent on turning the US into a theocracy, with himself as High Priest. Though his speech was aimed at the evangelical Iowa base last night, I hope enough people without such a goal take heed, and cut him off at his knobby knees.

Might be time to start pulling out all the Cruz/Antichrist parallels. Or just pointing out his utter lack of any Christian virtues.

    30
  31. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Lunargent, I’m hoping the snacilbupeR Iowa results are an aberration. My suspicion is that Pervangelist Sr. was out stumping from pulpit to pulpit for Pervangelist, Jr. That may play in Iowa, but let’s hope the other 49 states are sufficiently offended to tar & feather that pair and run them out of town.

    31
  32. Marge Wood says:

I had a great uncle once who got tarred and feathered just for telling the truth. He didn’t like war.

    32
  33. Linda Phipps says:

I had a grandfather who was court-martialed out of the reserves after WWI … he didn’t think he needed to attend practice or whatever. We are very proud of him.
