Oh, So That’s How They Get Rich
David Dewhurst, Lt. Governor of Texas who gained famed for cheating on the timesheets during the Wendy Davis filibuster and lost the GOP senatorial primary to Ted Cruz, is getting even more bad press.
His failed campaign for senator still owe $1 million in debt to vendors, lawyers, and consultants.
Dewhurst is blaming it on his campaign manager —
In a written statement, Dewhurst spokesman Travis Considine pointed to the alleged embezzlement by former campaign manager Kenneth “Buddy” Barfield. Lawyers for Dewhurst’s state and federal campaign committees have accused Barfield of stealing as much as $2 million from both his state and federal campaign coffers.
Having learned and served in Texas government, Dewhurst thought this level of inefficiency, failure, and finger pointing made him highly qualified for national office as a Republican.
He’s probably right you know.
Thanks to Kyle for the heads up.
It’s amazing to me that conservatives go on and on about personal responsibility. Yet when things go wrong, it’s always somebody else’s fault.
And maybe it is that manager’s fault. But then conservatives prattle on about character as well. If the Dew hires a liar to run his campaign, perhaps he is not such a great judge of character.
1I thought Dewhurst was a multimillionaire….something to do with the oil biz….What really ticks me off about folks like that is that when they don’t pay their bills, it frequently hurts small businesses, who gave them a product or service, and need/deserve to be paid. If his campaign manager actually DID steal $2million… and he caused a small business to get stiffed, or some person who was absolutely dependent on getting paid for the product or service, then they both a huge jerks. I have a friend who owned a print shop, who got stiffed by a campaign. Stuff like that irks the daylights out of me. That’s why television and radio stations collect funds upfront from campaigns, before running the ads.
2Well, ain’t this one a gutbuster.
“The steps we took were on David’s word that we would be paid. That wasn’t some Buddy Barfield promise. That was David. It was based on David’s honor.”
That was his first mistake. He thought David Dewhurst was honorable.
“I’m working for David Dewhurst because I personally like him. He has integrity,” Gravatt said. “I’ve been told that this will be made right and I’ll be made whole, and I’m still hopeful that that will be the case.”
Really? Not paying your vendor for over a year is integrity? No. More like theft.
“Roe, who owns the direct mail company in Missouri, said even though it’s been a year, he remains optimistic that Dewhurst, who spent most of his life in the business world, will step in and settle the debts.
“I continue to be hopeful that this will be resolved,” he said.”
Yep, a whole year later, still waiting to be paid, and he’s still hopeful.
Good Grief, why do people defend such behavior?
Oh, right. A lack of integrity.
Birds of a feather and all that…
3I have a feeling that Dan Patrick may beat Dewhurst in the GOP primary. Patrick is a racist idiot but that may be the key to beating Dewhurst. Some vendors will be hesitant about working for Dewhurst this time and that may remove one of Dewhurst’s major advantages over Patrick
4Miss Prissybritches is correct. TV stations learned a long time ago to get the money up front. I worked for a Texas TV station from 1958 through 1965, and we always got the money up front, either cash or a cashier’s check, which the bookkeeper would run to the bank to cash before any advertising was run.
5GOP: the party of personal f***ing responsibility…
