Really, MSNBC?
From the MSNBC website —
What Ben Carson doing?
Well, obviously, he’s showing you the size of a fish he caught.
Hint: If Ben doesn’t know what he’s doing, an he doesn’t, then body else does either.
Better question: what the hell is MSNBC doing?
Opens mouth and stupid pores out! And the horrifying part is he’s #2 and #1 sounds even more insane, and there are a lot of people who thing these guys are brilliant!!!
1Mental Ben with the hypnotic voice talking in tongues. Have known a few wingnut 7th Days, but Ben is way out there even by their standards.
Meanwhile, T-Rump has his kids pimping for pimp dog daddy. Silly poster children for raising the ‘Death Tax,’ place the truly odious in “white privilege.” Chelsea is friends with Ivanka (way TMI) and a serious hit to any previous respect I had for Chelsea.
MSNBC? They are expanding ‘Morning Joke,’ so expectations of any news are beyond low. Under the please tell me it ain’t so banner, please tell me I heard incorrectly that Wolf Blitzer will be the moderator for the next democratic debate.
2In that image, Carson is describing the gap between his grasp of public policy, and the grasp of public policy one needs to be a serious candidate for president.
3Just watch. In the not too distant future MSNBC will cop out with “we were bullied!” Seriously??????
4@BraxtonBraggart, if Yao Ming’s knuckles hit the ground when he was standing upright, his reach wouldn’t be far enough to illustrate that gap.
Reminds me– back about 2012, there was a foreign (Japanese?) ad for some sort of OTC birth control device illustrated by photos of smiling Michelle Obama holding her hands about yay far apart, and Mrs. Romney holding her finger and thumb about two inches apart. If Mama doesn’t know what Durex sells, I think that was the product.
5P.S. Michelle Obama looked a lot happier in the ad photos than Mrs. Romney.
6Morning Joke of the Dead Intern pubs him some Donald and Jebus.
7I am all for informing the electorate, but it sure looks like the Powers-That-Be are pushing for tRump; just look at all the free ink/electrons he gets all the time.
8You’re all wrong, he’s telling everyone how much empty space is in his head.
9If you want journalism, don’t go to the MSM. They’re all graduates of the “Entertainment Tonight” school. Someone on the web commented that if it wasn’t for independent websites he wouldn’t get the real news. It’s become all fluff and puff and ratings numbers. Sad. Really sad.
And, really, who cares what Mental Ben is doing?
10Remember Christie’s Bridgegate? MSNBC didn’t do anything else but talk about that for over a month. Maher had Rachel on his show and told her to knock it off because it had gotten so boring.
11And then there’s NBC, who essentially banned Trump, but what’s this I see? SNL has scheduled him to HOST????? WTF?
12You know, TV has to be ON all the time. If they only had to report what was actually going on that was of interest, the choices wouldn’t be so horrible. TV could be on, say from 4 to 8 pm. then turn it off. All this above is reason enough to NOT watch TV.
13I’ve noticed that MSNBC has been giving a lot more time to republicans lately than the time they give to democrats. They have fired the best news hosts and have turned into CNN lite. I hate the new slant they are selling and am looking elsewhere.
14Our local paper talks way too much about the GOP candidates. Some of us have written letters to them and complained. They do these huge spreads on people like Cruz and his papa, but when the Democratic debate came along, they had a photo about 3×5 inches with some banal comment. No huge analytical articles or anything. Well, maybe i missed something, but we all need to call and email and comment on FB pages for the media.
15MSNBC ratings are so bad, they are going conservative. They will never win over Fox people.
When the heck did candidates start dictating debate.rules.
I long for the good old as when the LWV did the debates.
16The new head honcho of MSNBC wants it to be more “party neutral” (straight news), but they seem to have gone overboard toward the Republicans. Trump is getting so much free publicity he hasn’t had to spend much money. If things get slow for him, he just makes some nasty comments about someone.
17The Republican primary is pure reality tv, much like Survivor or some show where contestants have to eat bugs.
18@Gindy51 … yes, that was my thought, too! This be how much airspace I have in my head … yuck, yuck, yuck!!
People are contacting the powers that be to cancel their invite to t-Rump’s SNL hosting shot. If he goes on, I hope they make mincemeat out of his ugly ass!! Of course, if they cancel, he’ll be saying he quit on his own and go around saying what loooooosers they are at SNL.
19He’s trying to describe that REALLY big box of fried chicken (Mild, of course) he was ordering from the Popeye’s “organization” when he threw that guy behind the counter under the bus.
20Calm DOWN! Please calm down. There is a strain in Progressivism — and it’s been there going back at least to the early Sixties of my own knowledge — that loves to play Chicken Little and always see the sky about to fall on them. Sometimes — admittedly with more reason — they sound almost as paranoid as the average rightwinger.
No, MSNBC is not turning into CNN. (They may be adding a few more centrists or center left people, and giving the Village Idiot — Chuck Todd — more time, but that might even help them get a Progressive message out. Far less excuse to dismiss them — unfair, untruthful, and unavoidable — as a “Left Wing equivalent of FOX.”)
As for their coverage of Trump, he’s news and let’s face it, he’s fun to mock. I’d be more worried if the station had the lowest coverage of the three. Yes, he’s getting a lot of free publicity, but his whole campaign has been run on the idea that ‘If I make the news and comedy shows enough, I don’t have to spend money on ads.”
The chart sounds interesting, or it would have been if the mentions of “Carson” and “Sanders” were included — or if the labels were clearer — were they just counting the mentions of the two words, or actual references to the candidates, under whatever name (Hillary, The Donald, or various ‘orange’ references). After all, probably more people use ‘Hillary” than “Clinton” to keep the two apart.
