Damn Near Perfect Weekend

October 13, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We had our State Democratic Executive Committee meeting this weekend in Galveston, Texas, and a fundraiser the night before featuring the Legends of Democratic Politics – past and future – and Senator Wendy Davis.

Yes, I took this picture with my phone. And yes, those are my tennis shoes.

There was standing room only in the ballroom and excitement I have not seen since Ann Richards ran for Governor.  People paid $100 a person – with all proceeds going to the Texas Democratic Party – even to stand at the back and hear her speak.

She did not disappoint.  She spoke about education, health care for Texans, bring business to Texas (without it being a Presidential tour at taxpayer expense, I suspect), and making Texas great again.

On the podium during her speech sat my tennis shoes that I wore to Austin at the first rally after Wendy stood up.  She signed them and we auctioned them for $1,350.  So, if you think you’re cool, you are not even near cool until Wendy Davis signs your tennis shoes and they bring $1,350 to the Texas Democratic Party.

Just so you know, Judge Steven Kirkland said that I am cool and since he is the bona fide arbiter of all things cool, it is damn official.

Be social and share!

We already know how cool you are. That’s why we hang here with YourOwnCoolSelf.

    Go Wendy!

  3. We have never doubted for a moment that you are the essence of cool.

    3
  4. Two Texans make my day Every day – Wendy Davis for her bravery, her intelligence, and her honesty. Louie Gohmert is the other Texan because he makes me laugh and continues to lower the tone of the Republican Party, if that’s possible. As a Democrat I say “go, Louie”. We don’t have any people that funny in California.

What an honor to have your tennies sign by Wendy and sold for such a prodigious amount! That is so way cool on all accounts!

  6. Marion (formerly known as MM) says:

I’m wowed! Your very own tennis shoes traded in for good money for the Dems. Good going, JJ!

I ordered a pair just like it from REI and they tell me they’ve arrived. Now I just need to find the right sox to go with and I’ll go get them.

Maybe one of these days I’ll have an opportunity to sell mine too!

You are the indisputable Queen of Swag and Cool Auction Items. And all this time I thought you bought those tennies to wear yourself…I should have known you were thinking ahead! Way to go! Texas is looking more Blue every day.

  8. And I thought it was just that the air conditioning in the salon was set on “polar bear”.

    8
  9. …And I’ll bet you took them off after you got home from Austin, and have only worn flip-flops since, right? These are not stinkay ol’ tennies for real.

    9
  10. What a cool thing for a really cool Democratic woman to do! You are the best.

Now we all gotta come up with our best stories to send to Wendy so she can tell them at all her fund-raisers! If you haven’t gotten an email about it, just send your story that she can share to http://action.wendydavistexas.com. And Marion formerly known as MM, be sure and wear your pink sneakers to South Travis United Democrats this coming Tuesday night at 6 pm, Brick Oven, Slaughter at Brodie, in way way south Austin. We’ll need to take a picture of them for our Facebook page!
