  1. Marcia in CO says:

Yes, but a Tea Party challenger … that just does not sound good at all!!

    1
  2. VintageMomma says:

Cantor lost to a Brat! Ha! Figures.

    2
  3. W. C. Peterson says:

It really warms my heart to know we’re quit of Eric Cantor. There’s still the general election, and the TEA Party guy will have a formidable challenge in the general. One less great goofball in the House will be replaced by a much lesser goofball if the TEA Party guy does win. But common sense may prevail — even in backwards western Virginia.

  4. maryelle says:

This is the same state where the Republicans bribed a Democrat to throw the Medicaid expansion bill. How did they ever end up with a Dem Governor? Virginia is over run with kochroaches.

    4
  5. Barbara Elliott says:

Given the very real threat of Republicans taking over both Houses of Congress this sounds like terrible news. I know nothing about Virginia politics or his district. Is there any hope this will flip the district to the D’s?

  6. penelope says:

meanwhile…don’t forget to charge your phone, sweetie!

    6
  7. Find a charger. Long night ahead….

    7
  8. I read this very differently…I read it as EVERyBODY hates Eric Cantor.

    8
  9. SomedayGirl says:

Barbara, I don’t think so. I read the Ds didn’t even put a name on the primary ballot because Cantor was a lock.

Still, I ain’t sorry to see the back of him.

    9
  10. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Walked in from work, booted up the computer and discovered Cantor lost. I love it! Time to check out the Democratic candidate and see what we can do to flip that seat.

ROFL @”John Boehner has to be sweating orange crush.” Bubba Jr is the art expert. Does he agree that red wine filtered through a flesh tone equals orange?

    10
  11. Angelo_Frank says:

The adherents of Christian Dominionism had to get rid of the only Republican Jew in the House of Representatives. See how they stabbed you in the back Eric.

    11
  12. The Democratic nominee is a fellow Randolph-Macon prof named Jack Trammel. It’s a 57-42 district (Romney). And apparently Dems did cross over in VA’s open primary and make mischief, if you believe Cooter from Dukes of Hazard:

  13. Mah Fellow Murkuhn says:

If you had an Android phone, you could simply turn the phone off, switch batteries, and be ready to go. Charge the dead one at your leisure. :-p

    13
  14. Dianne in PA says:

The Dem nominee is a Sociology prof. The R is an Econ prof. They are both teaching at Randolph Macon U. It’s an R district, but the voters never heard of either of them. Let’s hope the DCCC hauls ass in there and goes for it!

    14
  15. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Thanks PDiddie! What is the situation at Randolph Macon College? The teabagger David Brat is a professor there, as is the Democratic challenger Jack Trammel. Google search informed me that it’s a private liberal arts college near Richmond, VA. Two from the same place, so my concern is do we have legitimate opponents, or two of the same.

All help from Virginians appreciated in understanding whether to be suspicious or triumphant, and send in the support to Jack Trammel. TIA

    15
  16. Teh Gerg says:

Not all android phones have removable batteries.

    16
  17. Angelo_Frank says:

I fully expect Louie Gohmert to replace Eric Cntor.

    17
  18. daChipster says:

    Tea. Hee. Hee.

    18
  19. RepubAnon says:

Anyone care to wager that Mr. Cantor is working for Fox News before the week’s out? I expect that the non-Koch members of the Billionaire’s Club are a bit nervous about losing control.

    19
  20. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Angelo_Frank, at the thought of “Louie Gohmert to replace Eric Cantor,” expect Orange is the new Black Boehner to be in rehab before the 4th of July. Hope there’s a blogger at Boner’s favorite bar tonight, to regale us with his uncontrolled weeping. Or, if he’s carried out in the middle of the night tonight, hope the door-person is savvy and tips a blogger.

Taking bets, all dates available from tonight through November on Boner’s rehab entry. But, to be fair, anything beyond Labor Day is a sucker bet.

