Fun With Guns: Dr. Feelbad Edition

October 02, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

In Kentucky, the story goes like this.  David Kollar saw a reckless driver driving in the emergency lane of a freeway and then try to force his way into traffic.  In short, he was cutting in line and driving erratically.

David whipped out his phone and began to tape this crazy driver.  And then ….

“The window comes down, he pulls up a gun and fires, almost immediately he fires. As soon as I see the gun come up I just hit the brake and he missed me,” said Kollar who kept his camera rolling.

And there’s a picture of it.

So, Kollar pulls over and calls the police.  They find the guy where he lives in Indiana.  Where he is a doctor.

Screen Shot 2013-10-02 at 12.36.42 PMPolice tell us that Dobyns works at the Branchville Correctional Facility, in Branchville, Indiana. WKYT contacted a local Sheriff’s office who told us that Dobyns is actually the prison’s doctor.

Odds look pretty good that they need to count the drug cabinet.

He plead not guilty and was given a $2,500 bond.

“Wow. Wow, that’s a little scary,” reacted Kollar, after hearing the suspect was a doctor. “Certainly the guy that’s driving in the left lane (shoulder), passing people and shooting at people on the interstate needs to be off the road.”

Please tell me that they didn’t let him drive home.  And that the next black guy who gets arrested for firing a shot on the freeway at a driver gets a $2,500 bond.

Thanks to Marcia for the heads up.

Here’s your headline,”NRA claims Liberals want to deny doctors their 2nd Amendment rights after a doctor was alleged to have fired a pistol at another motorist. Liberals immediately assumed the doctor was trying to hurt or kill someone and if there is any actual film available,Liberals have taken it out of context. Liberals hate guns and doctors. Vote them out. In further news, the NRA’s staff OB-GYN is working with various gun manufacturers and fertility experts to develop a contraceptive device that allows future fetii to be conceived with a gun in each hand,as is their birthright.

According to the article you linked to he was arrested for wanton endangerment and is in jail.

I must say I’ve done some crazy things driving when people pissed me off, but none of them included a gun. I started containing my anger after someone who cut me off (then I passed him and cut him off) started following me one night. That’s when I realized I had no idea where the police stations in Austin where. After a bit of consideration, I pulled into an emergency room driveway of the hospital and was not followed there.

Also, in Texas, pissed drivers often have their guns on their gun racks in their trucks.

I’m much more sedate now when people drive rudely. It has something to do with self-preservation and, of course, it’s better to just have one lunatic driving than two – for everyone’s safety.

Dobyns looks like he could be related to Karl [Ham] Rove … same smucky look that seems to say: I can shoot ya if I want to!

  4. So much for “Scared Straight” programs, the guy works in a prison for heaven’s sake, and he still breaks the law?

    4
  5. @M(): One of my sons once flipped the bird at someone who cut him off. They proceeded to follow him, making threats. He stopped and got out to confront them. Two guys got out, one with a tire iron, one with a chain. He got back in his car and didn’t stop until he got to a police station. The next day he got a license & a handgun and has been a 100% gun-nut ever since. His association with other 2nd-amendment fans in the next year or so led him further and further right. Now he’s full-blown Libertarian. 🙁

The scary thing is the expression on that doctor’s face in his car. An utterly blank stare, as he’s squeezing off a round with that pistol, doing his best to kill somebody. I can promise you that there are people out there whose main concern is that the good doc might lose some of his 2nd Amendment rights over this incident. And a $2500 bond, sitting like a cherry on top of this pile of events. Lord help us all.

    7
  8. At least he’ll have lots of acquaintances in jail.

  9. Often times there’s a very thin line between the keepers and the inmates. I once worked with a clinical psychologist whose first job after he finished his doctorate was at a Federal prison in Texas. He said some of the strangest people he met were employees.

    9
  10. I had somebody who thought I’d blocked his merge (because there was a lot more room behind me than in front of me, and I didn’t want to brake in traffic to let him in) zoom around in front of me, slow down to a crawl, then stop on a one-lane ramp and get out of the car. I shut my window and locked my doors. He did his little dance of rage, screaming things I couldn’t hear, while I wrote down his license number. Cars were piling up behind me. Finally he got back in his car and went the way I wasn’t going, though I would have avoided his direction anyway.

