But He Is Not A Racist
Okay, I’m gonna take you all the way to Washington State to find this doozy.
The mayor of a small city in Washington reportedly admitted that he called President Barack Obama “monkey man” and first lady Michelle Obama “gorilla face,” but says he will not resign over the racist comments.
He says he’s not racist so he’s not going to resign as mayor.
He also told local NBC station KHQ that the comments were just “playful back and forth banter that my friends and I do.”
But he’s not racist.
The newspaper found what it said were at least 75 posts and reposts, including an image that suggests both the president and his wife should “hang for treason.”
Not racist. Not. Racist.
In some posts, Rushing also claims to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
See, not racist.
And neither are these people.
Thanks to Mike for the heads up.
I am soooo tired of ignorant, racist hicks.. let’s just deport the next one that flies the flag of treason or disrespects our lovely First Family with racist comments. They are not fit to be citizens of our nation.
1Enough.
Just…. Enough.
This guy IS a racist, and if his constituency cares, then it is their DUTY to teach him a lesson. Grown ups have to own their words. Always.
If this Bozo doesn’t represent the majority community then he should leave office.
2As for the flag wavers, where’s the rest of their uniform???
(You know, the pointy hats…)
3I hope you clicked through on this. The collection of tweets is almost a history of racist attacks on the Obamas — with the Mayor especially fixed on the First Lady. The claim that he is not racist is ridiculous.
On the other hand — and I wish sometimes I didn’t have to say this — he has every right to be one. The citizens should vote him out, the local businesses should threaten him with their pulling out if he doesn’t resign, etc. Those are legitimate private actions.
But Brian’s comment is ill-thought (or he’s a troll hoping someone will support him so he can show — he thinks — that we only believe in freedom of speech for those we agree with). That ‘First Amendment Thing’ makes such an action as illegal as it would be unwise. Thank the deity of your choice (mine’s Kroo, but it would take a fan of obscure Henry Kuttner stories to know Him) that we have it, as annoying as it can be.
4@Old Fart, I think his city council voted unanimously for him to resign, but the unrepentant racist refused. Don’t know what their next step will be, but just goes to show you that he doesn’t represent all of his community. Maybe they can present him with a nice white uniform with a pointy hat…
5What happened to “love it, or leave it”, like they yelled at us for protesting bush’s wars?
6As a 60 year old white guy, born in the south, raised by a mother and grandmother who worked side by side with blacks in a Charlotte, NC laundry; I say this sorry cracker is a racist. I don’t really give a good GD what he thinks he is. Sorry for the language Mama.
7I know we live in a mobile society, but what connection does Oklahoma have to the treason of the 1861-1865 rebellion and therefore to their flags? Please help me understand. Otherwise all these people can be are stupid, disgruntled losers, flirting today with treason.
8I hope the city council finds a way to fire him, he sounds like an a-hole, per wikipedia: …an earlier incident in 2015 in which Rushing resigned his position as a school bus driver after an incident in which he was charged with a misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.
Airway Heights claim to fame is a corrections facility, a casino, a wal-mart supercenter, a racetrack and a mayor who is a racist douchebag.
9For some reason Airway Heights’ website is unavailable.
If you want to confirm that go to
http://www.cawh.org/default.asp
I wanted to go to the website in hopes of finding an email link so that I could encourage Mayor Rushing to do the right thing and resign.
10You can’t fix stupid.
11Well, he’s not a racist if you redefine what the word “racist” means. And redefining words (and rewriting the Bible and the Constitution) is what wingnuts do best. It’s the only way they ever ‘win’ any arguments.
12Being a native of that region, I would so like this to have occurred in Oklahoma!
13If the city council voted unanimously for him to resign and he wouldn’t, I suggest they treat him as a nonperson. Nobody listens when he talks, nobody looks at him, maybe somebody sits in the chair he’s already sitting in, that sort of thing.
Well, maybe they could acknowledge him once, by all standing and mooning him when he walks into the room.
Our city council elects one of their own as mayor — always, as far as I know, the one who got the most votes for council — so they could just vote him out of the mayor’s job, at least. But nobody on our city council is nearly that big a glassbowl.
14The guy’s a bigot, no way around it. So is my brother. He explained to me that it isn’t racism when he says stuff like this about a specific individual he doesn’t like (yeah..he was talking about the President too). Brother went on to explain that it is only racism when they say stuff like that about someone without reason to dislike them or when referring to a whole race of people. Mama wouldn’t like me if I told yall what I said to him. It felt good to say it though.
15Rhea, I like your idea: pretend he isn’t there.
16Micr, you asked an interesting question; I knew that Oklahoma wasn’t a state during the Civil Way. Wikipedia says:
17In 1860, the Indian Territory had a population of 55,000 Indians, 8,400 black slaves owned by Indians, and 3000 whites. In 1861, as the American Civil War began, Texas forces moved north and the United States withdrew its military forces from the territory. Confederate Commissioner Albert Pike signed formal treaties of alliance with all the major tribes, and the territories sent a delegate to the Confederate Congress in Richmond. However, there were minority factions who opposed the Confederacy, with the result that a small-scale Civil War raged inside the territory. By summer 1863, Union forces controlled neighboring Arkansas, and Confederate hopes for retaining control of the territory collapsed.
Walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it’s a duck!
18He also told local NBC station KHQ that the comments were just “playful back and forth banter that my friends and I do.”
Please remind this animal that most children stop making doo doo comments like this by the time they reach puberty. Certainly prior to holding public office.
19Daily Kos has a link to the website for the town, it is provided in the comments there, I just wrote and voiced my disgust, I hope you all do too!
20Here, in Colorado Springs, we had a Sheriff who was so obviously using his position in inappropriate personal areas and so incompetent and divisive that our City Council asked for his resignation. He also refused. Easy solution, take all his responsibilities away from him and delegate to others. Let the maroon draw his salary until the end of his tenure with no influence nor voice whatsoever, especially in the financial areas.
21Origuy –
22Wow, Indians were slaveowners? I did not know that. They took captives, of course, but this sounds different.
Gee, what a fun bunch.
23If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck …
24Wisdom from a friend:
The truly superior have no need to make others feel inferior.
True that.
25It’s been my experience that if you have to tell people you’re not a racist, you probably are.
26Wow, what school is THAT drill team from?
27I think describing him and any of his friends and family members as less attractive animals would be entirely fair. Just jokin’, ya know. Just passing the time with friends. Why his wife’s pretty as a hyena, all those wrinkles around her eyes. And him…a scrawny ol’ stray dog with mange, lame in two legs and gimpy in the other others. Kind that fear-bites and then runs away yelping if you raise your hand.
28I live in Spokane, WA, and Airway Heights is the town I have to drive through to get to the dump that takes asbestos. Long strip of depressing highway business, run down and ugly. To add to their attractions listed above, they also have Fairchild Airforce base, that has somehow miraculously avoided closure over the years.
And the racetrack? Spokane County bought it from the polluting previous owners for several million, right before the WA Dept of Ecology issued a report on the ground water pollution that would have put the previous owners on the spot for all cleanup, bankrupting them. The sale went through in a series of shady backroom deals, including some how repressing publication of the DOE report for nearly a year, so the county could pretend to not know about it. Now the county tries to find contractors to operate the track, but they keep losing money. Enormous boondoggle. Locals call it smart business.
I’m afraid the local population is actually pretty fairly represented by the mayor’s views, tbe amount of knuckle dragging hatred I’ve seen out there is about on par with this guy. I suspect the City council only voted for him to resign due to attention from outside. Without the scrutiny, I think no councilmember would have thoght anything of it.
