Fun With Guns: S’Mores Edition
Riverside County, California.
A big tough guy who wanted to show little girls that this is still America, pulled a gun on a Girl Scout selling cookie at his front door.
A press release from the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office that the father of the girl, who is a minor, contacted authorities after he saw 59-year-old John Dodrill point the gun at his daughter while she was selling cookies door-to-door on Sunday.
“When the victim knocked on the suspect’s door, he opened the door and pointed a gun at her,” the release said.
I’m trying to think of the appropriate punishment for this but everything I can think of involves Medieval instruments and I think that’s against the law in California.
I will tell you this. Had that happened with my daddy, they’d be calling 59-year-old John Dodrill “Limpin’ John” for the rest of his life.
Thanks to everybody for the heads up.
Is nothing sacred?
1Guns, Zxyomma, guns.
2While this is a terrible story and will likely make me go ahead and buy those Thin Mints I REALLY shouldn’t . . . what struck me is the picture of this man. The anger that is burnished into his face, the wild hair, the white T-shirt. A classic Fox News viewer if I ever saw one.
3On a positive note (if there is one) police took his weapon(s) and he is being charged. Sure it will mean a fine but we do have actual laws here that will cost him a lot more than a box of GS cookies – I’m betting they go over his weapons to make sure they are legal, end up keeping them forever or a good while so he’ll have to go to a gun show and shell out even more money to replace them — but looking at the photo all he would have to do is post his photo on the door and everyone would leave him alone. This will end up costing him time and $$$$$$$$ because there’s a rumor that lawyers cost money too.
4Could have been a bad situation. Thank goodness her dad was walking with her and reported the incident to the police.
Paranoid Guy should lose his weapon, and his permit to have one.
Little Girl Scout, maybe a table at the local supermarket?
5Maybe he was part of the boycott movement.
Or maybe he saw a sign closer to his home like one by a store that sells guns and ammo near where I live (Oklahoma). It had STOP … GIRL SCOUT COOKIES in the largest letters on the sign. Most likely the smaller letters, not so easy to read driving past, say something like “…here for …” but without looking closer one could misinterpret.
6But Marlene, with what crime can he be charged? Given the current interpretation of the Second Amendment, anyone, standing at his front door, can probably get away with waving a gun in the face of anyone, including a police officer or a child. Of course, if the police officer or child shoots the homeowner, perhaps she or he can raise a Second Amendment defense and walk. Why hell, Dodrill looks like he needs shootin! And there is always the time honored, unwritten defense of a public service shooting.
7A serious congratulations to the father of the young girl for not escalating the situation into a tragedy. Hope he sues the socks off this guy in civil court for the trauma inflicted on his daughter.
Second hope would be the the judge commits this guy for a psychiatric evaluation that results in him losing all gun privileges.
8So his stand your ground defense would be, “I was defending myself against a girl scout”? Can’t believe any judge or jury would fall for that.
9This guy has serious issues, not the least of which is his mean nasty face.
Dodrill’s conduct will be vigorously defended by the NRA. His is the face of the NRA: Neanderthal Redneck A**hole.
10maryelle: Judges and juries have fallen for rapists of young girls claiming that the girl was at fault and was “in control” of the older, bigger, stronger male. There are judges and juries who are NRA members and convinced that Scouting (overall) is a socialist enterprise. I no longer trust any part of the mis-named “justice” system. You can get lucky, or you can get Ken Anderson (well, you can’t now, but you can get Ken Anderson’s clones in every state in the nation, ditto the clones of the judges who’ve said it’s the kid’s fault she got raped.)
11The very least this rethuglican should get charged with is terrorism for scaring the stuff out of unsuspecting, legally prddling,Girl Scouts. After a lengthy jail sentence he should get the Medieval treatment as JJ suggested.
12We had Ronnie Ray-gun as governor and no gun laws but then some nice young Black Panthers showed up in Sacramento to attend a public forum and they had AK’s. Within a very short time frame Ronnie Ray-gun was revived from his faint and laws were passed. True they have been weakened but fortunately the GOP has not been able to wreck havoc since this state is mostly BLUE, BLUE, BLUE. Anyway this is what was reported in that local paper:
A California man was taken into custody over the weekend after he allegedly pulled a gun on a young Girl Scout who was selling cookies.
Dodrill was taken into custody for suspected assault with a deadly weapon. His firearm was confiscated as evidence, the sheriff’s office said.
The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office has asked anyone with information about the case to call Officer Garcia #4162 at the Southwest Sheriff’s Station at 951-696-3000.
13Now that was one buzzed hungover face on an insomniac body addicted to FOX 24/7 if I ever saw one. It ain’t only a certain loud noise aimed at you forever in a locked room with no lights that will drive ya round the bend. Damn glad he got took by Johnny Law and made to face the music! Around these parts, no matter how peaceful it looks, it is considered unwise to let anyone go door to door selling cookies, brushes or even Bibles. Most times no one is home or will even answer the bell. Supermarket sites are definitely best.
14Oh my.
From his Twitter account:
John Dodrill @johndodrill 11 Feb 2011
@seanhackbarth “Ron Paul: “Force never works.” Let’s ask a mugger.” Good call!!
Isn’t that special?
15Awww, c’mon, Mr. Dodrill (R-teaparty) was just wanting to give a lesson in “Family Values™” and gun safety to that vicious little commie Girl Scout.
Plus earning some brownie points towards ‘The Rapture’ (the only ‘gates’ this arsehole is gonna see are made of asbestos, not pearl).
™ Republican Party
16Some daddies would have turned him into “the late John Dodrill.” Probably a good thing for John that the Girl Scout daddy wasn’t so prone to gun worship and apparently wasn’t carrying.
17RE: “Had that happened with my daddy, they’d be calling 59-year-old John Dodrill “Limpin’ John” for the rest of his life.”
I agree. My only Girl Scout is now 23 and working on her masters’ but if that had happened to her 10 or 15 years ago some how they wouldn’t have been able to identify that guy with dental records.
18What?
What?!
WHAT???!*
* incoherent string of loud verbiage
19So,
If father of the scout had fired first, who would the second ammendment deemed correct?
This
Is
LUNACY!!!
20This is terrifying. I mean, maybe the guy had just lost his job and was about to have his house foreclosed on (find out where his mortgage is) but he shouldn’t take it out on little girls. I betcha that there will be cartoons on this one. There also might oughta be some sort of hotline that folks like that can call, if the phone hasn’t been disconnected and he couldn’t pay his cell bill and he got his disability taken away and no food stamps. We gotta do something about this stupid economy. Grow a garden. Help our neighbors. Whatever.
21and I haven’t seen GS cookies at HEB lately; lots of stores won’t let you table in front of them any more.