Man, I was glad that jackwagon didn’t have a gun, but I’m sure he would have shot me. No, I didn’t go get one.

I also wonder why the drivers who are such a hurry that they have to endanger my life suddenly seem to have plenty of time to play games to make sure they “win”. All I want to do is stay alive, thank you very much.

I used to slow down the way they tell you to if someone is tailgating. I still do that sometimes on a slow road but not on the highway. A friend of mine told me about her crazy father who got mad at anyone in front of him who wasn’t going fast enough. Once he rammed a bus. Ever since then I just stay out of the way of that kind of folks and let the police deal with it.

    11
  12. I hope news reporters continue to investigate this doctor & report their findings. This man is seriously deluded into believing he is James Bond, watched too many spy-type movie maybe. You can bet your best boots he’s deeply involved in gun-obsessed conspiracy groups. His actions certainly fit the description of a domestic terrorist, which I hope the local news picks up on so they can charge him accordingly. Reminds me of Timothy McVeigh had he lived longer & Terry Nichols all rolled into one.

    Creepy and scary.

Kentucky is embarrassed, Indiana not so much. I live in Kentucky and much of my family is in central and southern Indiana. I know this mind set.
I want to win the lottery so I can move to Vermont. What’s not to love. Bernie Sanders, Ben and Jerry’s and if it gets really bad I can go to Canada.

This guy has a history of substance abuse and several disciplinary actions. Also is/was Family Practictioner.

    15
  16. Needs to be disciplined and his license to practice medicine revoked. Nuts with guns. It’s out of control…and there’s nothing we can do about it.

I live in Illinois within 10 miles of Indiana. This does not surprise me, in the least. Check website provided by platypus, this ‘doctor’ is in need of a doctor.

  18. Uncle Dave says:

The following is a warning to all non-Texans who are visitors to our, truly wonderful in most ways, state. Assume all exhibitors of road rage are armed. Better, assume everybody you see in Texas is armed. And if you are from New York City and are accustomed to honking your horn as soon as the light turns green, don’t! That is considered rude in Texas, and in Texas perceived rudeness can lead to gunfire. If I have offended any New Yorkers, get over it. I love your city, but I have observed your drivers.

    18
  19. The doctor will most likely claim ‘stand your ground’ status. How could this be you ask? I think the doctor will claim that the driver taking his picture was pointing a gun in his direction. Hence, the doctor was only practicing self defense. The other drivers on the road who would have been affected had he shot the driver taking his picture would have been simply considered collateral damage.

    19
  20. A prison is the only place his “bedside” manner would allow his practice to survive. All you writers out there, here’s the star of a new novel.

    20
  21. Wow, e platypus onion, that guy shouldn’t be walking the streets, let alone practicing medicine.
His stare is the same as Walter White’s from Breaking Bad, who eliminated anyone in his way.

    21
  22. e platypus onion says:

maryelle-the dude probably shouldn’t be allowed to have a handgun, either. Really surprised his record was made public. A nice long rest in pinstripes might do some good.

    22
  23. How is he driving?
1 Hand pointing pistol and one hand pushing down button on electric windows ( I assume) so steering with his 3rd hand?

    23
  24. Moms Hugs aka Eve, it has gone further. The “Pistol” was a toy BB gun.E platypus onion, he was not on drugs. SteveTheReturned, the gun was not actually fired. The man who filmed this went straight to the nearest TV network. Not the police, the TV. What does that tell you?
Yes the Doc was incredibly stupid and reckless, but this does not warrant his punishment, and charges are likely to be dropped.

    24
  25. e platypus onion says:

Whoa,MWF. I never said he was on drugs. I said he has a record of drug abuse. A BB gun is considered a firearm as it fires a projectile. Any place you are not allowed a firearm,BB guns are prohibited, too. I imagine just the act of pointing a gun could/should be considered a terrorist threat and what would have happened if the guy who videoed had been an off duty police officer? Your doctor would probably be dead or at the very least in jail for attempted assault of a police officer. Regardless of what transpired, this is conduct unbecoming of a professional.

    25
  26. What kind of person serves as an apologist for a road-rager who fires a gun – any kind of gun – at another driver?
