The Sanctity of Marriage
Kim Davis, the county clerk in Kentucky who is refusing to follow the ruling of the Supreme Court of the United States of Damn America, is living testimony to the sanctity of marriage.
In Rowan County, Kentucky, clerk Kim Davis, who has been married four times, has been under fire for refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples because of her religious beliefs.
Look, I am totally opposed to slut shaming. I think women have a right to be sexy. But, hell, this woman is the Whore of Babylon.
Either she’s real good at marriage or real bad at it. Either way, she ain’t the best person to be rubbing the Bible in my face.
And now her latest husband is threatening people. He claims they’ve been getting harassing phone calls. The future Ex Mr. Wonderful says …
But he says he’s not afraid, and he believes in the Second Amendment. He said: “I’m an old redneck hillbilly, that’s all I’ve got to say. Don’t come knocking on my door.”
You would think that if there’s any man who would welcome a bunch of gay men to town, it would be him, but no…
Joe Davis compared his wife to the biblical figures Paul and Silas, sent to prison and rescued by God. He pointed to the gay rights protesters gathered on the courthouse lawn and said: “They want us to accept their beliefs and their ways. But they won’t accept our beliefs and our ways.”
Quick, somebody explain to him that the gay people believe in his right to be married four times.
I have friends who are insisting that Kim is going to be the next Joe The Plumber.

Sorry, but having been married four times does not quite fit the biblical definition of marriage. So if Mrs. Davis doesn’t fit, and received 4 pieces of paper saying she was LEGALLY married, who is she to decide that other couples who don’t fit her narrow biblical definition can’t also get their piece of paper. She should be fired today for not doing the job she was hired to do. TODAY!

The logic of this is fascinating. He is straight out saying that other people are required to accept his beliefs, but he has the right to refuse to accept theirs. Guess he must be really special.
Odd that the notion of simply applying his beliefs to his own personal life and letting other people do the same with their beliefs and lives is not an option.

Based on her marital example, Kim should not be denying marriage licenses to anyone. Instead, maybe she should be offering a 2/4 discount package: pay for two licenses and receive the next two free.

27She can believe whatever she wants, and she’s not being “persecuted” for what she believes…but for not (wait I can’t say that, sorry JJ’s Momma) not, um, either doing her job or quitting her job.
That’s the choice of an honorable person, including an honorable Christian (yes, there are some) whose job requires them to do something they think is wrong. You don’t keep a job and fail to do the job.
She needs to be thrown out of her job. And it needs to be made clear that it’s not because she believed gay marriage was wrong, but because she failed to do her duty. If, as here, county clerks take an oath of office, she broke her oath. Someone who needs a job and will do it should be in her place.
28Just as one’s right to swing one’s fist stops when you start getting close to my face, one’s right to practice one’s religion stops short of denying others their rights to their own personal beliefs.
Laws making it illegal to burn heretics at the stake do indeed infringe upon the religious beliefs of the folks with the torches – but they also strike a reasonable balance between the rights of all concerned. One wonders whether a county clerk stating that henceforth only Muslims could get marriage licenses would receive sympathetic coverage on Fox News. I’m guessing no…

A few years ago I drove my cousin to the bankruptcy court so he could complete his bankruptcy case. In the course of that case he and his counsel irritated the Honorable with their reluctance to do as the Judge suggested. Over a few days things rocked along and out of the blue, the Honorable “invited” the counsel to his chambers for a meeting at 8:30am one morning and my cuz at 9pm. My cuz carped about it, of course. I told my little bride I felt the stirrings of a judicial a$$ chewing in the air. Sure enough. Counsel came into court from his time in chambers quite the contrite fellow. His honor came in a few minutes later. No recruit in any boot camp came to attention quicker than counsel, dragging cuz to his feet as well. His honor didn’t call anyone names, but the air was thick and he talked non-stop for 15 minutes. He made promises involving US Marshals and writs of attachment. Counsel and cuz slunk out of court. I understand cuz thereafter kept every appointment before moving to New Mexico. I’ve never laid eyes on counsel since.
34Freedom of religion is a new slippery slope, I guess. For crying out loud, where in the name of Aunt Fannie’s britches is the intelligence, the common sense, the understanding of the Constitution, and the respect for others up to and including the Supreme Court and the law of the land. This woman needs to go to jail . . . . and now! Her right to the freedom to worship whatever god she chooses in whatever church she chooses and to live her personal life by her own beliefs stops abruptly at the point where her employment as an elected or hired public servant begins. This is not a theocracy. God’s law is a personal choice, not the law of the land, and those who would choose to put what they call “God’s law” above the legal system that governs our country are a threat to everyone else.
35Let’s add some more schadenfreude to this circus…..not only is she a serial divorcée, but she’s also an adulteress. From the NY Times:
“She gave birth to twins five months after she divorced her first husband. The father of those twins was her third husband, according to the records.
Her second husband adopted the twins, the news magazine said.”

39Brett at 37 – I heard the same story on MSNBC yesterday evening. It was told by a nice man who is active on LGBT matters. I’ve seen him on TV a number of times, but can’t remember his name.
Sure, she’s one of god’s very special, chosen people.
40I read some place that she was 5 months pregnant when he left her first husband and got divorced and married husband 2 who was father of the kids she was pregnant with and then she divorced him married twice after that..yeah, there’s a good Christian for you.
