Matthew 25
Ya know, you do not have to be a preacher man or a nun to know that we’re supposed to take care of each other.
Man’s first question to God was, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” God answered yes.
Catholic Charities is bringing 1,000 refugees from Central America to Dallas. A friend of mine in Dallas who is, of course, a Democrat, saw a need and jumped to fill it.
We are a grassroots group gathering supplies for donation to the child refugees. The items for donation will be given to Catholic Charities for distribution. “Across the country, Catholic Charities agencies are doing their best to respond to this developing humanitarian crisis. These children, many of them elementary-school aged or younger, are exhausted and alone, in desperate need of food, shelter, and most especially, a caring embrace. No matter what their legal status, leaving a seven-year-old in the desert to fend for herself would be inhumane. As beneficiaries of this great land of opportunity, we cannot turn our back on these children in their hour of greatest need.” ~~ via Catholic Charities
If you are on Facebook, they are here. If you aren’t, you can purchase items from Amazon for as little as $3. and up $30 that will be sent directly to my friend by clicking here. The best part is that you can act like a Christian without being one.
Do it. You’ll feel good about it.
One other thing, my friend Sarah Slamen will be on The Ed Show today at 4:20 Texas time talking about Rick Perry’s conspiracy theory involving Barack Obama and immigration. Check it out.
It’s a good plan. We’re moving right along in getting stuff to offer in welcome to these kids on July 31. It’s like Christmas in July. Sort of. We’re not checking any lists to see if they were naughty or nice before they took the quantum leap. Poor babies … I can’t begin to imagine how scared they are.
1Thanks for posting this info. The videos of the “Christians” meeting the buses with yelling and horrible signs make me despair for the citizens of this nation. Happy to make one small inroad through that hatred and fear.
2Bravo! Multisimo bravo! So good to hear this. Did some recent research. Turns out some nuns in the Chicago area got into the foster/sponsorship thing some time ago when kids caught crossing the border were actually chained like vicious criminals and held in adult detention. The nuns stepped in and took these kids and turned them around into greatly relieved and grateful. Also, what the nuns did got that chain policy stopped!!
3Thank you for the link, I am so happy to find some small way to help.
4What a wonderful project! I am so thrilled that I could help. And I agree w/ Karen — I can’t image how frightened they are either. Kudos to Catholic Charities and everyone else involved!
5Now this is what religion does best: organize charity. Thank you for the info. I’ve been hoping to find a way to help.
6I want to thank everyone supporting this effort. We are having so much fun getting supplies and making plans.
7Y’all can thank Cindy. She’s heading this project and doing a wonderful job. Each backpack will have a note in Spanish to the children saying that they are loved.
8You’re right it felt good.
I’m amazed at the way the wingnuts are handling this. They want armed guards to scare away the flood of unarmed women and children. I hope the pictures of that are as spectacular as that one picture of Elian Gonzalez in the closet.
9Is there some way to donate money so they can buy what they need, rather than our ordering items from Amazon? I have visions of their ending up with thousands of bottles of shampoo and not enough of anything else.
10Thank you, thank you, thank you, Cindy! We’re a collection of small communities here, but with luck we can pool our resources and follow your example.
11Please help. Our good Democrat County Judge, Clay Jenkins, is catching it from right wingers who apparently hate kids.
12JJ, the FB link isn’t working for me – user error, maybe?
13Tony, the link works for me. On Facebook, search for Operation Matthew 25.
Louis, you can donate an Amazon gift card at the link. Also, under each item, check the information on how many Cindy needs and how many she has.
14I wanted to say that Sarah did an outstanding job on the Ed Show.
15If anyone has trouble with the link contact me at ccole@myway.com. I will fix you up. We did have a few unpleasant folks last night so tried to be a bit more careful. The Amazon link is kept up to date in terms of how many items we need and how many have been ordered. We are also adding items. The best part is Amazon has a gift card option that allows us to use your donation to fill in any last minute holes. The gift cards start at 50 cents.
16I love the image of our Earth from space. Small blue planet.
