A Woman Scorned Will Hurt You, Dude
Okay, so there’s this Rightwing Republican state senator in North Carolina named Wesley Meredith.
He’s a stinker.
Earlier this week, the senator’s 19th district opponent, Fayetteville attorney Billy Richardson, released financial and public assistance documents to the media showing the couple was on Medicaid and WIC.
And where did Richardson get the documents to prove that Meredith was taking Medicaid and WIC while making a six-figure income? Oh yeah … Meredith’s ex wife. She says she didn’t know about it until her divorce lawyer discovered it.
Fun, huh? Hypocrisy is always fun to watch.
But it gets better.
When the documents were first released on Wednesday, the Senate Republican caucus responded —
The North Carolina Republican Senate Caucus put out a statement Tuesday calling the accusations “desperate and despicable.”
“The only thing surprising about Billy Richardson’s wild accusations is that he didn’t stand on his desk and hurl them at the media. Less than 24 hours after the first public poll in this race showed him trailing by an insurmountable, double-digit margin, Richardson decided to drive his campaign into the gutter – the same place where he’s spent much of his professional and political career,” offered the group.
Yeah, yeah, gutter gutter.
But, they didn’t deny that the documents were true.
“Senator Meredith has yet to disavow the allegations. Instead, he claims memory lapse in this matter. He then attempts to pivot away from the substance of the allegations by condemning them as a ‘below the belt personal attack’ and ‘something I will not engage in….’ Sadly, Senator Meredith fails to acknowledge his last two campaigns, which were hallmarked by innuendo and thinly veiled character assassination of then Senator Margaret Dickson portraying her as a prostitute and a thief as well as the nonstop derogatory assault on Democratic candidate George Tatum.”
Prostitute! Thief!
Thou that pointeth the finger gets the finger pointeth back.
Now even the Republicans are asking him to step forward with the truth and all they hear is crickets.

1And I’ll ask the other half of glf’s question: How poorly was Wesley Meredith and his family vetted as Medicaid and WIC recipients that his six figure income was missed? Collusion? Which other politicos in North Carolina receive Medicaid and WIC while holding elective office? Do these politicos receive Medicaid and WIC as a gift either for being office holders or for being office holders backed by a particular political party. I’ll be grotesquely disappointed if the USDoJ does not investigate North Carolina’s Medicaid and WIC recipients. They can start by simply auditing the names of officeholders against Medicaid and WIC rosters.

3Actually, the states are tasked to investigate Medicaid fraud within their jurisdictions. Given the North Carolina political situation, it’ll probably end up as a civil complaint and there’ll be no jail time involved. Pity, because obviously this dude knows better. The wife has set herself up as knowing nothing, so she’ll probably skate. He may have to repay what he stole. About the best vengeance that can be expected is for Democrats to ask him every week whether he’s received his latest benefits.

If his wife signed their tax returns, state and federal, she can be charged whether she claims ignorance or not. Mr. and Mrs. Sleaze should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. The IRS should come into play here.

Despite crony GOPism in the state, I hope somebody checks this out and nails their butts to the floor if it’s true. But I hope that doesn’t make it harder on people who legitimately qualify for those programs.

13I visited the ABC11 site to read the comments, and boy, oh, boy, some on the site are finding all kinds of excuses as to why Meredith shouldn’t be called a welfare fraud.
Some admirable behavior for many of the commenters who probably call themselves Christians, isn’t it?
The truth is that all of their alleged Christian values are thrown out the nearest window when something bad is revealed about a politician they “like,” except when they begin to talk about how God will forgive him.
It’s sad for me to witness because I’m a Christian and my Christianity doesn’t work the way theirs does. Mine says wrong is wrong and one shouldn’t support another in his/her wrongdoing in any circumstance.
I guess they practice Christianity in an a la carte manner, picking and choosing which individual is to be attacked for his/her wrongdoings while ignoring others they like who do the same things and they refuse to hold them accountable.

While I am not religious, I can appreciate the pain of Christians who take and give comfort from your religion, while being aghast at the buffet KKKristians.
From my former religion I do hold to “do the best unto yourself with the least amount of prejudice to others.” From your religion, I like “bear no false witness.”
But religious, or not, most sane people know right from wrong. War is wrong. War based on ridiculous borders imposed on the Middle East by the British and French? Enough is enough. We cannot continue to support the Israeli transgressions, nor can we continue to support the rebels of the day. It’s a UN matter to which we should cease providing military solutions and go full bore with humanitarian support.
If Wes Meredith ever had a thought, he’d examine his hubris and hypocrisy. Short of that, the judicial system should give him food for thought and time in prison to reflect on his hubris.
15He is just another carpet bagger. NC is FULL of them. He happens to be from Miss. The political offices are passed around as party favors. His buddy Thom Tillis that is responsible for Medicaid being in such a mess is from Fla.
16How could his wife NOT know they were getting Medicaid and WIC? I mean, it’s not like you just go to the grocery store or the doctor’s office and say, “Oh, by the way, I’m on WIC or Medicaid.” You have to show proof to the cashier, i.e., an enrollment card or something. I’m not sure how it works other than seeing people swipe a card through the reader at the store and entering a PIN. So did he do all the grocery shopping and taking the kids to the doctor, etc.?
