Fun With Guns: Keep Your Pants On Edition
In Tennessee, Deputy David Caldwell was dispatched to William Rood’s house and found he bleeding around the face and neck.
Caldwell said Rood told him he had a .25 caliber Baretta pistol in the right front pocket of his pants. He took the pants off and placed them on his dresser, at which time the Baretta discharged, striking Rood in the chin. It was believed the bullet was still in Rood’s neck.
Rood will be okay. His pants and reputation, not so much.
Now if he’d just taken the trouble to hang up his pants…..or unloaded and secured his gun…
1Another moron learns a lesson, or NOT.
seems like half the gun stories involve guns in pants pockets. Pockets aren’t made to hold guns. I have spoken.
2I do wish these media types would specify model of weapon in their stories. Some Berettas, even in cal .25, have grip safeties that must be squeezed in order to discharge normally. Of course that does not rule out inoperative weapons or weapons modified to circumvent the safety.
3According to the Johnson City (TN) Press, “Rood was transported to nearby Elizabethton Airport, where he was transported by helicopter to the Johnson City Medical Center.”
Wow. The road distance between Stoney Creek and the Johnson City Medical Center is 16.5 miles. It’s in the mountainous eastern part of the state and normal driving time would be 30 minutes, perhaps less with en emergency vehicle. Doesn’t seem like much time would be saved with the helicopter.
So if you’re going to accidentally shoot yourself, do it in eastern Tennessee and you, too can get a helicopter ride. Probably no air miles, though.
4It’s really a shame, a crying shame I say, that he wasn’t wearing them.
5There went the punchline-is that a gun in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? Apparently he ticked off his gun and it was trying to kill him.
6I, for one, hope it hurt like hell!
7Wingnuts apparently think a gun in their pocket is close enough to their brain to protect it. Hey louie, there is a drip on the end of your brain, how about a little heat and light to dry it,huh?
