Okay, So How About ReRuns? Would Anybody Notice?
Republicans, who can’t seem to get along with anybody, have taken the hatchet to CNN and NBC to broadcast their upcoming Presidential debates.
It is unknown how much CNN and NBC had to pay to get this done but I bet it was about the same as landing on Boardwalk with two hotels.
I don’t guess the GOP considered that this frees up CNN and NBC to just run the outtakes from the debates. You know, when Rick Perry forgets his middle name or Ted Cruz tries to explain that the birther argument does not apply to Cuban Canadians. Or when the studio catches fire and Rand Paul won’t let anybody call the socialist fire department and suggests that everybody just spit on the fire instead.
Or, maybe they could run Shark Week opposite the debates and nobody would notice the difference.
All in all, it appears that cranky old men are getting crankier.
They are still grumpy that Eisenhower beat Taft because of his better use of television in 1952
1If Hillary Clinton runs, then her Repub opponent will be comparatively unknown. For the GOP to do their best to make sure he (I’m assuming he) will stay unknown is an interesting tactic.
2The Republicans also voted not to have the swimsuit competition, either.
3NO SWIMSUIT COMPETITION! Sheesh. What is the world coming to.
4I understand they want Rush or some other similar gasbag to moderate their debate.
The Republican party: the joke that keeps you laughing!
5I wonder if the GOP has finally figured out that the less we hear from them, the better they sound…
6Whatever will I do without my dose of the clown car?
7Damn I enjoy the comments from the folks that write to Juanita Jean’s. Besides, it’s uplifting to know that there are people that could actually understand my frustrations at the right-wing-nuts that are working their way to fall off the edge of the earth.
Speaking of Rush; if he does moderate their debates, I hope that modern medicine did a good enough job on his anal-fistula (that kept his chicken-hawk ass out of the draft), and it doesn’t erupt in the middle of a mentally straining conservative topic! Would be ugly….just saying.
8Just had a friend claim that Cruz’s birth scenario was identical to Obama’s. Yeah, except for the fact that Cruz was born in a different country, acquired birthright citizenship in that country at birth, and was a citizen of that country due to his father being a naturalized citizen of the country where he was born. The only thing “identical” is that Cruz and Obama both had American mothers.
9I have an idea. A recent poll showed Republicans have lost a significant share of retired voters this year. Although they can’t entirely block Republican Primary debates from older Americans as payback for their lack of support, they could pull the cameras way back so candidates can only be seen by people with 20/20 vision, and turn the microphones down to a whisper. That’ll show those ungrateful social security recipients they mean business. (And the candidates will also realistically match the size of their ideas.)
10Seems to me NBC and CNN are the winners in this deal. There are many viewers who would just as soon view only the highlights or low- lights as the case may be, but sitting through hours of the same rants we’ve been hearing in Congress isn’t going to be a big draw.
11I just watch the highlights on Colbert, The Daily Show, or NSNBC anyway.
12Whoops – MSNBC.
13Shark Week is tamer and not as funny.
14@ Corinne #14- both of those and a lot more educational.
15“Im taking my ball and I’m going home and I’m NOT going to play with you anymore!” said the obnoxious kid nobody was going to miss.
16Personally, I can think of no better scenario for the Democrats than to have Rush Limbaugh ask questions of the Republican nominees. Rush will push them so far to the right that they’ll think the John Birch Society is left-of-center.
17CNN and NBC can sell ads to go with their Hillary biography. To continue their financial advantage, they may do a biography of Newt.
FOX is going to be stuck with no commercials, a clown bus, and bloviating hosts who will make it all about themselves. The nominee, whichever bad choice is selected, will end up in a real debate with Hillary.
18The thought that Hillary will end up in a debate with one of these clowns is just delicious. The only drawback I can see is The racket caused by Bill rolling on the floor laughing.
19They might as well give the “exclusive” to Faux News.
The only people who will watch the station anyway, would be Repubs.
20TexasEllen says:@ August 16, 2013 at 11:01 pm is right on the mark. FauxNews will be the sole-source for the Republican debates and the moderators will be the ‘presenters’ (not journalists) of that Rupert Murdoch owned network. The script has already been written for this GOP infomercial.
21Do normal people actually watch these debates? The quality of political candidates has diminished from the right so bad,it is almost abusive to allow these idiots a forum to prove they are idiots. Many Dems aren’t much better. We need statesmen and women, preferably more level-headed, progressive women. Someone that can actually balance a checkbook and do several other important jobs at the same time. Wendy Davis for Mistress of the Universe!
22Yes, it is all ridiculous but remember, they haVe bags of money and one tiny little comment out of context can circle the earth in seconds. Did Koch bros. ever end up buying those eight newspapers?
23from a Udall campaign request for funds:
24You may have heard about the Koch brothers’ “secret” conference near Albuquerque last week. The one where they rented out an entire hotel and filled it with Washington political operatives, Tea Party pundits, and other Koch brothers’ corporate pals.
and no, lots of conservative Democrats also watch Faux News. They say it is because it’s conservative. I am serious.
25While I’m running my mouth I’ll share Rachel Maddow with you, which may help you understand something you’ve been scratching your head over.

So….
27Who cares?
It’s a wonderful idea.
I am a political junkie, so I usually watch part of most debates anyway… however.. last year, I couldn’t even stand to watch those assclowns and gasbags. I kept waiting for the circus organ music to start playing, then my former Republican husband would insist on changing the channels because his alcohol consumption and blood pressure were spiking. In my opinion, CNN and NBC are the winners of this round.
Good maddowblog article, Marge.
28So? Let the Democrats decree that they will not debate in any Fox owned or affiliated medium and will deny rebroadcast rights to the same.
29@Miss Prissybritches: It’s none of my business, actually, but is your husband a former Republican, a former Husband, or both/neither. Curious (nosy) minds want to know.
30Maybe Republican politico advisors finally have caught on that the more the American public sees of their candidate, the less they like him. Every time Mitt appeared in public, his ratings went down.
Laying low is their only option, so they are looking for an excuse not to debate.
31I think it’s time to make a run up to Abilene.
32They’re happiest when they’re preaching to the choir — no one asks embarrassing questions.
33So if voter suppression doesn’t work, try viewer suppression?
