If You’re Going To Be A Crook, Be A Helluva Crook!

Alabama House Speaker Republican Mike Hubbard is a doozy. He got himself indicted on 23 counts. You can’t do that by accident. That kind of stuff has to be planned.

The highlights of some of his shenanigans.

Screen Shot 2014-10-21 at 8.51.58 AMFour counts of using of his office as Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party for personal gain;

One count of voting for legislation with a conflict of interest;

Eleven counts of soliciting or receiving a thing of value from a lobbyist or principal;

Two counts of using his office as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives for personal gain;

Four Counts of lobbying an executive department or agency for a fee;

One count of using state equipment, materials, etc. for private gain

Hey, but he was never indicted for coming to work smelling like he slept in a goat pen. No, wait, he as cavorting with lobbyists.  Same thing.

Thanks to everybody for the heads up.

  1. Lorraine in Spring says:

    I don’t get it. What’s the problem? Personal gain, conflict of interest? Isn’t that the whole reason why Republicans get into politics in the first place?

    Someone in Alabama must have accidentally read the state laws.

  2. All the republicans are on the teevee calling it ‘political’, because the indictment came down right before the election. The republicans have a supermajority in Alabama. Luther Strange, the Alabama Attorney General, has recused himself, because of his close friendship with Hubbard. (That recusal is the only thing that really surprised me). The republicans are in charge of everything political that moves in Alabama. So if it is ‘political’, republicans did it.

    Such a honest looking face!
    Make’s you wonder what else he’s hiding, in his walk-in closet?

  4. Relax everyone, this is just business as usual. I betcha this is just an old school Republican being gently pushed aside soes a true believer Teabagger can position to take his place. Cause honestly Teabaggers are about power and fame, not money. Or ARE they???

  5. Uncle Dave says:

    Lorraine nails it. Personal gain is as honorable a reason to chair the GOP as any other I can imagine, and Hubbard was taking money from republicans who would have misspent it, in any case.

  6. Glad to hear of the arrest and charges, but as Lorraine implied, what else is new. The whole lot of them should be arrested for misusing their offices and campaign funds and a whole lot more.
    Let’s see how he is treated if and when the verdict comes in.

  7. Rumors are hot and heavy that 21 others, from members of the legislature to lobbyists to the blogger who drops info for Speaker Hubbard, are on an indictment list.

  8. If he was never indicted for coming to work smelling like he slept in a goat pen, it’s probably because he was able to prove that his relationship with the goat was consensual.

  9. Tom DeLay was arrested and indicted, too. I’ll bet this scumbags never sees the inside of a jail. The fix is in for powerful repubs. Sam with good hair.

  10. “Same” as (Gov.) Good Hair Perry.

  11. Sounds sorta like a typical Repug to me. He must have really pissed off a fellow Repug.