It is all we’ve got, and it belongs to all of us. We all need to get back to promoting that image and to promoting that idea of mutual protection, mutual conservation, mutual care.
17Thank you for giving me a way to help, if only in a small way.
18So glad I could do something to help these kiddos, especially after such ugly things have been done and said by some people.
19Cindy, Amazon is asking for your phone number before completing the order. Can you give it, or should we list our own numbers?
20I heard Sarah on the Ed Show while I was driving this afternoon. She did a great job. For a minute there, I thought she was Wendy, although the voice was a little different.
Also, Cindy is doing a fantastic job of organizing this on the page, as well as fighting off trolls that keep finding there way in. They are determined to prevent this from happening, so only their hateful faces and voices will be there to greet this children. I’m not a Christian, either, but it certainly is a fine thing to beat the Christians at their own game, which they have forfeited.
21Thanks for letting us know how we can help. Can you leave the link up where we can find it again later?
22Cindy had to go tend some family matters. She will post some things she needs later tonight around 9:00 Texas time. Yes, I will leave the link up for years!
23Thank you, JJ and Cindy and anyone else working on this. This has been on my heart all day. That is sure easier than taking in two orphans. Before I left to go off wearing my grandma hat, I told my husband, “Honey, I don’t think anything will happen, but just in case it does, I volunteered us to take two orphan refugees.” He is amazing. He didn’t faint or cuss or anything. I thought of heroes I’ve known and read about all my life who valued each child and helped raise them right.
24Dear Miss Juanita,
Have you heard of the term ‘trigger warning?’ No, it’s not what your crazy neighbors yell before they go into the Target. It warns people that if they look at something, it might offend their sensibilities. I would suggest that your Amazon link have one of those warnings. The first several items on the list are for female personal products! As if I haven’t heard enough about female parts from the Hobby Lobby coverage. Anyway, I bought them three of something; I don’t know what they are and please don’t tell me.
25Diana Hickman, Mark Zuckerberg founded facebook. Maybe he can give Cindy a hand with the trolls and possibly drop her a $million.
Will give it a shot to contact Mark. Everything is worth a try to build on Cindy’s plan to welcome the children.
26No paypal?
27Also, by credit card, you can make direct donations to Catholic Charities of Dallas here: http://www.catholiccharitiesdallas.org/Donate
28I have donated to the group that you suggested, (thanks!) but just to be clear, 1,000 (!?!), children is a drop in the bucket and that’s what has all the red-necks freaked out! TENS of thousands. I do not know how we can manage the crisis. But we must. They are children and they are incredibly brave refugees. They are not all coming to the US. Mexico and Central America are also receiving their share. I can’t formulate any “foreign policy” that would stem this flow, but I hope someone can. Just imagine sending your child off on such a journey! That’s gotta be desperation!
29It’s okay, Craig, I think there are some women types in the refugees. We won’t tell you.
30Amazon gift card purchased and hopefully it gets to the right place. Just saw Dallas Co. Judge Jenkins on Rachel’s show talking about welcoming 2,000 children in three facilities there. You folks are awesome. Thank you for what you’re doing for these kids!
31so happy to find a place to donate to. thanks for this help
32The feminine hygiene products were added today. We came to the conclusion that any pre-teen and teen girls had a specific need that also had to be met. We will also be raising out goal from 50 care packages to 200 care packages tonight! If anybody has any additional questions that need immediate answers, I can (hopefully) help you out until Cindy is back at her computer.
33Just placed an order. Thank you, Juanita Jean, for posting this link. I’d been feeling so helpless and frustrated. That Amazon order wasn’t much, but it was what I could afford for now. Keep us posted.
34Sorry to be so late but family stuff first. Anyway, the Amazon site is updated and ready for the next round. The response has been fantastic. I am answering emails as fast as possible so if you sent me one I promise you are not being ignored. As far as phone numbers please use your own if asked. Amazon does have all my contact information on file. Folks.. again, thank you. This is truly a wondrous thing to see happening.
35Gracias, Cindy.
36THANK YOU for helping us be able to help in a small way.
I send a few gifts with my grandchildren for the children
surrounding all with our love…