    20
  21. PKM:

Brat teaches economics in the business college…

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/who-is-david-brat

Trammell teaches sociology and is the director of support for disabled students.

    http://www.trammellforcongress.com/about.html

Neither man has done much in the way of campaigning or raising money. That changes tonight, of course.

    21
  22. Polite Kool Marxist says:

RepubAnon, Eric is always amenable to a bidding war. Whether it be Fox, Heritage or AIPAC, count on Eric to feather his nest as he has done during his dishonorable Congressional mooching career.

    23
  23. BarbinDC says:

Not to contradict JJ–but I will. I think the Orange One is raising a glass of a very special Scotch he has been saving for special occasions. Cantor was a thorn in his side on more than one occasion and I think the Boner is chuckling (to himself, of course) this evening.

    24
  24. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Thanks again, PDiddie, from your links would on the surface predict that Jack Trammel is a decent guy. But again, I know nothing about Randolph Macon College and was hoping someone from the region or a graduate of the school could give us an insider edge.

    Hensarling? Oy vey!!!!

Really thinking Congresswoman Pelosi needs to be forgiven for not pushing for the prosecution of Dubya’s war criminal administration and get her gavel back.

Go Blue Texas and every other state with a hope!

    25
  25. Aggieland liz says:

Here hee hee! Poor little lord Eric-roi thought he was going to go down in history as a “Speaker of the House”; instead, he has made history as the first Majority Leader of the House to lose his bid for re-election in a PRIMARY!! Karma has a nasty way of wielding irony to her greatest possible advantage! Hee hee hee … mean bi*ch, but I’ve been loathing Cantor for a long time now… hee hee hee hee hee!

    26
  26. Larry McLaughlin says:

This is going to get real “interesting” “May you live in interesting times”.

    27
  27. Litlhorn says:

I’m with Frank on this – I think the whole point was to remove the “Jew” from the House. Apparently the Brats Speech was all Christian this and God That…..Those CD’s are inching closer and closer to the Nazi Party daily….. But it is nice to know we won’t have to listen to that idiot Cantor unless we choose to turn on Fox….Or maybe DWTS….

    28
  28. I don’t suppose anyone saw 3 Brat supporters locked in the courthouse with the ballots?

    30
  29. Looking at the series of tubes, it looks like some people were shocked by this. I don’t think this is shocking at all.

They said Cantor was not conservative enough. I bet in a few years if this guy makes it to Congress, someone will say he is not conservative enough.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: Right wingers are pathological. Nothing is ever “conservative enough” for them.

    31
  30. I found Jack Trammel’s Amazon page. Looks encouraging.

    32
  31. e platypus onion says:

Please bow your heads and join me for a collective AAAWWWWWW………….RIGHT! for the deposed obstructionist weasel Eric Cant and Didn’t. Unfortunately, his opponent sounds even more obstructionist.

    33
  32. e platypus onion says:

I just noticed that Bray and Cantor look enough alike to be brothers-oh gawd.

    34
  33. Linda Phipps says:

The reason the Dem was elected governor was the weight of the Northern Virginia voter (smarter, richer mostly). Too bad we can’t weigh in on Brat. We are counting on his defeat.

    35
  34. Mary R. says:

Be careful what you wish for — and what you celebrate. Cantor was no statesman, and I, too, am glad to see his back. But what will follow? Sort of like cheering when Slick Rick announced he was leaving office, only to be presented with the possibility of getting a Gov. Ab-butt. Someone in this morning’s Dallas Morning Snooze was predicting that Jeb Hensarling (it is to gag!) might be the next Majority Leader. Or, of course, it might be someone worse from another state. I’m waiting for the pendulum to begin swinging back, but I’ve stopped holding my breath.

    36
  35. Cantor was a loss for the R’s from day one! He certainly jerked Boehner around on any number of issues, telling him that there was no support for one bill or another when actually there was. His loss was not just an if but a when! Good to know that the Dem’s have someone who actually likes people! Can’t wait for someone at one of Brat’s rallies to ask him where his burlap bag of chicken bones are, the ones he shakes before saying something economic!

