Interesting that 4 out of the 5 ‘toons have to do with income inequality. How short-sighted those stingy Republicans are to throw away a perfectly good campaign issue. If they got behind improving it, they could also claim it for themselves. But of course, Obama.

  2. Ralph Wiggam says:

Every time the progressives mention income inequality, the Republicans call it class warfare. It is not warfare, it is a massacre. If it were warfare, there would be casualties on both sides.

  3. One of the primary functions of the government should be to redistribute income in order to avoid vast income inequality. The truth is that if there is no redistribution the rich will end up with everything. They have the will and they have the resources. Proof of that is the last thirty years.

A kindergarten teacher once did an informal study in which she distributed equal amounts of clay to each child in her class every morning. By the end of the day a few kids had it all.

  4. Followup on Zyxomma’s link:

“As we have a culture that runs further and further from God’s principles, His precepts, from God’s heart, it’s only natural consequences that we’re going to suffer,” he said.

“You cannot run away from the heart of God and expect God to bless the country,” he concluded.

Funny how the least religious countries, such as those in Scandinavia, Japan, New Zealand, etc. have the best educated, longest-lived, healthiest people… with often the least income inequality. Not many hurricanes, too.

I guess Bob Vander Plaats’ god either isn’t doing what Bob says or isn’t paying attention.

I’m sorry but that is scary. Don’t they realize that sexual sins, as they define them, are not the only sins? The worst sins in Jesus’ book, or so I’ve been told by folks who should know, are greed and self-righteousness. I won’t preach any more here and I don’t take up a collection but I haven’t quit thinking. I lied. Do they intend to take sinners out in the street and stone them to death?

Dear Marge, my church has been obsessed with sex or abstinence for about 2000 yrs now +/-. Still not sure why when gluttony and avarice are clearly sins of the flesh too? “the only unforgivable sin is the sin against the Holy Spirit” is the cryptic utterance ascribed to Jesus. That tale he told about the rich fool is interesting. I think if you regard your fellow men as stepping stones on the way to wealth and the pursuit of happiness that pretty much qualifies. There is, after all, more than one way to screw someone 🙁

  7. Polite Kool Marxist says:

As I understand the Decalogue, Moses came home with commandments, not suggestions. But since so many on the far right are bellying up to the buffet, this doubter will take a place at the table tonight.

Thou shalt not kill is pretty good. Hasn’t happened in human history, but maybe it will experience a late blooming. That would be super.

But in respect to Republicans and their theocratic pals, my side dish selection is “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.” Or, in modern terms, stop lying you cheap, cheesy Koch suckers.

  8. Marge Wood says:

Oh. Thanks, Aggieland Liz. I had forgotten about the unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit. Not sure if any theologians have ever decided what that is. While they’re chewing on it, I say that we need to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, take care of the widows and orphans, visit those in prison (a commandment that not many folks obey, including me), and generally try to see that the rich don’t just get super duper richer and leave everyone else in the dust without any water.
