Kansas, Dorothy, Tax Cuts and Sam Brownback

May 13, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

So, those of you who have heard Sam Brownback’s name tossed around as presidential timber don’t even need to sharpen your axe.  He’s bringing himself down.

Screen Shot 2014-05-13 at 11.31.20 AMTax revenue in April dropped 45 percent from a year ago, the Kansas Department of Revenue announced Wednesday.

The state’s revenue for the year is $92.9 million less than projected earlier this month….

Okay, so what caused this completely predictable turn of events?  Tax cuts, of course.

Despite all crushing evidence that it doesn’t work, the mush for brains Republicans believe that tax cuts on the rich, like Brownback’s crazy scheme, will gleefully trickle down and everybody wins.  Okay, so rich people win.  Hey, they do have that part right.  As always happens, the tax burden shifted to the middle class.

And do you want to know who Brownback blames for this loss of $93 million?  If you guessed Benghazi, you’re close.  He blames Barack Obama.

Yes, the state of Kansas has a faulty economic plan and it’s Barack Obama’s fault.

Oddly, the Congressional Budget office reports that the U.S. Treasury Department booked a $114 billion surplus in April because Barack Obama raised taxes on the rich.

So, wait, it’s a damn miracle.  You raise taxes on the rich and cut taxes on the middle class and your revenues go up.  You lower taxes on the rich and shift the burden to the middle class and … it’s Barack Obama’s damn fault.

Brownback, you broke it, you own it.

Thanks to Larry at the airport in far away places for the heads up.

The Koch brothers live in Kansas. Remember, they don’t want minimum wages, environmental regulations, renewable energy, health and safety regulations, women wearing joolry or lipstick, okay I put that in there but I’m sayin’.

  2. Hmmm. Who would have figured that if you cut revenue, you have less money? Obviously, there was some Obama tomfoolery going on to make that happen.

  3. Zyxomma says:

I hate to say it, but Kansans got what they voted for. Remember, everyone: It’s not just Republican voters, combined with gerrymandering, responsible for electing rightwing nutjobs. It’s Democratic and Independent voters who STAY HOME. Register, and vote in every primary and every general, every year.

  4. The Kansas Department of Revenue is notorious for poor projections. Long before they started feeding Brownback his numbers, their misses were epic.

Sometimes a bureaucracy can keep government working effectively while the politicians play their games in the playground across the street. In Kansas, we have the perfect storm of an incompetent state department and political lunacy.

  5. Lorraine in Spring says:

Do folks know about that thing called math in Kansas?

    5
  6. Sam Brownback, the Koch brothers and the Phelps clan are the three prongs of evil. Texas may have cornered crazy, but Kansas slopped up the despicable.

Lorraine in Spring, math GOP style means still believing that Trickle Down is a viable economic policy, while ignoring plus forty years of failure and facts.

    6
  7. Lorraine, everyone knows that math is just a theory. A liberal theory, at that.

  8. Sam Brownback for President! Of Republican Idiots, Inc.

  9. Ralph Wiggam says:

Kansas has an income tax but the legislature created loopholes for everyone except wage earners. Farmers, businesses, professional partnerships, trust fund kids, and retired folks all have ways to get out of income tax, so wage earners have to carry the entire load. That’s a prescription for failure.

  10. Kate Dungan says:

The only time the trickle down theory worked was in the movie The Towering Inferno.

Back to the drawing board, Brownback.
This is where it really hurts the Republican
trickle down “fiction”. Every Democrat worth her salt should point to this fiasco as proof positive that it doesn’t work.

  12. You just don’t get it. This red revenue hole isn’t a bug, it was a feature. Disabling credit ratings and steep revenue shortfalls cause government to fail. They were sent to cause this.

    12
  13. The sad and scary part is that the Repub base truly believes it is Obama’s fault. They don’t do well with facts.

    13
  14. This was so predictable. You could see it in the way he was behaving on the Hill. Can’t feel one bit sorry for him. Now he has to own the misery he has created.

    14
  15. I thought it was Trickle ON. As in, we’re underneath being trickled on.

    15
  16. Larry At the airport says:

Susan, you did a fabulous job of finding this from the clue I sent.

    16
  17. Rubymay says:

Well, of course it’s President Obama’s fault. The right wing nuts blame him for everything they can think up. This does not excuse their inability to think in the first place, which is why they never change. And Rhea’s right — it’s trickle ON.

    17
  18. UmptyDump says:

Sam Brownback should be called Sam Yellowshoes. His trickle-down policy has soaked through his Depends and dribbled down his legs. He implemented an economic policy that amounts to peeing on his own footwear, and now he gets to slosh around in it for awhile.

Folks, this is just the tip of the Iceberg for Herr Brownshirt – uh, Brownback. Ya’ll better get the popcorn and Pop, cause its gonna be quite a show. Once a good Investigative Reporter gets in there and follows the money, Levinworth will stay in business for Centuries…..One clue, “Out of the mouths of Babes…” Go get ’em
