It Could Happen
Look, I’m not saying that God is getting even for the State of Colorado’s recall election over guns, guns, we want more guns election.
I’m not saying that because I don’t believe that God extracts justice that way. However the right wing does. So …. maybe you gotta believe them.
.
I allowed myself to think that thought too, but then realized it was the Repug way.
1So I said a prayer for them to become enlightened cause “…they know not what they do.”
I just hope that a lot of those guns get lost under water.
Waiting to hear from my cousin in Boulder.
2They can use their stockpile of guns to prevent flooding.
3Not only CO y’all, New Mex in trouble too! Water 8′ over road in one instance!
5 yrs ago today GLS and HOU were being battered by Ike. Some things STILL not fixed!
4What is going on here in CO is a very late arriving monsoonal flow that hits us by way of New Mexico, so they are getting hit really bad as well. What is going on here is not something to be taken lightly. It is, in fact, quite frightening to those who are losing everything and for those who never considered themselves to be in a “flood zone” and who do not have flood insurance!
Last year we had the Waldo Canyon fire; earlier this year we had the Black Forest fire; and now … the damned monsoonal rains that are another huge kick in the teeth to those dealing with the torrents of water coming off the burn scars and there is no stopping it!!
5Marge Wood … have you heard from your cousin in Boulder? Geez … they were hit so hard!! I hope they are OK.
Check Channels 5, 11 and 13 for some of the videos that have been posted …

7Flash flooding is both dangerous and messy. Bless those folks who are stuck in the middle of this.
8I remember riding through Big Thompson canyon (sheer rock cliffs on both sides) and seeing signs that said “in case of high water, climb to high ground”.
9Nasty, grim stuff. Alas, the flooding all seems to be in the blue parts of the state. The red voters are more likely to live in the plains.
10The recent fires have definitely made things much worse than usual, but I’ve watched CO for 70+ years and have repeatedly seen folks build in places where where there is obvious evidence of floods and/or avalanches.
If you drive thru Turkey Creek canyon outside Denver, you can see the high-water marks – and homes built lower down the hillside, presumably by people who are either blind or stupid. Every so often a flash flood wipes them out and they either rebuild or sell to the next sucker who can’t recognize a flood zone.
11Still waiting. Logging off now. See y’all later.
12Marge Wood …
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, several residences have been lost and 20 people are possibly missing.
I sure hope you can contact your cousin!!
@Elizabeth … Nah … red voters are scattered all over, not just out on the plains where a tornado might pick them up and send them on their way! It was the red voters in CO Springs and Pueblo who managed to oust John Morse and Angela Giron the other day … lots of redneck, gun toting red voters and some blue voters who bought the scare tactics that their 2nd Amendment rights were/are being violated!!
@RayS … there are always those hard-to-convince folks who will not budge from their beloved homesites because of rampaging fires [out in CA, too] or raging waters! Just like the folks who hang on in Tornado Alley and where the hurricanes go. They either live to tell the tale or die trying!
@June Bug … that sign is still there … it’s in the video I posted the link to.
13Shocked, I’m shocked to learn “water runs downhill”.
14Good Colorado flood coverage @
http://kunc.org/post/front-range-braces-against-widespread-rain-biblical-flooding
It updates a lot so refresh often.
Their coverage at:
http://storify.com/KUNC/colorado-flooding-9-13
is good also.
Having lived through the Big Thompson thing in 76 (I was on a mountain side just south of the canyon) and the earlier 65 flood, I know what they are going through. It is worse now because those areas have really grown since then.
15It’s a shame as was God’s other flood.
16Yes, large resort development going in down at the West End of Galveston Island, ruining one of the nicest wild places that we had left, and it was free. If you think I’m going to waste any tears and sympathy on a bunch of fools who build where there’s not even a modicum of protection from Mother Nature’s cyclic temper tantrums-but just wait and see how fast they go running hat in hand and crying to the federal gubmint for help! Just wait-because in these parts, it’s not “if” it’s “when”!!
17Cousin having some flooding in the basement but basically doing okay.
18Marge Wood … whew … glad to read your cousin is OK … more rain coming later on today or by now … 4:06 p.m. … they could be getting more even now.
19I heard something about a dam giving way or over-topping. Does anyone know anything about that?
20In related Colorado gun news: http://us.cnn.com/2013/09/08/justice/colorado-teen-accidental-shooting/?iref=obinsite
21@ marge wood so happy your cousin ok!
22I was in Lyons 3 weeks ago. I had friends there. They are homeless now. It had nothing to do with guns.
The recall was two hundred miles south of Lyons.
God’s aim is not that bad.
23First of all, prayers for the people of Colorado, but folks, when the TV people keep saying the floods were of biblical proportions, the thought that comes to me is ‘ Now what would Pat Robertson say? He always comes up with God’s punishment for something or other!
24Robertson’s god only punishes libs and Gays and the ACLU. For the wealthy when bad things happen it is the work of the devil plus the other three usual suspects.
25The flooding is bad and pretty wide spread but of biblical proportion … uhhhhh … I don’t think so. Even our local news folks haven’t totally blown it out of proportion! If it was that huge, lots of folks would be sitting on top of Pike’s Peak waiting to see a dove fly by with an olive twig in its beak! There are a lot of folks unaccounted for in the Boulder area and hopefully they simply moved to higher ground … probably not to Pike’s Peak since it is super cold up there and I think it snowed up there, as well.
26Biblical proportions? C’mon, people. Even the flood in the Bible was no doubt exaggerated by the scribes of the time. It’s a natural event and tragic for those affected, the end. And, in case you think I am just another uncaring East Coast atheist, I too have a cousin living in Boulder and haven’t heard from her yet.
27PS Anyone mention the fact that the rethugs blocked funds for the repair of dams – which I believe are breaking.
28@ Joan – THAT would be Karma if only the repugs involved were flooded out. Instead it’s a fatal mix of malfeasance and incompetence and the usual everyday people are the ones suffering!
