Yeah, But They Still Have Kim Davis
Republicans are throwing in the towel in the Governor’s race in Kentucky, even with all that free advertising from Kim Davis, Ted Cruz, and Mike Huckabee.
The Republican Governor’s Association has stopped running TV ads for Matt Bevin with a little more than a month to go in Kentucky’s competitive governor’s race.
The association has spent $3 million on six ads for Bevin, mostly attacking his Democratic opponent, Jack Conway, for supporting the policies of Democratic President Barack Obama. But with two other governor’s races this fall RGA spokesman Jon Thompson said the group is “re-evaluating what is best for us to do.”
After spending a million dollars of his own money to win a 4-way primary, I bet his wife and kids are hacked off. “Oh no, we can’t go to Europe this summer because Dad played Republican Roulette and lost.”
Last year, Democrat Jack Conway, who is currently the Attorney General of Kentucky, refuse to appeal the federal judge’s decision on gay marriage.
By appealing, he said, he would be defending discrimination “and that I will not do.”
Conway said he had prayed on the decision and felt he is doing what is right. He said that he was sworn to defend both the constitutions of Kentucky and the United States.
People thought he had pretty much written off his political career by doing that, but apparently people are sick to death of Kim Davis and her buttload of hate. Even in Kentucky.
So let’s take up a collection and and send Kim, Mike, and Ted on a countrywide tour.
The chickens haven’t hatched yet. Given the Republicans’ previous success at sekrit doings that get their guy elected anyway, I wouldn’t call Conway a shoo-in just yet. I’m glad, of course, that the Republicans are pulling support from their guy, if the reason is that they think he’s going to lose for sure…but what if they’ve got a dark horse in blinkers in the next stall?
I’d be happy–very happy–to be proven wrong and have Conway win by a 95-5 percentage.
1Always nice when the haters slink out of town… as long as they stay slunk, as Elizabeth Moon says.
Can we start hoping that people are getting fed up with that big old flapping right wing?
2Write off Kim Davis in basketball heaven??? NNNnnnooooooo. They just haven’t got enough cash to build a statue.
The Democrats have been running some ads showing Bevins talking about two sides of lots of issues, and ads talking about all his tax cheating. They seem effective to me.
Ms. Moon is correct. It aint over until . . . (Miss you Yogi)
3Jack Conway is a Kentuckian with the guts and integrity to speak up for his beliefs while, unlike Kim Davis, fulfilling his official responsibilities according to law. It’s worth watching what he said a year and a half ago.

Unlike his dimwitted counterparts in Indiana and Wisconsin, who made themselves legal laughingstocks, Conway had the intelligence not to pursue the case at the appellate level. Appellate Judge Richard Posner’s Chicago court slapdown of Indiana and Wisconsin is legendary and deserves one more reference at these links:

4The only way I’d send money for a Kim, Mike, and Ted countrywide tour is if the money came from someone I hated and if the country was Somalia. Oh wait, in that case I might have to turn in my penny jar and give them the proceeds, if they promise not to come back.

6I’m with ya. I’d donate to buy Raphael Cruz a ticket to N Korea, Syria, or Somalia. One way of course.
I’d vote for Somalia. They seem to like the idea of no government.
7I got nothing to contribute to Davis…… for anything.
Just hopin’ Kentucky is saying “enough is enough”…. and Bevins wins.
8Y’all know I meant Conway wins.
9Please have the tour skip NY state.
10We don’t want them.
We don’t want them here in Austin either. But Somalia, Syria and N. Korea have enough problems without us exporting our bona fide certifiables.
11I’ll say it again cuz I haven’t fallen asleep yet: Kimmypoo, somewhere there is a dictionary with the term over saturation in it. Be a good idea if you look it up. Once you have hit the max with over saturation, the trip down is sudden and damn quick.
12In Kentucky there seem to be noises that Bevin is behaving like a rich deadbeat, and the reason that the RGA cut off his allowance was to get him to pony up more of his own cash for his campaign. The race is reported to be tight and the big ad campaigns will kick off in a couple weeks, leading up to the election. In this scenario, it’s premature to think Bevin is losing or that the national Republicans have truly abandoned him. Conway doesn’t have Bevin’s kind of bank account and has been aggressively fundraising, but he may need more help.
