Thank You, Colorado, For Lifting the Heavy Load

August 23, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

It’s reassuring to us Texans when some foreign state’s Republicans lift the Stoopid Load off of Texas.

Vicki Marble: Pass the Chitlins

There’s Colorado, where Colorado State Senator Vicki Marble seems to have lost hers.

Prepare yourself.

“When you look at life expectancy, there are problems in the black race,” Marble said during a meeting of the legislature’s Economic Opportunity Poverty Reduction Task Force. “Sickle-cell anemia is something that comes up. Diabetes is something that’s prevalent in the genetic makeup, and you just can’t help it. Although I’ve got to say, I’ve never had better barbecue and better chicken and ate better in my life than when you go down South and you, I mean, I love it. Everybody loves it.”

Now, mind yourself, because this is a woman who is on the state’s “Economic Opportunity Poverty Reduction Task Force” and she thinks sickle cell anemia comes from fried chicken.

But she is not content to racially stereotype just African Americans.  No, siree, she’s on a roll.

Marble continued, “The Mexican diet in Mexico with all of the fresh vegetables, and you go down there and they are much thinner than they are up here. They’ve changed their diet. I’ve read studies on that.”

And when even her fellow Republicans reacted poorly to her statements, she was not backing down.

“My comments were not meant to be disparaging to any community,” she said. “I am saddened they were taken in that regard.

She didn’t say anything wrong, and now she’ll obviously have to add fried catfish and tortillas to her list of foods that cause people to misunderstand things.

Thanks to Brian for the heads up.

I think I have to agree with you, Sam! I would have expected those remarks from Michelle Bachman, or someone in FL, MS, or AL… I have a feeling my Colorado friends are ‘somewhat’ embarrassed.. But, for once, Texas IS ‘off the hook’!

  3. There’s a scene in the movie When Harry Met Sally, when they are at a restaurant and Sally “explains” a situation to Harry. A customer at a nearby table who can’t help but overhear tells her waiter, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

After listening to Vicki Marble, I’m gonna do the opposite. I’ll pass on the Koolaid she’s drinking. Or whatever it is she’s drinking.

She’s young. Maybe she’ll improve with age.

  5. I LOVE these southern gals that say these totally abhorrent things, toss their hair, blink twice, and they say ” that’s not what I meant REALLY.” When YES it was…or else YOU need to be reading more information, and not something put out by the CATO Institute.
TN is filled with ’em…..and I’m tired of being related to them…

  6. donquijoterocket says:

@Marge Woods- I don’t think I’d count on that. Those sorts don’t improve with much of anything and certainly not with age which is only likely to make her even more bitter and close-minded.

  7. donquijoterocket says:

I’d ask Juanita if she’s sure congressclown Marble is not a transplanted Texan? Colorado has a lot of those.

  8. @MW: People are like wine:
Age mellows the good ones and sours the bad ones.

She’s only a few years short of being vinegar.

BTW: Colorado used to be sane until the Righteous Ones set up shop in Colorado Springs and took over the state’s politics.

Too bad for hateful Whitey that he/she can’t eat soul food and actually have a soul to save.

  12. Wonder if this dimbulb knows that neither sickle cell anemia nor Diabetes II are not “black race” diseases? Sickle cell anemia is an inherited trait which is prevalent in areas where malaria is a problem. It appears to be protection from malaria. Further, most of the people I know with NIDDM are white. It’s a problem in the white community, too.

From the looks of her ,she doesn’t eat meat cuz she’s a vetranarian, duh.

  14. Er, um–

“A United Nations report released last month put Mexico’s obesity rate at 32.8 percent of adults, just above 31.8 percent in the United States, making Mexico the fattest country in the Western Hemisphere excluding Belize and some small Caribbean Islands.”

  15. Yes, Marcia . . . the Eastern plains are a bit different then where you and I live. However, COS does have Focus on der Family but that too is east and north of where I live. We are having a stupid recall election here in September and I intend to vote no across the board since some of those on that ballot are either not up for re-election or the term limits are going to negate any reason for recall. Duh oh!

Why do all these Republic wimmenfolk look like they are waiting in a casting call line for an old ’50’s-’80’s Hollywood horror film? I mean like Ms. Marblebrains, Callista, Vickie, Michelle B, Liz C, etc., etc.; shudder…

  20. Marion (formerly known as MM) says:

My understanding is that diabetes is mostly related to diet and exercise. Poverty and stress (from, say, racism) means you are looking for more calories for less money, which translates into food that’s not as healthy for you. Working two or three jobs and taking care of a family can also leave little time for exercise.

So while it may well be true that blacks and Hispanics have more disease and die younger, the first culprit is probably poverty and structural racism.

    20
  21. Marion (formerly known as MM) says:

    My oh my!

As pretty much of a newcomer here, I just wrote my first comment that went directly to comments and not to moderation first. Whoop de doo! Thank you for your trust, Juanita Jean.

Hah! Now I got to be more careful. Before, knowing I was being moderated I wasn’t too exacting about saying something that might be offensive to your mama, but now, I got to stand up on my hind legs and watch myself.

