Welcome to The World's Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc.
My name is Susan DuQuesnay Bankston. I live in Richmond, Texas, in the heart of Tom DeLay's old district. It's nuttier than squirrel poop here.
I am honored and privileged to know Miss Juanita Jean Herownself, hairdresser extraordinary and political maven. Since she does not have time to fiddle with this internet stuff, I type her website for her and you can read it if you want to. If you don't, she truly does not give a big bear's butt.
A lot of what I post here has to do with local politics, but you probably have the same folks in your local government.
This ain't a blog. Blogs are way too trendy for me. This is a professional political organization.
What tantalizes me about the Phelps story is that apparently his death was preceded by a family fight at Westboro as to who was gonna run things due to his diminishing health and probable death. I would actually pay a dime to see the video of that “congregation” carrying on like howler monkeys. Since Phelps was pretty much the entire engine for that bunch, it could be the U S of A will be seeing the selling off of church property, etc. etc. plus all sorts of nasty as second skimmings court cases.
1Hos group came to our small city years ago, because we had the first openly gay mayor.
2And then they came back again to demonstrate against a play at the local college.
I am proud to say that our city came together to demonstrate against the hate!
They did not look like happy, sane people.
You know, like the picture of the God lady in the post before.
You would think you would be a tad happier, nicer and sane if you knew the will of God.
Just saying.
As Mark Twain once said: ” I won’t be going to his funeral, but I approve of it.” I’d volunteer to help water the flowers on his grave (yellow rain), but I dislike long lines.
3Though he never wanted it for anyone else . . . Fred needs to go in peace.
4I have a friend who is part of the Patriot Riders who provided a motorcycle shield for funeral cortège that were disrupted by the Westboro thugs. I suggested to him that an escort of motorcycle riders, leaning heavily to the LGBTQ and military community could escort Phelps to his final destination.
5He was a truly awful man…and although we would like to see him sent to eight hot hells, let’s be above that. As Angela said, Go in Peace.
6Angela (@#4), you are a class act.
George Takei’s facebook posts on Phelp’s failing health and demise have been likewise gracious and compassionate.
My hope is that with him gone, the church will fall apart, and that some of its members will start to see their way out of their limiting and hateful beliefs.
And if theories of reincarnation, or visitations by guiding angels have any truth to them, Phelps will come back to teach acceptance, love and compassion, to help right to wrongs and harm he and the WBC have done.

I’ve never wished a man dead but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.
–Mark Twain
8SomedayGirl, Mark Twain didn’t say that. However, Clarence Darrow did say “I have never killed any one, but I have read some obituary notices with great satisfaction.”
9I wonder how his entrance interview went at the Pearly Gates. Oh, to have been a heavenly fly on THAT celestial wall.
10Love always wins, always, it just doesn’t always happen as quickly as we would like. If I were a good person I would wish that a merciful God would sit down with Fred and explain the error of his ways. I would then hope he would have the opportunity to come back and atone for the pain he caused others (frequently at the worst of times).
Alas, I am not Ghandi, and like JJ, I choose to ignore him. He would hate that. Time for me to re-read that book, let’s see, “turn the other cheek,” I know it’s here somewhere.
11I think Fred Phelps will be reincarnated as a member of one of the groups that he spewed out his hatred on. He has some hard lessons to learn.
12@Origuy
Thank you! The sentiment remains the same.
13It turns out that today is the International Day of Happiness. I am happy.
14Sister Artermis, I can wish the same, in terms of his church falling apart and the hatred against gays (and every other group that’s a target) dying out, but the facts are agin’ us. Phelps didn’t start the hatred against gays; gays were being attacked and beaten long before he showed up on the scene, and those still vicious about it don’t need his endorsement to carry on.
15Shalom, Fred.
16If you can’t say something nice about Phelps, say something awful. Touche’ douche’.
17Fred who? Gone and soon forgotten.
18Well, it says that doing a kindness to one’s enemies is akin to heaping coals of fire upon their heads. I imagine kindly prayers for God to be merciful to Mr Phelps, especially those sent by LGBTQ persons would have a similar effect – and I bet he won’t scorn their assistance either although it would nearly choke him. Praying for him hasn’t choked me though(even though I thought it might!) and now that he is gone, he can do no more harm here.
@ da Chipster, that interview might have started out, “Fred, would you know the meaning of the word ‘cult’? Let’s look it up…”
19His family stated there will be no funeral.
And that’s all I have to say about it.
20Guess they’e afraid someone might picket it.
