Twitter Twits
So, when Republicans violate campaign laws, they prefer to do it right out in the open just because they freekin’ can.
Republicans and outside groups used anonymous Twitter accounts to share internal polling data ahead of the midterm elections, CNN has learned, a practice that raises questions about whether they violated campaign finance laws that prohibit coordination.
Well, call me an angel and stick me on top of a tree because I am here to tell you that there is absolutely no question whatsoever that it violated campaign finance laws.
Hell, you can get a secret decoder ring, send it by Morse code, talk in pig latin, or use Navajo code talkers, it’s still sharing data and information and that’s against the law.
The law says that outside groups, such as super PACs and non-profits, can spend freely on political causes as long as they don’t coordinate their plans with campaigns. Sharing costly internal polls in private, for instance, could signal to the campaign committees where to focus precious time and resources.
So, with a little twit wink, Republicans made Citizen’s United even more of a farce.
These are some damn creepy people, y’all.
It’s never illegal if you don’t get caught.
1And since corporations are people – Mittens insist on this — each one can be sued individually.
2IMHO this may be a near thing. If the Teahadists can sell the idea that tweets are like ads on commercial radio that can be heard by all those tuned to a particular frequency at a particular moment in time, then a judge might be persuaded to see that tweeting these results maybe is not the collusion the laws envisioned.
3I don’t think Navajo code talkers would work for R, no matter how bad conditions on the rez are.
4Is there no end to their effrontery? I am soul-sick over the results of the elections which proved that Americans are too lazy and stupid to stand up for their own interests.
5I have to say here that yes, that is disgusting and what we call Chutzpa in New York, but you think people are lazy? What about the ones who have to commute to work and work all day and go home to a house full of family and other responsibilities? I spend a lot of hours digging around for information. If you don’t dig and you don’t know what questions to ask and you depend on TV (I don’t watch it) and are sick of looking at computers and talking on the phone all day at work till you are brain dead and your newspaper has blaring headlines that put it pretty much at the same level as NATIONAL ENQUIRER and your mama and papa always voted one way or the other and your son has a job that depends on his being a Republican because that’s all he could get and was thankful for it, how’s he/she/you going to know all the facts?
6Oh, for folks in south Austin/Travis County, STUD is meeting tonight at 6ish pm at Brick Oven, Slaughter at Brodie.
