And Aren’t We in Good Company?
The Texas National Guard is refusing to process same-gender benefits, even through they have a directive from the pentagon to do so. The reason? Texas doesn’t recognize same-sex marriage.
Well hell, we don’t recognize literacy either but that doesn’t keep me from going to the bookstore and buying a book.
Last count, there are 50 states. Only two of them are violating federal law – Texas and Mississippi. What a pair! Two places that lead the country in everything you’d like to keep a secret.
Thanks to Al and Sherry for the heads up.
And both of those states were on the losing end when they tried to take on the federal government last time 150 years ago. What makes them think it will work this time.
1What’s that definition of insanity again?
Fighting the civil war, one day at a time.
2Would someone please explain to the National Guard about the word “national”. I’m willing to bet the feds foot their bills, therefore they’re supposed to do what the feds say.
3Good grief.
4We don’ wanna, we don’ hafta, and we’re gonna hold our breath till we turn… blue?
5They sassed the freakin’ Pentagon? I used to work there. E-Ring. Good view of a parking lot. Boy! Are these guys suicidal or what! Just stay clear of them when the hammer drops on their heads.
6eyesoars: They don’t acknowledge the Civil War. It has been renamed the War of Northern Aggression. So add ‘denial of reality’ to their long list of issues.
I know Eric holder and DOJ have their hands full dealing with the voter id laws in Texas, but something tells me they’re going to get around to the National Guard problem soon.
7Ah, Rhea, one can only hope!
8I imagine there were similar people saying and doing similar things back when interracial marriage was illegal in some states. The good news is that they lost and they will lose.
9Son says I should ‘splain about that hammer thing. OK. Here goes. National Guard units are routinely called up to do duty overseas in some really nasty hot spots. Iraq. Afghanistan. Pick one. Thats the hammer that could fall on the TX National Guard. Considering their current behavior, are they ready for deployment?
