I Love Yew, Austin

November 21, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Ya know, Austin is the mecca of Texas liberalism, mainly because … Willie Nelson.

Mayor Steve Adler of Austin is in the unique position of having Governor Greg Abbott live in his city.  That mans he gets a chance to set a great example for the Governor.

When the world thinks of Austin, they think of coming here to have a great time. But they have learned that they will find help here, too, when they need it. When Katrina forced thousands to evacuate New Orleans, we welcomed them with open arms. When children fleeing gang violence in Central America massed on our southern border, many Austin groups rushed to help.

This is what great cities do. This is who we are. And when it comes to resettling Syrian refugees to Austin, this is what I think we should say: welcome.

We are, after all, the friendship state. It would be nice to live up to that.

Thanks to Elizabeth for the heads up.

The Grounds of The State Capital Building, Austin:
“It’s like a whole other country.”

    Seems to work.

Makes you wonder how it all works with the dregs of the repug party surrounded by young liberals. It’s like white blood cells surrounding a tumor. For the sake of the body, hopefully they will win.

How many times must President Obama roll up a newspaper to whack on the snouts of the RGA and Y’all Qaeda, before they comprehend what decency demands?

  6. Don’t be surprised if some Rethug cretin in the Senate tries to whip up some sort of legislation that denies any federal funding finding its way to Austin! It would be just like them! For now, good on you Austin!

Juanitajean, this is where I disagree with you, El Paso is the Mecca of Texas liberalism. If you want to win a statewide or federal race, you must run as a democrat. People always forget our west Texas town of El Paso.

  10. Aggieland Liz, normally I would agree that Cruz would be waving the biggest most offensive banner, but he has competition from other publicity hound Senators. Look at what David “Diaper” Vitter recently did with a bill that would have denied federal funding to any city claiming to be a “sanctuary” city. That piece of batcrap paper got shot down by the Democrats. And now so has Vitter. He lost his race for governor in Louisiana and has announced his retirement from the Senate. He will not run for another term.
