Texas Hero, Whoa Wait

November 17, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Texas Republican State Representative (you’re cringing already, aren’t you?) Tony Dale, who is just about as conservative as they come, has been hollering about allowing Syrian refugees into Texas. He, of course, is against it.

So he put a poll on his Twitter feed to hear from his constituents.

He had to quickly shut it down.

Yeah, well, he doesn’t care what you think anyway.

Thanks to Harold for the heads up on Facebook.

Whoa, Wait —

He says he’s against them coming for an entirely different reason.

In a letter to Texas lawmakers, State Representative Tony Dale (R-Cedar Park) argued that the state should not accept any Syrian refugees because its lax gun-purchasing regulations would make it easy for any terrorists hiding among them to acquire a weapon and carry out an attack.

That makes my head hurt. Republicans believe that Texas needs lax gun purchasing regulations but agree that makes it easier for terrorists (and murderers and crooks) to get guns.

That makes my damn head hurt.

Thanks to Brian C for the heads up.

For the ilk that screams about “politicizing” the issue of gun safety every time someone offers a policy idea after a mass shooting, they sure are doing a good job of politicizing the mass shooting in Paris.

I hope Tony Dale’s constituents vote at the polls the way they voted on this poll, and we’d be out one idiot in the Lege. Long way to go, but it’s a start.

  3. Logic and the Republican mindset are incompatible.

    3
  4. The rePUKEians could care less about the ISIS and isLame movement, they are against ALL immigration. As most immigrates realize right off what a bunch of aholes the rePUKEians are and vote democrat!!!

    4
  5. Dale, and his little mickey mouse job as a state representative – wow, am I impressed – typically has let his mouth run away from a shallow brain.

    5
  6. To quote Juanita herownself, “Hypocrisy should be painful.”

    6
  7. I don’t understand Tony’s concern- since guns are so cheap and easy to get that everyone should have one seems he would know that all those good guys with a gun would be more than a match for any terrorist.

Next Ted Cruz will push for legislation that guns can only be bought by white, verified Christian males with a reference from their preacher. But no background check.

  8. Keeping his cake intact but he’s eating it, too!!! Laughed so hard my nose started running!

  9. TruelyTexan says:

I guess that goes with their policy of: a white guy walking down the street with a gun means “FREEDOM!”, but a black guy walking down the street with or without a gun can be shot without consequence.
These people are morons and dangerous. They need to be stopped at all costs. It is a simple thing to root out the terrorists. Check the voting polls, flag the rethugs, and deport them all to the center of the Pacific ocean. Let them take their guns so they feel safe…and sink faster.

Be afraid, be very afraid; or, at least stock up on head ache relief and alcohol. Every crazy snacilbupeR has weighed in on the topic, except Loopy Louie. He’s been relatively silent of late, so expect a major blow out from the craziest critter in Congress.

    11
  12. Dangerously close to the classic definition of chutzpah.

    12
  13. Note to Tony: Some terrorists are white and were born in the US. Surprise, surprise, surprise!

    13
  14. Linda Phipps says:

I liked his phrasing, “US and Texas” like they are separate entities…. oh, yeah …

    14
  15. I’m waiting for the Republicans to start agitating for gun ownership laws mirrored on their favored voter registration restrictions. As TruelyTexan notes, they don’t want any of THOSE people armed…

  18. Sounds like a real conundrum.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
The Clash sang a sound in the early 80’s with the lyrics “…should I stay or should I go, if I don’t it will be trouble if I do it will be double”.

    18
  19. So now it finally hits home: too many guns make life more dangerous, not safer as the ammosexuals espouse. Duh!
The bullets have come home to roost.

    19
  20. Crooks and Liars are reporting ” A State Department spokesman says that so-called “military-age males” unattached to families make up just two percent of Syrian refugees admitted to date to the United States.

    http://crooksandliars.com/2015/11/state-department-only-2-percent-syrian

Sounds like a fairly easy vetting process to me.

    20
  21. Tony Dale must have read this headline in the Washington Post:

From 2004 to 2014, over 2,000 terror suspects legally purchased guns in the United States

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/11/16/why-the-nra-opposed-laws-to-prevent-suspected-terrorists-from-buying-guns/

    21
  22. If 2000 terrorists can legally purchase guns, doesn’t that seem to indicate a flaw in the gun laws? Does the NRA condone 2nd Amendment rights for terrorists?

    22
  23. Thanks e platypus.
Lots to read, even more to think about.

Here’s a question I’d like to see asked at the next Republican debate:

“Given that existing laws have allowed over 2000 terrorists to legally purchase guns and rifles over the past few years, do you think…”

    24
  24. I got nothing serious to add.

When I saw his name I did wonder momentarily if he was somehow related to surf guitarist, the great Dick Dale. I guess not.

Good night. Have a safe drive home.

    25
  25. TruelyTexan, you had the best comment. I especially liked the part about “weighted down with their guns.” Let’s send them to the middle of the Pacific Ocean with the contents they hide from mom in the back of their closet. Porn pictures, movies and inflatable dolls don’t float, do they? Oops. The dolls! Oh wait. He’s probably “poked a hole in em” already.

Wingnuts entire campaign will be based on fears of Muslims and Sharia Law in America because they are taking over with Obama’s help. If you don’t agree with wingnuts, you hate ‘murrica and the terrorists win.

    27
  27. e platypus onion says:

Let’s compromise-deport wingnuts to the middle of the ocean, but leave the guns so we can burn them in effigy. Send the wingnuts towards Bikini Islands, they are prolly still contaminated with nukular fallout from early atomic bomb tests.

    28
  28. Micr comment reminds me of the appearance of Dick Dale and legendary Texan Stevie Ray Vaughan in the legendary movie, “Back to the Beach”!!!

    29
  29. JAKvirginia says:

Some clever person here came up with snacilbupeR because they’re ass-backwards. Maybe it’s time to do that with Texas. Anyone for saxeT?

    30
  30. e platypus, you remind me to dust off this one:

“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to do the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and for exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”
—- Hermann Goering, Nuremberg Trial, 1946

    31
  31. @TheoLib

    Wellll semi-legendary at least!

    32
  32. Another quote from Goering: “We could not have done it without the radio.” Makes you think about a certain news organization doesn’t it?

    33
  33. TruelyTexan says:

I wonder if it is lost on them that the militia groups the NRA supports are no different from the terrorists from other countries. White, kkkristians training in compounds to overthrow the government is a Constitutional right. Brown, non-xtians doing the same are terrorists. So brown people can’t buy guns, just in case. Militias can buy all the guns they want, because FREEDOM!

Excellent post in describing the ramping up the fear dumped out of the Regressive Republican right! If the Repubs didn’t have fear to spread they’s have nothing else except their lying to rely votes and money!
