So, Let Me Get This Straight: You’re Whining About Me Whining?

March 20, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Why do we always end up back here with Democratic Women versus Republican Girls?

Up in Minnesoooota, Democratic State Rep. Carly Melin introduced some bills asking for equal pay for equal work, expand access to child care, and paid sick leave.

Well, the Republican girls weren’t having any of that.

53B“We heard several bills last week about women’s issues and I kept thinking to myself, these bills are putting us backwards in time,” State Rep. Andrea Kieffer (R) told colleagues at a Wednesday hearing on one of the measures. “We are losing the respect that we so dearly want in the workplace by bringing up all these special bills for women and almost making us look like whiners.”

In Minnesota, women make 80 cent for every dollar a man makes in the same job.

Here’s my plan for dealing with Andrea.  Let’s don’t whine that she’s whining about us whining.  Let’s just kick her ass.

Thanks to Jay for the heads up.

I will bet real American money that Andrea owns a real estate business, or her husband is an investment banker or some other oligarch, guaranteeing she, personally, doesn’t need a raise.

  2. Lorraine in Spring says:

There should be a special line on women’s paychecks that show how much they would have made if they only had a wee-wee.

Looking at the difference over weeks, months and years might wake up some folks. Especially during those difficult times when money is tight.

    Good Grief.

Dear Andrea: The “respect” that most women want in the workplace is A) equal pay and B) no sexual harassment.

Money is a great sign of respect.

So is not chasing a woman around a desk.

(Which happened to my mother, who’s now been dead over 20 years so I can tell that. Eminent geologist, every damn day, because she was female and divorced and therefore an easy–he thought–target.)

Andrea, honey, if you think you get real respect by bobbling your pretty blonde head to the tune the old white guys play…just wait until you’re going gray, have some wrinkles, and need to earn a living because your meal ticket had a heart attack, got cancer, or had a midlife crisis and eloped with his younger, blonder secretary. You’ll find out just how much “respect” you get by being underpaid, overworked, and groped.

  4. JJ, as always, thanks and you’re welcome! The hits just keep on comin’ from the GOP dollies, eh? I’m onboard with kickin’ some serious ass. We can do it in person or at the voting booth in ’14 — or both. VOTE OUT GOP!

  5. san fraser says:

Elizabeth – AMEN from another “was in the workplace in those days” female. Still happening, but at least some recourse now until the likes of Ms. Melon decide that like civil rights legislation, it is “no longer necessary”. Sigh.

  6. Jeff in PA says:

I wonder if she makes the same as her male counterparts. Perhaps she should agree to take a 20% pay cut in order to be on par with the other female employees in Minnesota.

    6
  7. Oh, that rattling sound when she bobs her pretty blond head to the tune the old white guys are whistling! As for waiting until she gets old, hell, she will be gobsmacked at what happens when she gets sick!

  8. e platypus onion says:

Hope she doesn’t whine when she gets raped. How unbecoming of a wingnut woman. Just lay back and enjoy it,like your male counterparts preach. And listen, toots,do you know how to make hormones? That’s right, don’t pay them. They moan, not whine.

  9. Mark Johnson says:

The obvious problem is that Minnesota must pay its female congresspeople the same as its male congresscritters.

This is wrong. It gives women the idea that anyone cares about their opinions.

We all know — as any attractive young female D.C. intern can attest — that men do much of their thinking with their penis.

Since women do no, by definition, have a penis, they are obviously not as smart as men. With the miraculous penis appendage to do their thinking for them, men are twice as smart as women.

    Duh.

This is why men make more money than women. In fact, being twice as smart as women, I am surprised that women are making 80% of the money that men make instead of the 50% they deserve (being only half as smart without a penis and all).

That just isn’t fair. But then Mama always told me life wasn’t fair.

    9
  10. Jeff in PA – Exactly! Let’s see Carly put her money where her mouth is, and show some solidarity with the women of Minnesota who aren’t protected by a law that pays them equal wages.

Maybe Peabody & Sherman can take her for a little ride in the wayback machine to that golden era back in time when women received equal pay, as she suggested that bill would do. 1900’s? 1800’s? 1700’s? ….

    10
  11. @san fraser & @Rick — Just to clarify: Carly Melin is the *Democratic State Rep.* who introduced legislation to give MN women equal pay, etc. The bright light who is opposing this is *Republican State Rep.* Andrea Kieffer, who is pictured in JJ’s post. Let’s give Dem Rep. Melin credit for trying to give MN women their due, and remember that it’s Republican State Rep. Andrea Kieffer who doesn’t want women to earn the same pay as men, for whatever reasons.

  12. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Holy Gohmerts! What am I missing about GOP women who are against their own pay equality? If they were sane, they’d lend bi-partisan support to the legislation introduced by Democratic State Rep. Carly Melin.

Equality is a good thing ladies, really. Fourteenth Amendment, U.S. Constitution “equal protection of the laws.”

    12
  13. Corinne Sabo says:

If whining will get me equal pay, I will definitely whine!

    13
  14. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Corinne Sabo, you shouldn’t be forced to whine or demand your wages. Leave the crying to those tyrants who cannot willfully abuse you without fear of a lawsuit thanks to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act. Enjoy watching them cower, cry and snivel, but ultimately pay you fairly.

Look at the way the Costco business model is kicking the butts of Walmart and Target. Fairness and equality do succeed in the marketplace.

Charles and David Koch may have fooled the Tea Baggers and bought the GOP, but the “bang” for their buck is pretty dismal. The unintended consequences are poetic justice with a surging backlash of populism.

Christie went up in traffic. Paul Ryan just ran through the doghouse in dog bone underwear, while blowing the wrong whistle. “incoming message” is beginning to have the same effect on Reince Priebus as its military context. 2014 should be deservedly ugly for the GOP. 2016 could be the year of their demise.

  15. san fraser says:

JJ – sorry _ I am a “foreigner” in Oregon and when writing the post looked up for a name and took the one that came first in the article. Sigh. And they even TAUGHT reading skills in my day.

  16. Marge Wood says:

I am pretty sure that all the women I know who work or who have ever worked or who intend to be paid to work want decent pay. Some jobs, like house cleaning, lots of males do not want to do. I’m curious. What is fair hourly wage for housecleaning? and how many breaks should it include and should they be able to check their email and do a load of laundry on break?

  17. Aggieland liz says:

@mark johnson, is that why they insist that two heads are better than one?!

    17
  18. Expanded access to child care? Paid sick leave? Equal pay for equal work? Yeah, those are things that no self-respecting MAN would ever want. Preach it, Pub sista!
