My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
I went to a ball game once. A baseball game, I mean. I can still hear that CRAAACK! as the bat hits the ball. I’m rootin’ for whoever roots for free elections.
1The last time I went to a major league (OK, a Cubs game) San Francisco was in the park. My daughter lived two blocks from Wrigley and purchased a box seat ticket for me. I left in the seventh Inning (Cubs were once again being pounded) after having spent forty three dollars. I had no parking costs, transportation costs OR ticket costs.
2Four dollars for a hot dog with no condiments, four dollars for 3/4 of a ten ounce beer, four dollars for a bag of peanuts. I, along with the Cubs were shelled but, the peanuts were not.
Even with that experience, I remain of the opinion there are only two teams worth rooting for, the CUBS and whoever is playing the Cardinals.
I do not live close to a major league city, but do attend Albuquerque Isotopes games on a fairly regular basis. There is nothing like the sight of a freshly groomed diamond or the sound of a bat connecting with a ball. We are Astros fans, as well and until they were forced into the American League, could drive as few as 8 hours to see them in Denver or Phoenix. Last year, we flew to Houston for a couple of games, and this year we will catch them in Kansas City, but getting to a game won’t be as easy as when they were in the National League. Go Stros.
3At Last! Opening Day for the Nats takes place in NYC at 1pm today–which, last time I looked, was getting the snow we got yesterday.
It would really be Old Man Winter giving us the middle finger as he exits the premises if the game was called on account of weather.
Still, I am looking forward to all 162 (+???) games starting NOW!
4I root for the Washington Nationals and whoever is playing the Cardinals but I love to go see the Potomac Nationals in Woodbridge, VA. My wife and I have the best seats in all of baseball. Right behind the P’Nats dugout with a direct line of sight to both home plate and the mound. Section One, Row E, Seats 11 and 12. Headed there April 11th. Sorry, but we declare this P’Nats Country!
5Does anyone seriously expect the (L)Astros to be a successful team? I mean, come on, the current owner makes Jeff Loria look like George Steinbrenner… the current total team salary is under $45 million, and it’ll probably end up being lower than that within the next month or two.
6A baseball afternoon on TV for Chicagoans. Cubs are just starting in Pittsburgh and the White Sox host the Twins at 3:30. Nice day for a game in both cities, but the outcome? Well … that’s another matter …

8Go ‘Cats…
Saw the Yankees beat the Indians in the only major league game I ever saw. Still have warm fuzzies for the Indians and the Browns down here in the Holler. I know, I know.
9I’m a glutton for punishment so love my Phillies and the husband is a Yankees fan. That makes a nice balance in the house.
We see the Astros a couple times a year, if not for the talent, for the ambiance.
And hot dogs always taste best at baseball games.
10I’m near el Lay, so I’m a Dodger fan because Manager Don Mattingly (Donnie Baseball) is from my home town, so when I root, it’s for the blue. This makes my cousin crazy, because he’s a Cardinals fan from the womb and has a daughter working in the Cardinals’ PR office. But I haven’t been to a game in two decades. I get a better view of the action from my la-zee-boy when I care to watch a game.
11On reading the above, I sound like a tween…so, so, …so I apologize for the lousy sentence structure…I really are edumacated.
12If it’s snowing, it’s baseball opening day. If you’re sweating your brains out, it’s football opening day.

DH enjoys spring training. He’s been taking the grandson for years. The players, owners and staff are really great with kids.
16Here in the home state of The Cardinals, we usually reserve the phrase “and whoever is playing…” for ku, the mets, and the yankees. Cubs fans are universally respected for their loyalty, no matter HOW much pain their team has inflicted upon their, their parents, and their children’s generations.
17The Pirates have beautiful weather for their opener. Willie McKutchen is being presented with last year’s MVP award by (ugh) Barry Bonds. Not a Bonds fan.
18My all-time favorite ballplayer was Willie Mays.
Loved to watch him play.

Not a baseball fan. I’ve seen the Yankees beat whomever they played several times (never been to their new stadium), and saw the Mets win as well. Apart from Shea and Yankee, I’ve been to no other stadia. I loved that Alex Rodriguez wore an old-style uniform. Enjoy your season, fans. I won’t be participating.
21I hate the DH rule as it removes much of the strategy of the game in what suppose to be a thinking game. Nor am I keen on the ping of spring. If the amateur game would go back to wooden sticks and dump the DH then that’s all the ambiance needed to waste and afternoon in the sun. Yes to the crack of the bat and sitting back and enjoying a cold drink.
22A buck for a coke, a buck to support the league and watch some kids play their hearts out for couple of hours
I’ll take credit for the Astros head coach(if it is still Bo Porter). He was a two sport star at the U of iowa and I live in iowa. Other than that,after Big Mac retired,I haven’t followed baseball at all.
23Hmm. No one else has mentioned the Rangers, who have been my team since the team formed. By extension, I’m afraid that this means that no one else in the Dallas-Ft. Worth reads this blog, which means I’m the only Democrat in two counties. Just as I thought.
24I’ve been a Cardinals fan as long as I’ve known about baseball, and that’s a long time. Got it from my father and grandfather, and as far as I can tell I was conceived during the ’46 World Series, and was named for Musial. I don’t expect to ever change teams.
25Fear not Diane. I read JJ faithfully and have actually been following the Rangers for a few years and I live pretty close to Arlington. However, today’s opener did not exactly inspire me to investigate the possibility of purchasing early World Series tickets.
26Born in West Palm Beach and grew up with the Braves spring training there. Have lived ATL for 25 of the last 30 years, with the other five years living in Greenville, SC when their AA team played there. The only time I lived in a town w/o a Braves team was during college in Lynchburg, VA. Guess what? Today the Lynchburg Hillcats are a single A team for the Braves!

27Fenway Fran should enjoy a cartoon I saw a while back. Woman sees poster about a lost Boston terrier and calls the number. “I think I found your dog, but how do I know if it’s a Boston terrier?…. Okay, I’ll try that.” Turns to the dog and says, “Yankees.” Dog erupts in frenzy of furious barking. Yep, Boston terrier.

29I was an Astros fan since their Colt 45 days when I was a very little kid, but their stupid move to the AL changed all that. I’ll never ever go to another Astros game. And I’ll probably never see them on tv since I can’t get Comcast.
30Ever since 2006 my heart has been on the soccer pitch with the Dynamo. If yall haven’t been to a Dynamo game, I recommend putting on some orange and going to BBVA. You’ll be a fan too.
My boss is one damn heretic! He is a baseball nut yet he insisted on working on Opening Day! Ya gotta wonder if he is worth a novena to turn him around onto the righteous path.