21da Chipster’s speculation about Fred’s reception in the afterlife reminds me of a cartoon of a KKK member being told at the pearly gates, “Just stand there a minute so the Big Guy can get a good look at you….” Klansman doesn’t realize that he’s standing on a giant golf tee, and a really big golf club is on its way down.
22I’m not surprised that there will be no funeral. This, after all, is the group who picketed MISTER ROGERS’ funeral. There are too many people looking to get one back.
23Cowards. They who dish it out should take it!
24Is he in for a big surprise!
25e platypus onion, I’ll take your challenge to say something nice about Fred: he died.
26With all due respect to the departed Mr. Phelps, I’ve never had so much entertainment from reading about a man’s death.
27Tony, I believe in being prepared. When Darth Dick kicks, we’ll need this http://www.babelfish.com/ to keep up with the mirth.
28It WILL choke me to pray for Cheney. My prayers concerning that $@&()!! usually go, “can’t you just get him out of here?! It is SO way past time!” and it declines from there in sentiment and expression.
29Dick who?
30DaChipster … I said an almost identical statement on Facebook today … wishing to be a fly on the ole Pearly Gates and listening to what St. Peter had to say when Fred popped up!! I have to believe Ole Fred is getting an earful from the Top Commander of the Universe!! And, if it is true that you get an instantaneous review of your entire life … I wonder how all that went or, perhaps, it is still going on at we speak.
I really have nothing good nor bad to say about Fred Phelps except I’m glad he’s gone!! I read that he had actually been excommunicated from WBC church!! It would be a good church to die an immediate death, but family members may continue the hate and ugliness!! Will have to wait and see!!
31I used to run into Fred Phelps when working on a project in Topeka … when he was only locally infamous (he was the only person my very friendly puppy threatened to bite). By then, he was condemning Kansas worthies to eternal damnation, and just starting his “God Hates Fags” thing. Tongue in cheek, he was proposed for a human rights award for uniting Topekans in their condemnation of bigotry.
One good thing that can be said about him was that he did some good representing minority clients who had been overcharged interest by retailers. He played a small role in the Fair Credit Reporting Act of 1970. But that was then… this is now. The good that men do is buried with them… and all that.
Of course going after deep pocket offenders (like Sears, Roebuck), and working on contingency, he made himself a wealthy man. He was later disbarred, but always felt that Westboro’s act was designed to provoke a lawsuit, that would result in a generous out of court undisclosed settlement to the Phelps claim.
32Here’s hoping Phelps had a version of God that was a black, gay female. :Let the hilarity ensue.
33“god hates Bigots”
34I finally thought of something good. It would be fun to draw him. Bless his heart. Someone oughta write a novel about him.
35Mr. Phelps should not be forgotten. He should remain in our memories as a warning about how terribly the human brain can go wrong, and how horribly the wrongness can spread.
36“for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.”
37One of my favorite (few) Bible verses.
May he burn in the hell he so fervently believed in and wished for others.
38Personally, out of the goodness of my heart, I’m trying to stop the spread of the rumor that he was kicked out of his church because he was dying from Aids.
You can help stop this horrible rumor by asking as many people as possible if they’ve heard it, then ask them not to repeat it…
39No matter how misguided he was I find it impossible to believe he even got sight of the pearly gates. We don’t have a livecam into hell either but if you sniff . . . barbeque?
40“The opposite of Love isn’t Hate … it’s Apathy”
41@James Bear … never heard that rumor nor read it anywhere on-line … except for what you wrote in here. The best way for a rumor not to start, is to not start one!!
42James Bear, that’s just naughty!
43@ Marcia re: James Bear . . . I’m reading that as sarcasm on JB’s side, but then I also have a verrry wry/dry sense of humor.
44Like the song says,I’m not gonna go around repeating rumors,so you better be sure and listen close the first time. Good one James Bear.
45My little hometown in north x East Texas lost a Marine early in the Afghanistan war. When the news spread that these nit wits would come to protest, every Marine in 7 states became aware. Turned out only about 6 or 7 of these nit wits showed. All 14 members of the local PD and a couple County mounties had them sealed off from the road on which the funeral would pass. And about a 1000 Marines crossed the road as the funeral came in sight arms locked together. One Marine, about 90, was pushed in his wheelchair by a 20ish relative. As the last funeral car passed, these bullies mounted up and left. They never uttered a word.
46How can someone who started his professional life as a civil rights attorney have gone so horribly wrong?
47Drugs and delusions, Zyxomma, according to one of his sons.
