Fun With Guns: But, Honey, But, But, But …. Edition
Let’s mosey on over to Virginia this morning to check out the emergency room.
The 53-year-old woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening gunshot to the face. Her husband, 55-year-old Lewis Powell was arrested and charged with reckless handling of a firearm.
Well, his story is that it was accidental. He probably doesn’t remember though.
Police said their investigation revealed both husband and wife had been drinking and had both handled the firearm.
Ah, everybody’s favorite game – vodka roulette.
See my name. Yes, I am ashamed. But Virinia is for lovers, y’know. Says so on the license plates. Lovers of guns. Lovers of booze. Lovers of guns with booze. I am so ashamed.
1Edit: That’s Virginia, not Virinia. Stupid phone.
2Nothing says “Love you!” like a gunshot to the face.
3Guns & booze – a great combination.
4More mouth breathers placing the ooze in st00pid. There are a number of nice mixers for alcohol; some like ginger ale, others prefer fruit juices or water, or simply neat. Only idiots prefer guns, cars, mechanized vehicles like some boats, jet skis and the like with their libations.
Simple rules to live by: #1 Clean your guns, then enjoy that cold beer/drink. #2 Know your weapon, ie fired 4 rounds, should be 2 remaining in a six shooter. #3 It’s not ‘impossible’ to know when a weapon is safely unloaded.
Amplifying on point #3, which is why I vote for safety legislation limiting “clips” and “magazines.” Ammosexuals have proven they cannot count to six or even two, therefore why should anyone expect them to handle ammunition capacity beyond the number of their remaining toes and fingers?
5Whatever happened to simpler past-times such as shooting craps instead of somebody else?
I bet this is not the first time this old boy has seen the inside of a jail.
6@pkm
And the unloaded part is so easy: I am holding the 1911 in my left hand, slide back and locked. I am holding the magazine in my right hand. For that MOMENT the 1911 is unloaded.
7Micr-does thou rub garlic on bullets to kill by infection as gangsters used to do for the 1911 and the “tommygun?”
8Micr, yes, but YOU know your weapon(s). And, obviously, the benefits of locks and other safety devices. That big “if” as in only if everyone were as responsible/knowledgeable. I’ll give this to the NRA, “most” people are responsible. Where the NRA fails is that they do not address those who are not responsible and/or have other limited functions that should make them ineligible for gun ownership.
That the Second Amendment is overriding the “pursuit of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” as well as common sense is beyond troubling. For example, take domestic abusers; would it really violate their rights to temporarily remove their arsenals, until due process has taken its course? If shown innocent, they get back their weapons. Guilty, then they lose the right to bear arms.

As always you make good points.
When my little bride and I shared our end of life decisions with our kids, I told the executor/child, if it comes to pass that and I am not safe driving and your sainted mother is already gone, you need to take my car keys. And when you do, take the handguns as well.
10@mike from iowa
First off I have never heard the “rub with garlic” idea so I’m afraid to make a comment.
Second, my 1911 is loaded with 230 grain jacketed hollow points. If I am forced to fire a round or 3, I want to achieve results faster than is afforded by waiting on an infection.
11Hint: They were doing it wrong.
When playing roulette with a gun, one is supposed to point it at one’s own head. Or face. Or whatever body part strikes one’s fancy. Pointing it at someone else is considered Not According to Hoyle. And gauche, too.
Either learn the rules or don’t play.
12Am still gob smacked at the 70+ year old man who shot & killed his wife because he thought she hid his tithing money
http://viewerscorner.com/2015/09/03/norman-mckinney-of-erwin-tennessee-shot-his-wife-over-church-tithe-money/
and the hideous headlines about a cop who – point blank – shot a partner/fellow cop 9 times during a drug sting. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/09/02/trigger-happy-cop-shot-one-of-his-own-and-kept-blasting-away.html
13Twenty or so years ago there was a murder case in which the defendant testified that he did not intend to shoot his wife, but, as he was cleaning his gun, it accidentally fired. On cross-examination the prosecutor inquired about the second bullet wound, and the defendant explained that, realizing his first shot had left his wife in a vegetative state, he had concluded the kindest thing he could do was finish her off. Neither the jury nor the Fort Worth Court of Appeals found his explanation persuasive.
14Truly a marriage made in heaven–not referring to the alcohol and guns part, just the brilliant couple who mixed the two.
15A gun shop in Florida has created a weapon expressly for Christian terrorists. He doesn’t say that explicitly, but these are the trigger settings:
Peace, War and God Wills It.
The AR15 is named “The Crusader.” It has bible verses on it so he thinks any Muslim who picks it up might be struck down by a bolt of lightning. The whole thing is soooo messed up!

16@augie. The Albuquerque police ran out of unarmed homeless black men, so they had to shoot another cop.
17Looks like some genes escaped the pool!
18Perhaps the guy was trying to launch his literary career. I live just down the street from where William S. Burroughs shot his wife while “playing William Tell” and look what that got him (besides deported from Mexico, that is).
