There’s Money in Them There Diseases
I will bet you $50. cash American money that Rick Perry has found a way to make money off ebola.
Texas Governor Rick Perry today announced he’s mobilizing a special task force to respond to Ebola and other infectious diseases. Dr. Brett Giroir of Texas A&M Health Science Center will oversee the 17 person task force which includes state officials from environmental, health, and public safety agencies.
Gov. Perry also called for the federal government to step up its screening of travelers coming from West Africa. He suggested using temperature monitors at airports and creating quarantine centers at ports of entry in the U.S.
Rick Perry doesn’t do diddle squat until he figures out a way for his friends to make money off it. I hope it fares better that the cancer research funds that he and Greg Abbott oversaw.
Okay, so here’s the deal. The only state with the risk of actually spreading ebola is Texas. Look at it this way: Texas 1, Mexico 0. So, I think Mexico needs to be worried, not us. Is the rest of the world going to quarantine us? Hell, I would not blame them one bit. We’re got some infectious contagious idiot in this damn state.
Thanks to Web for the heads up.
I’m not taking your bet, JJ. I can’t afford to lose $50.
Wow, I didn’t know about the cancer deal. That is pure evil. It smells horrible, too.
1The report I read sounded like Rick wanted every passenger coming off an international flight, and everybody in a vehicle who wanted to drive across from Mexico or Canada, to be checked for Ebola and maybe quarantined.
King Canute, meet ocean.
The difference between wisdom and ignorance is that wisdom has limits. This is what happens when the moron in charge doesn’t believe in science. Or mathematics, apparently.
2I’ve been in favor or quarantining Texas ever since I left. The only problem is that the ones who want to leave aren’t nearly as crazy as the ones who want to stay and vote Republican.
3Ebola, Benghazi, ISIL! Better we should look for a cure for Teabola, the st00pid disease that prevents us from feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, rebuilding our infrastructure and educational systems, providing universal health care, equality for all citizens, an end to disparate income inequality, providing solutions to global warming and a myriad of ecological issues or in three words: a bright future.
Governor Oops should not become too frisky just because the criminal Delay got a too special deal. Pull back your hand Rick. Elbow deep in the cookie jar is not a good look, when you are still under investigation.
4You reckon he has a cronie… in the thermometer biz? That’s a lot of thermometers. 🙂 Everybody…. coming in from overseas..???? thermometers in the thousands.
Hope that’s not another Aggie joke.
5I bet he’s thinking of the old fashioned mercury thermometers. Nowadays they stick something in your ear or wave something across your forehead. Those things are a lot expensive. And the only docs I know of these days who still use anal thermometers are veterinarians.
6The saddest thing about this debacle is (according to NPR) people who live anywhere that neighborhood are being refused jobs, service and who knows what else because of ignorance of how Ebola is spread.
7Airports are already using thermometers for screening, both on exit from Liberia (Mr. Duncan’s temperature was normal at all three checkpoints in Liberia and at the intermediate airports before arriving in Dallas.)
Ignorance about how Ebola spreads is fanned by FoxNews and buttheads like Todd Kincannon.
But let’s celebrate the good guys, including County Judge Clay Jenkins (D, in case there was any doubt). Here’s a link:

The headline says it all. Gov pRick’s first thought for every crisis or tragedy is “Sooooo how can my bubbas and me make a dollar or 10 out of this???” Smilin’ Rick al Paint Creek.
9PKM–You win the day! “Teabola” made me laugh out loud.
Of course, the reason Delay got off is that other disease made famous in Texas–affluenza!
10Nowwwww, the Governor wants support from the federal government.
11As I said this morning in the Washington Post: “Here in Texas, the only thing that’s been more contagious than Ebola has been the sheer amounts of stupidity that people have developed. It’s like stupidity is a disease that’s transmitted mouth to ear, and once it takes hold the only thing you should do is put the infected person out of your misery.”
12This is how…. irony heaped upon irony:

$2 Billion. Obamacare. Slush fund.
I’m sure pRick wants it all.
13“task force… includes state officials from environmental, health, and public safety agencies”
You mean, the Perry appointees to an environmental agency which denies climate change, a health agency which disallows Obamacare and a public safety agency which lets fertilizer plants explode?
Y’all’re doomed.
14@daChipster
We know.
We are doing our best to try to change all that.
Much as we can. Fast as we can.
15The task force is to monitor Ebola and other communicable diseases. Let’s just hope there are no more than two of them…
16The governor of Florida is hopeful that somebody sneaks in from West Africa so he can cash in there as well.