Progressives like to ‘suddenly discover’ the media is stacked against us. Yeah, it is — and it always has been. Radio has been the home of the right wing from the beginning. Newspapers have become much more centrist than they were fifty or sixty years ago — read up on what Hearst, Bertie McCormick or the Chandler family used to be like, even read some in a library, and you’d find them far worse than most big city papers are today. (Or listen to Phil Ochs’ song — and realize that when he wrote it, the Daily NEWS was that awful — and was dead in the middle of the seven NY dailies. with the JOURNAL-AMERICAN, the WORLD-TELEGRAM&SUN and the Daily MIRROR actually much worse.)
There has never been a big city paper that was anything more than centrist and has lasted long — except maybe the NEW YORK POST (Yep, once at least somewhat and eccentrically Progressive.)
I had been worried about the imbalance of the news media — and the failure, in many ways, of blogs to fill the void. But, surprisingly, the strongest progressivism in any news site seems to be the continually updating of stories on the computer in Windows 10 (or even 8). Even if you set your preferences for the Conservative side, (I imagine, never tried it) you still get ‘straight news stories’ from Reuters, the AP. AFP, and places like Vox, Salon and Slate — I didn’t even know about Vox until my wife, who is the first at the main computer/tv, showed me stories from there.
And remember, and relax, because it is true that “Reality has a liberal bias.
21I saw on the news elsewhere that Clinton, Trump, and Carson are being given Secret Service protection. Um…why not Sanders? If you’re spending my money to protect the top two candidates in a party I would just as soon not protect, why not the top two in a party I want to win? At least my tax dollars aren’t going to protect a Bush.
22Prup (aka Jim Benton), relax if you wish. I see no reason to “relax” while media, including the internet, is one huge monopoly.
It’s true that “reality has a liberal bias.” However, that fact is rendered weak, when (thank you Jon Stewart) the chaos on bullshit mountain is what airs 24/7.
The phenomena is similar to a GOP invasion plan with the mission creep in Afghanistan and Iraq. Two hours of killer Morning Joke should never have been, now it’s 3 hours. Added to that is the tool Chuck Todd creeping across the airwaves. True, I can elect not to watch and I do so, but what about the low information voters absorbing the chaos from BS Mountain. So yes, I see this as a problem and I am not ready to relax and forget about it.
23Elizabeth Moon, not sure about your source on the security arrangements. Last I knew, T-Rump had his ownprivate security. Sec/Sen Clinton has a SS detail as normal with being a former FLOTUS. As a sitting Senator, Senator Sanders could request a detail.
24Caption: “Mine is way bigger than Trump’s.”
25Yes, well, when JJ is right, she’s right.
I watch MSNBC every weeknight and I’m here to tell you they do obsess over Trump. Especially Chris Hayes. That man in on one hell of a tear about Trump.
I’ve gotten to the point when I just mute the TV when Trump comes on the screen and wait till the squall has blown itself out. I’m not saying he’s NOT a Democratic shill throwing the election to Clinton – – and I’m not saying he is. The jury is out on that one.
What I am saying is that I can feel brain cells withering up and dying any time I actually listen to what he’s saying. So I don’t.
26Most Americans of any party affiliation believe that money corrupting politics is one of the biggest problems today, if not THE biggest. In contrast…
MSM loves Citizens United. Both the DNC and the RNC love Citizens United. CNN loves Citizens United, and proved it in how they handled the Democratic Debate, by not allowing Lessig to participate and by not asking any questions about money’s corrupting influence on politics. (The only debate participant who spoke about it was Bernie Sanders.)
We all understand that Citizens United unleashed the floodgates for billionaires to buy elections. But here’s the next step that too few are talking about (except Cenk on TYT): WHERE DOES THAT MONEY GO?
Most of it will buy tv ads.
Thanks to Citizens United, hundreds of millions of dollars more is flowing into the coffers of CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc. Broadcasting companies are owned by the corporate oligarchy, which reaps in the money spent by the Kochs, casino moguls, and anyone else pouring money into elections.
Speaking of corruption: In the minutes after the dem debate, CNN’s own poll had Bernie winning by 80% and Clinton trailing at 15%. Juxtaposed next to CNN’s headline of “Clinton Wins!” that was embarrassing, so CNN took the poll down, but not before people grabbed screenshots to prove it had happened. CNN is owned by Time Warner which is one of the largest donors to Clinton’s campaign.
EVERY poll of people who actually watched the debate identified Bernie as the winner, by huge margins. So… MSM is drowning out those polls with NEW “more scientific” polls, which ask people who won the debate — but in these polls, the overwhelming majority of people polled did not watch the debate themselves, their response is based on watching news clips and pundits talk about the debate. And, surprise-surprise, people whose opinion of the debate is based on news coverage of it afterwards… have opinions that line up with what the corporate oligarchy’s henchmen-pundits told them what to think (Clinton won!”). Who’da thunk.
No one is surprised when Republicans pull such dirty tricks. But the Democratic Party is supposed to stand for… well, DEMOCRACY, dammit.
For perspective on what is happening right now within the Dem party, watch the end of the last season of THE WEST WING. See Jimmie Smits’ character be dismissed by the Dem establishment, which only wants to push its own establishment candidate. Watch again that wonderful speech that Smits’ character gives at the Dem Convention, in which he urges delegates to vote for WHO THEY WANT TO VOTE FOR, rather than who they are told to vote for. Because… “We are the DEMOCRATIC party.”
If we allow the DNC to collude with the MSM to rig the Dem primaries this way, we do not deserve to call ourselves Democrats.
27feel free to delete the second two posts — obviously an error, sorry.
