Like Deception Is Anything New To The GOP

February 04, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, so the Republican Party is trying to fool people into donating to them when the people think they’re donating to Democrats.

Well, alert the damn media.  It ain’t like trying to fool people is virgin territory for them.  This ain’t no damn pilgrim experience for Republicans.

Republicans are defending a series of websites they established that appear to support Democratic candidates for Congress, but instead direct contributions to the GOP.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) said its websites were not confusing, and accused Democrats of crying foul because their candidates were struggling.

They refused refunds until a donor went to the media about it and now they are all like …. oh, not us, we will be delighted to refund money.

However, headlines like this —

— can hardly be classified as “news.”  It’s what they do in the normal course of business.

  1. GOP “family values”: Lie, cheat, steal….

    1
  2. “Obtaining money by false pretenses” is usually considered a form of theft, and a crime.

Of course, in a red state the attorney general isn’t going to go after them…but someone sure should.

    2
  3. They could have avoided the deception charge by simply putting the word “Defeat” at the top of the ad. They didn’t even put “defeat” in bold in their “description.” Good call on whomever reported them.

    3
  4. The good news is that Democrat voters tend to be educated and not as easily fooled as Republicans – so they garnered more bad publicity than money. They forgot that not everyone is as dumb as their base.

    4
  5. Always read carefully before you donate. Always.

    5
  6. Cheryl: the sad truth brought home this last two sessions of Congress is that many Tea Party backed Congressmen are both highly educated and twisted, delusional sociopaths. Some of the worst extremists are medical doctors.

It’s like the old butterfly ballots where people who thought they were voting for President Gore ended up voting for Pat Buchanan in Florida.

  8. Two thoughts:

1- What does that tell you about the GOPs support? They can’t get people to donate unless they TRICK them into it? Not a good sign for the GOP.

2- How is this not fraud? As in, of the criminal variety? If you go on a website and think you’re buying one thing and you’re delivered something else, that’s the definition of fraud. Why is no one being prosecuted?

  9. Once the donors find out they were scammed, they will contact their credit card companies, those companies will reimburse them, and go after the NRCC with attorneys and revoke their credit card privileges.
They were stupider than Sarah Palin for pulling something like this, I mean REALLY stupid.

    9
  10. Momma….. if “Scumbags” offends you….. I apologize.

    10
  11. Deception . . . thy name is (fill in the blank). Scamming $$ is just one of the the Rethugs games. The other one . . . lemme give you a new and current example. They have just released their Principles of Immigration. Will allow a three second delay here for a good laugh. I read them. They pretty much match up with what the Senate Democrats and a handful of Senate Republicans whipped up except when it comes to citizenship. So help me, they would rather have a new economy size American version of apartheid and I ain’t kiddin’!

  12. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Anyone else smell ALEC in this? It would appear that they are writing ads now, too.

We could save money on the cost of the GOP in state and national offices. Simply have ALEC submit their legislation to the Dems for consideration. That would be significantly more honest than the current system.

    12
  13. Other scams the GOP has pulled in our area include putting out literature with false endorsements, and busing in homeless people to populate their rallies and wave signs. They couldn’t even use local homeless people. At least I think someone was fined for one of those scams, but MD is a blue state.

I honestly can’t remember reports– in the credible press– of Democrats pulling this kind of gohmert. (And all of those misspelled signs are supporting the other side too.)

  14. e platypus onion says:

PKM-there are a number of Dems who belong to Alec. In iowa the rethugs that control the house took state tax money and paid memberships for all iowa congresspeoples, including Dems. SoDak did the same thing,so iowa and SoDak have 100% enrollment in ALEC. In iowa,Dems can opt out. Which party always claims Dems want toforce stuff on the other party?

    14
  15. The NRCC does not want to litigate this issue and so is offering refunds to any voter who complains or thinks that they were tricked http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/03/republican-website-donations_n_4719196.html?utm_hp_ref=politics

    15
  16. Corinne Sabo says:

Gee, there is only a law that says you must refund a donation if the donor wants it back…

    16
  17. @Elizabeth:
Yep! In Texas all that is in the Penal Code in Section 32. It’s kinda a GOP-centric section.

    17
  18. Remember Watergate and Nixon’s Dirty Tricks Committee? This is the Repug way of life. The Florida fiasco and Gore’s stolen Presidency? The voter ID laws and gerrymandering? How can honest, law abiding citizens get a fair shake from these criminals?
We need heroes, like the PA judge who struck down the Repug Voter ID law and Mayor Bill DeBlasio who wants the super rich residents of New York to pay a small tax to provide all day Pre-K for poor children and Gabby Giffords who is working tirelessly to get stronger gun legislation. We need to publicly shame all those Repug governors who refused to expand Medicaid and give healthcare to the people who so badly need it.

    18
  19. I agree with Kool Marxist:

If this had been done by a Democratic or progressive organization, we would NEVER hear the end of it.

    19
  20. HEY! That’s my Congresswoman you are messin’ with, GOP/Tea Party!

    20
  21. Marge Wood says:

Looks to me like anyone who looked at the picture of the candidate would think, she’s a Democrat. She looks sensible and intelligent and doesn’t wear pink hairbows with pearls. Also donors oughta have to be able to pass a literacy test.

    21
  22. She is a Non-theist who took her oath of office on a copy of the Constitution. A Democrat, she is the first Congresswoman in AZ’s new 9th District.

    22
  23. Thanks, JJ. I tweeted this blog post plus the original NBC article to my Twitter followers. This is fraud, pure and simple. How are they getting away with this? Surely it’s illegal, this kind of deception and misrepresentation in order to trick people into making contributions to their opponent’s campaign.