    21
  22. ¡Que pendeja! (I hope Momma doesn’t speak Spanish)… the diabetes problem here is blamed on U.S. imported junk food…

    22
  23. @JaneE … Well, COS and Focus on the … oh that’s right, Family … is just up Hwy. 115 from me. With those nimrods doing the recall on Giron and Morse … you’ve seen the ads of who might end up being the reps up that way! OMG … glad to know you’ll be voting NO all the way. I’m not involved in that recall since I’m not in the county or districts for that … but I still think it is blatently stooooopid!!

    23
  24. Somebody should ask her why women get more hysterectomies than men. Throw her for a loop…

    24
  25. I wish I could be funny about this, but I don’t know how. As far as the Southwest (which includes Mexico) is concerned: it’s been shown that the native population (meaning before the Europeans showed up), had developed the ability to store fat in anticipation of famine. When’s the last time there was a famine in these parts? But, the ability to store fat has remained. It’s just “unfortunate” that that stupido, cretino blond &(**(& is working on “misinformation.” Besides being in possession of heart black as coal, that is.

    25
  26. mike from iowa says:

BarbinDC-depends on whose definition of famine you seek. For one party the elapsed time between taxcuts for the wealthy is the worst famine ever. As for storing fat,in nutjobs it is stored in their heads. See Gov. Perry’s head for example. Ity exudes copious amounts of grease(fat). By law he can’t go swimming for fear of an oilslick.

    26
  27. She’s a bleached blond, too. If she were a natural blond she would never have said – or thought – anything so stupid. It’s that bleach that makes tiny holes in the scalp and scull that allows the stupid to seep in.

    27
  28. CerealCitySue says:

Lord help us all. I don’t think that poor woman would be helped by a list of facts, a couple of handouts, or even a textbook or two. She is also incapable of stringing together…let me check…okay, better than I thought…two grammatically correct sentences in a row. Annnd…she seems to be surprised that these statements are racist? Really? That is so, so sad.

I feel sorry for her friends and family. At least some of them must be embarrassed.

    28
  29. Gee, I wonder what diet she’s on that made her so brilliant.

Welcome ya 3 ta 5’ers i checked late or early dependent on your clock. What a fun cluster of thinkers.

  31. My goodness, the R Bimbettes just keep crawling out of the woodwork, or from under rocks, or from, like, 5th grade or something. Her website says she is committed to the Constitution and Bill of Rights and “protecting your rights”. Her comments lead me to suspect she hasn’t read said documents. That, or her reading comprehension skills sorely need some work.

    31
  32. She ain’t all that young, either, just trying to hang on to the cheerleader look she outgrew years ago. WAY not young enough to get a pass for her idiot ideas.

    32
  33. Vicki, darlin’! What black race? Ain’t no white race, either! Its all one human race. Sounds like you swallowed all the racist swill fed to you over the years. Result: you throw in the clutch on your mouth before checking your brain. That’s a skill you need to develop if you don’t want bad feedback. And research, honey! The real thing. Not the stuff that is only as deep as cardboard. Honestly, darlin’, I don’t think you really want to give blonds a bad name. Meanwhile, better luck next time when you open your mouth and word salad falls out.

    33
  34. Bless her heart. She was saddened that her disparaging comments were taken as – well, disparaging. I suppose we need to stop taking the English language so literally. Republicans are always saying the most godawful stuff and later telling us they didn’t mean the words that actually came out of their mouths. They need to at least quit whining. Either shut up or man up when their stupidity is exposed.

    34
  35. Don A in Pennsyltucky says:

It’s too bad that she didn’t address her comments to finding ways to increase life expectancy instead of simply bemoaning it as if there wasn’t damn-all that anyone could do about it.

    35
  36. gabberflasted says:

JaneE at comment fifteen. “stupid recall”!? Methinks we could use some of those across the nation.

    36
  37. @gabberflasted . . . this particular recall election is truly a wasted effort in most respects due to the reasons I stated. And, I know, there are many stupids that need to be recalled. Funnily enough, CO is very conservative and it always surprises me that we manage to be blue in the most important levels of elected officials. One of the people Marcia mentioned is on the ballot because of the new gun legislation our Democratic Governor Hickenlooper managed to get approved. Big issue here in CO.

  38. Anne Latham says:

Another successful graduate of the Michele Bachmann School of Charm and Public Policy.

    38
  39. @Anne Latham–I *love* it!

    39
  40. @Katie Johnsonius–Useful information, and thanks for the link, but does greater prevalence of diabetes among blacks indicate issues with “genetic makeup” or, as Marion suggests, possibly the cultural and economic factors that Rs seem to exacerbate instead of alleviating for blacks (and whites, for that matter)?

Yeah, I know we have lots of poor whites that also could (and probably should, statistically) be developing diabetes for the same reasons, but I have an idea there’s still a lot of cultural/economic bias here…

    40
  41. RepubAnon says:

You have to love people that want to ban teaching evolution in schools and come up with this “it must be genetic” silliness.

Given some of the alleged humans on this planet, I’d rather be related to monkeys.