    37
  36. maryelle says:

May the Force be with Jack Trammel and the Democrats, too.

    38
  37. yet another baby boomer says:

Weighing in a little late here as to above questions about Randolph College but wanted to be sure I had my facts backed up. There was and continues to be quite a storm of controversy over the college selling artwork to prop itself up financially. Apparently that’s what also prompted the school to go co-ed a few years back. In the Maier mess the head registrar walked out as the college officials brutally removed artwork over great protest by Maier staff and Randolph students. The posting for a new registrar went unheeded for a long time in a museum world where collections workers are desperate for jobs. All this shaggy dog story to question the qualifications of an economics professor in an institution that appears to be in financial distress. Not only a tea bagger but perhaps a rat jumping a sinking ship? First link gives history, second link is the latest.

    39
  38. What’s especially funny, after reading about Brat and comparing him to Cantor, is that it seems to be a case of “Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss.”

Only without the power that Cantor had accrued.

And that’s assuming that Brat wins the general election. As a newbie and a fanatic he is perfectly capable of self-destructing. We can hope.

  39. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

If he had a smidgen of class (i.e. if he were anything but a Republican jingoist) he could use the rest of his term to help find solutions instead of blocking them at every turn. If he had a smidgen of class…

    41
  40. Aggieland liz says:

@LynnN-that’s what I thought, no power in that seat no more! Jeb H is a very chilling thought; who’s the whip? Oh google….

    42
  41. Aggieland liz says:

One Kevin McCarthy, CA. Oh good Lord Pistol Pete is after the spot! Never mind Loony Louie!

    43
  42. Well, it han’t changed. From day one I never heard a good word about Cantor and now 7 terms later it is still the same. Arrogant as all get out. Not running as a Congresscritter to represent his district but definitely running for the Speaker of the House gig. Only 70 miles between D.C. and his district and he spent very little time down there. Note all the places he has shown up in the past few years as a guest speaker or something. When he did show up in his district, he had more black SUV’s and protection than the President! I kid you not! This guy brought his ownself down and he can write his own damn epitaph! He used the word “humility” today and it was hard not to gag. The guy was an overdone jerk.

    44
  43. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Candidate B.Rat is a Kochroach. Chuckles and Duvidele had a new game plan they were test driving. While they didn’t donate directly to B.Rat, they funneled money to Laura Ingraham, Ann Coulter and other right wing radio yappers to attack Cantor. Free advertising getting B.Rat some name recognition, while chewing on the many weaknesses of Cantor.

B.Rat has been tutored in the desires of Chuckles and Duvidele, beginning with a $500,000 donation to the college for B.Rat to teach a course in Ayn Rand ‘economics.’

Follow the money and Randolph-Macon is among many schools where Koch affiliations have been inserting their tentacles to influence how economics is taught.

We need to help Jack Trammel expose B.Rat as the Koch addict he is.

    #B.Rat is a Koch addict

  44. Angelo_Frank says:

I was the first one on the blogosphere with this theory…

Did Eric Cantor lose because he’s Jewish?

    http://theweek.com/speedreads/index/262975/speedreads-did-eric-cantor-lose-because-hes-jewish#axzz34NF1G8gP

    46
  45. maryelle says:

Cantor’s aides are blaming his loss on Democrats who voted for his opponent. it seems Virginia has an open primary and it would have been easy to do. Much like the Repugs who changed their registration to vote for Obama in the 2008 Democratic primary, so Hillary would lose the nomination and they felt Obama didn’t have a chance in heck of winning the general election. Major miscalculation.

    47
  46. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Angelo_Frank, your theory would not be past the Koch brothers narrow KKKristian world view.

But my new theory is the Kochroach brothers want even dumber candidates who carry their water faster than Cantor did. No subtlety allowed, full speed ahead with their buckets, like that boy Cruz from TX. Chuckles and Duvidele want their Keystone Pipeline, Iran’s oil, Ukraine, and another war or two or three for furthering their profits.

Eric was a prick, just not their prick for failing to get the job done.
